What is your engagement ring like?

I had an aunt whose wedding ring my dad made out of an old silver coin that he drilled the center and tapped the edges with a spoon until it curled over, sanded and buffed it down. Some of my family were/are poor.

Thanks! The Hope Diamond is a blue diamond, so I'm sure you've heard of them and just forgot. ;) And, of course, J.Lo had that famous pink diamond. They come in lots of colors, they're just a lot rarer than colorless.
Ha, you know I've always heard of the Hope Diamond but I've never actually seen it. Well, until now with the help of google.

My grandma's original wedding band was made from a coin.

I was engaged a couple of times lol.

My first ring was a diamond that was heart shaped, that was my favorite.

Next was Marquis shaped diamond.

I have a rose gold engagement ring with an emerald cut diamond. The setting is very organic, looking like tree roots connecting to the diamond. It fits next to my wedding ring which is white gold.

ETA: A friend designed and made our rings. She bought the loose diamond and created the ring around it. My DH's wedding band matches mine.

Thank you. :-)

Yep, the science behind the stones they can grow in a lab now is way cool, IMO.

That's a shame about your tourmaline. They're beautiful stones. I have a ring passed down from my grandmother that I think is a pink tourmaline. It's 80 years old, I'll have to be mindful to be more careful with it.
Shouldn't be a problem if you're keeping it "for special". I literally never took mine off. It had a pretty big surface area and took a lot of physical contact, which when combined with a lot of exposure to water, soap and god-knows-what, caused the edges of the facets to round off. They are a very pretty stone though, if you like pink. Rosy - much less bubble-gummy than a pink sapphire.

Shucks, I just gotta ask - did you keep it? ;)

I kept them both lol

I always forget I was engaged at one time before I met my husband. It was one of those 80s wrap rings. The engagement ring part was kind of S shaped with the bigger diamond at the top of the "S" and a smaller one at the base. The band wrapped around the bigger part and narrowed in at the base. My ex refused to take it back when we split. Another boyfriend stole it and sold it to bring some girl here. Yeah, my life was filled with winners before DH. :rotfl:

OMG, this reminds me of my now exdh
So... Apparently he broke up with his gf and stole a watch that he had given her and Gabe it to me for my B-Day. I didn't know that until years later(we were no longer together)and she told me that he was seeing her while I was in hospital after I had dd and told me what my baby's car seat looked like and where he got it from.

I got engaged about a month ago and when I went looking at rings I found myself looking at gemstones instead of diamonds. I ended up choosing an emerald cut Tanzanite center stone with diamonds around it and down the band. I wanted something different... it's my 2nd marriage and I already did the diamond solitaire. They did tell me that more and more people are going for colored stones. I was wondering what some of you folks have.
A good friend of mine got a square sapphire set low in either White Gold or platinum.... no Diamonds....

I love hearing about everyone's rings! I have been trying to figure out how to post a picture but I am technically challenged.

I did get the insurance on my ring- I absolutely fell in love with it the moment I saw it. I don't work out side the home, nor am I "outdoorsy" unless you consider dining al fresco as outdoorsy... LOL But I do try to remember to take it off when I do housework etc.

Mine is round diamond with 2 smaller square diamonds on each side set in yellow gold. We celebrated 25 years last month and I got an anniversary band to wear with it. I've thought about having the yellow gold dipped since it's not in style anymore but now I feel it's a sign of our longevity.

My DH picked my ring. I always had wanted a solitaire amethyst (or even black onyx!)but what he got me was something I really grew to love.

My ring is square shaped setting that is like a grid of little white diamonds instead of just one, and has some running down the sides. I am terrible about remember to take my rings off though, but my engagement and wedding band are both white gold (and they are not a set, so a little mismatched, but I still like them).

Mine is a diamond, but the band has an inner band that's rose gold. I love it because it's like a secret inner ring. <3

I have a simple, small round solitaire. Eventually we are going to have my Omi's ring reset and turn that into my new engagement ring. I haven't decided how I would like to design that yet!
