What is your Disney shameful secret?

I get what you're saying but 4* and 5* hotels get bad reviews too. I'm staying at the New York Palace in April (4.5*) and that has a fair few bad reviews. I personally wouldn't write somewhere off until I'd stayed there myself (unless it got horrific reviews, obviously!).

I like nice hotels too and I'm generally a very fussy person but I enjoyed my time at Pop in 2008. It was very clean with lovely grounds and a great shop/food court. I'm not saying I'd necessarily stay there again, especially after staying at CSR last year and SSR this year, but I'd still recommend it. Besides, all the values are different, some are better than others.

Would you ever stay offsite?
Yeah, I would consider a Villa if we have a lot of kids, but would sooner book a DVC 2 bedroom.

I would also consider a couple of nights at Portofino Bay or somewhere to break a trip up. As it stands at the minutes though we haven't seen all that WDW has to offer so are happy to spend 99% of our time on site.

I don't have anything against the values I just don't want to stay at them, same as SSR, we don't like it's location, so won't stay there, but we do fancy CSR one year.

If I have to compromise on my holiday then I'll wait and save extra until I don't, I'd rather wait a few months and have what I want than go sooner and risk being disappointed with what I've chosen.

Same with DLRP, I could have gone and stayed in the Santa Fe or Cheyenne about 7 times over for what I spent on our last two trips, but we loved every single sencond of our DLH stay and wouldn't have rather had 5 trips for the same price.

Why the world is suck an interesting place, iof everyone thought like me then there'd be no room in the Floridian/DLH when I wanted to stay there. Or if I wanted to stay at Pop or SSR then someone else wouldn't.

I find it funny thought that people can say "Oh I'd never stay at the Floridian" and people just agree, but as soon as someone says they'd never stay at a Value they have to explain themselves...weird right?

We've never stayed in a moderate or value - but that's because when we first went to WDW, we were a family of 5 so needed the bigger rooms only originally available at the deluxes...

HOWEVER, I love the pics I've seen of Pop (awesome theming :thumbsup2) and totally intend to stay there when I take my grandkids for the first time... If I EVER get any grandkids, that is!!!

See, I would never consider a villa. I know that they are probably "better value" but I prefer staying onsite.

I don't really understand this. From looking at your signature, you stayed at SL before you stayed at DLH, which doesn't cost a great deal more than the Santa Fe or Cheyenne. For the record, I wouldn't stay at the Santa Fe either!

I didn't personally comment on the Grand Floridian as I haven't formed an opinion on it yet. You didn't need to explain yourself, I just asked you a question and you answered it. :)

I'm obviously a little defensive over values- well, Pop. As I said, I stayed there on my first ever visit to WDW, so I'm always going to have a soft spot for it, even if I never stay there again. :goodvibes

Yeah, I'm the same really, I love onsite (not tried off except when I was 7) but if we end up having 5 kids then maybe we will try a villa one year, nothing to lose. I would sooner get DVC but that is very pricey for the big villas.

Lol, well SL was our first Disney trip, and my first adult one. It was peak season (fireworks) and I upgraded our room (fat lot of good that did me, I paid more for that room than I did the DLH and had a rubbish view and was miles from the lobby) it taught us to pay for what we want though, why we went to the DLH the time after.

No, I know you didn't, just I've noticed it loads of times on the boards, I think it is because more people stay at the values and therefore get protective over their holidays, everyone feels personal when people don't agree with their choices on anything in life.

Haha, I'm the same with AKL! I want to stay there for the whole two weeks of our wedding (well except my wedding day and night as I have to be in the Floridian as that's how I dream it, coming down those big stairs in my princess dress and walking through the lobby and out into our lovely car. :)

But We're forcing ourselves to try somewhere else!! I wodner if it'll change our minds?

Five kids? Rather you than me! :rotfl: I agree though, a villa makes much more sense in that situation.

You paid more for SL than the DLH? That sucks. You live and learn though! My friend and I paid a fortune for NPB and Pop (our first adult trips too). Now I'm much more clued up! :thumbsup2

You're probably right there. Values are constantly defended because they're the most viable option for a lot of people, especially those with kids.

That sounds lovely. :goodvibes The GF is such a classic-looking hotel, I think it's the ideal choice for your wedding day/night. Your pics will be fab!

I expect you'll grow to love other places too, but AKL will always have a special place in your heart.

On our 1st trip to WDW we never made any ADR's but still ate where we wanted
I have never tried a dole whip.
I cant see the fuss with crystal palace-the theme is so wrong for the characters
I cant see what all the fuss is about re TSM

*ducks for cover* :rotfl:

Oooh Nicola, i can see what you're saying about the theming of Crystal palace for those characters, however....TSM was sooo much fun, i didnt get this mad hype before i went on it and i just fell in love with it. i do wish the hype would die down though so i could ride it more than once on my Studios day:laughing:

Oooh, now see I totally understand the TSM hype we love love LOVE it.

