My kids were at a year round school until we were redistricted. I loved the year round schedule, they started mid-july, went to school for 9 weeks, then had 2 weeks off (one week was used for remedial instruction if needed) 9more weeks, then 3 off for Christmas. It was great, 6 weeks off for summer vacation which was enough to relax, go to camp...., but not get bored and forget everything they had learned. I also loved being able to go to Disney at off times, end Sep/early Oct and Mid Dec before the Christmas crowds.

That sounds like a great schedule! I wish we would go to year round, but I don't see it happening.

We start the last week of Aug. and finish the second week of June, with a week at Christmas, Feb., and April, and a few long weekends in between. Summers are very hard for working parents. The cost of summer camp and the short hours are driving me crazy! It would be nicer to spread out the time off, and have more flexibility for those trips to Disney!:thumbsup2

In New York, the school year starts right after labor day and ends the very end of June, this year it was June 27th.

Us too, also in New York State. I like this schedule.

I would love to get rid of the February break, though! It seems like we JUST get back from Christmas, and we're getting back into our routine, and we have another week off. It's annoying and VERY unneccesary.

Sounds just like us. We start August 22 end June 2. 3 days off at Thansgiving, a week around Easter week between Christmas and New Year's Day with a couple of extra days thrown in for the other holidays and teacher inservice days.

Us too- start 8/20...ends 6/5...week at Easter (spring break), 2 days at Tgiving, but we get 2 weeks at Christmas (week before and week after) and then some teacher work days or "flex" days which are days that may be missed in the event of a hurricane (but if they are used then we lose some teacher work days to make up for it)

Our schools start Aug. 27th and end June 11 (I think that is the date).

I taught in year round schools for 16 years. I love, love, love year round schedules!

I LOVE having the chance to go on vacation when the rest of the world isn't on vacation and when prices are lower.

We moved to NC and in our district our kids will be in traditional calendar schools and I will be teaching in a traditional calendar school.

I would LOVE to return to year round.

I love our schedule. There are so many breaks during the school year, that I don't have to worry about pulling my son out of school for vacations.:dance3:Our breaks cover all of WDW's seasons. (value, peak, holiday and regular)

I like the breaks too, but don't you find it to be a pain in the neck to try to travel during those breaks? It seems like all of the breaks are around holidays when the whole rest of the world is trying to get away...I would much rather have a random few weeks off during a non-holiday time. That 9 weeks on/2 weeks off thing sounds good to me!

Just for laughs, I checked airfare from Newark to Orlando in the fall.
10/31 - 11/6, lots of flight options for $118-$148
The following week - 11/7 - 11/13 (a.k.a. Jersey Week) - Cheapest was $303.

We start Aug. 8th and go until May 23rd. We could get out as early as May 16th if we don't use those last 5 snow days.
We have Friday and Monday off for Labor Day and another Friday and Monday in October. We get Wed.-Fri. for Thanksgiving and two weeks + one day for Christmas going back on Jan. 7th. (We're taking a Disney trip after Christmas). We have MLK jr, and Presidents' day and Friday-Monday for Easter - no week long Spring Break. I don't really mind that though, because once we get to that point school is almost over.
DH and I both work in the school system and we have two kids. Our vacations have to work around our schedule and so far it has worked very well.

I would love to get rid of the February break, though! It seems like we JUST get back from Christmas, and we're getting back into our routine, and we have another week off. It's annoying and VERY unneccesary.

I totally agree with this! I wish we would keep going in February and then get out a week earlier in June instead.