The one we don't get is Soarin' - don't get me wrong, it's amazing! But not worth the waits it gets. We walked on, and got FPs (which we still have! never re-rode).

But for us TSM was worth the rope drop scramble and the 3 times we waited 50 minutes for it at park closing.

We love it!!!

I was so confused after my first time on Soarin'. I felt like a Disney failure for not liking it very much! The dangling feet simply got in the way and detracted from the experience. I decided to try it again last year and I LOVED it, because I was on the front row. It really did make a huge difference. I won't bother riding on another row next time, I'll hold out for the front.

Loving this thread......

ok here we go ;)

I have only ever made one ADR and honestly can't understand the hype about Disney restaurants, nice food yes but expensive!!!! Only for a special occasion for us!

In TSM I got so competitive that I skipped the practice part to ensure that my "string pulling action" was up to scratch! :lmao:

I love staying in a Villa, I wouldn't want to be onsite all the time!

I hate Disney transportation, including buses, monorails and boats.

I have never been to a rope drop.

I always cry at the start of Wishes. and also when DD meets her favourite characters I am a wreck!

Yeah we think maybe that was our trouble, we were in the 3rd row. We did mean to go back and and wait for the first, but were SO tired when we walked back through future world that we just wanted to get on the bus.

I have thought of another couple whilst reading everyone elses.

(This is great - just goes to show how different everyone is :thumbsup2)

We have never stayed in a Disney hotel and probably never will. We love villa holidays far too much to go back to a hotel.
We had been to MK about 10 times before we realised that Jungle Cruise existed. I have no idea how that happened - we just never saw it.

Here are a few more:

I have never wanted to be a disney princess (too helpless for me :lmao:)

I can't stand the queue for Testrack (too noisy) and will only fastpass it

I have always wanted to stay in the Contemporary in a tower room overlooking Magic Kingdom :thumbsup2

To be fair on you, it is sort of hidden away!

Yes it is isn't it ;). Thank you for your support. :thumbsup2

This one is a bit of a confession. When we went in February last year we got our APs for the first time. After a couple of days we went into the Disney shop at DTD and were told that AP holders were being given a free gift a day, each time they presented their APs at guest relations.
We went and got ours - which was a lanyard with 2 free pins attached. As we had 2 APs we got 4 pins each day. Only I never restricted myself to one visit per day I'm ashamed to say. :rolleyes1
It became a bit of a challenge as to how many I could get a day - even resorting to sending the kids up, once in their jackets and once without hoping that they wouldn't be noticed. We were even stopping off on the way home from the parks to get some - it all got to be a bit of an obsession. Needless to say I ended up saving a lot of $$s as I was saving about $6 for each pin I got free - and I got a few. I am very very sorry :guilty:

- I'd also rather not go than stay in a value (!) Ditto staying off-site or in a villa.

- I hate the WDW buses: WDW is such a wonderful, magical place, and those nasty buses really kill the magic!

- I always think "Is that it?" at the end of POTC - the DLRP version is soooo much better! Ditto BTMR and Space Mountain

- Turkey legs: huh? Why do people PAY to consume those disgusting things?! Just looking at them makes me feel ill!

- I don't "get" AKL

- We have also never been to a "rope-drop" and have no intention of doing so!

- I could ride the monorail around the Seven Seas Lagoon all day :cloud9:

No problem!

:scared1: Right... GET OUT!

I agree with this. Even the faux Johnny Depp won't sway me! :rotfl:

I totally agree about POTC!! We were like "really? this is the end?!" when we came to a stop. I couldn't figure out why there was a CM there. :rotfl:

Pegasus - you are very lucky you didn't admit on the CB! That's worse than sharing 1 refillable mug for a trip ;) ! Well done though!

I LOVE WDW busses like LOVE them. I even cried at the announcement man one day! That IS shameful!

The reason i wouldn't want to stay at the Grand Floridian is because the rooms remind me of my Nans bedroom, show me the way to The Poly and i would be on Cloud 9! :cloud9: but everyone is different.

The POTC at DLP is so much better than the WDW one!

I'm addicted to those Mickey Lollipops that they sell in bunches mmmm :thumbsup2

Last time we stayed at Pop i had an Ambulance called out for me because i saw a rash on my body and started having a Panic Attack i felt so silly! :lmao: it was heat rash :rotfl2:but they were so nice to me :goodvibes

Last time we went we got a taxi everywhere never used the buses, because we had brought so much spending money we had too much so wasted it on taxis :rotfl2:
