I was just curious to see how many public schools have changed to the "year round" schedule with maybe a month off during summer and several 1-2 week long breaks throughout the year? Our kids are too young for school yet, but I would love it if our district changed to a year round schedule.

And for those of you parents who do have children in public schools going "year round", how do you like it?

Our kids (GA) start Aug.6
One week off for T-Giving Nov.19-23
Dec.19-Jan.2 Christmas
Winter Break-Feb.18-22
Spring Break- April 7-11
Last Day- May 23

we start Thursday go until Late Sept. off 3 weeks then go back for 9 off for Christmas back for 9 off for 3 in spring back for 9 then last dy is around june1

I voted OTHER as well...
We don't start until after Labor Day - usually the Tues or Wed of that week.
In Sept/Oct there are usually about 3-4 days off for Yom Kippour/Rosh Hashanah (forgive me if I've spelled these wrong I don't have a calendar in front of me)
2 Days off for "Teachers convention" ("Jersey Week") in Nov
2 Days off for Thanskgiving
Off the week between Christmas and New Years
Off a random week in February (usually Pres Day week)
Off a week +/- 2 days for Spring Break in March or April depending on when Easter/Passover fall
Add in a few more random holidays, and we're not done until LATE LATE LATE June - usually around the 25-26th. It's ridiculous.
I'd much rather skip some of the random days off during the year, skip the Frbruary break completely and be done earlier.

I voted other. It always starts the Weds after labor day and ends the first Thursday in June. This coming year will be Sept 5- June 5

3 days off at Thanksgiving
2 1/2 weeks off for Christmas/New Years
Week each in February and April

Throw in a couple of in-service days and 2 conference days. Although they're not planned, snow days happen occasionally, some years more than others.

I voted for late Aug thru mid June, but probably should have said other. We start (SC) Aug 21 and are done 1st week of June. Usually 2 days off at Thanksgiving, week around Easter, week between Christmas and New Year's, and a day here and there for other state/federal holidays and teacher's in-service days.

We go from August 7th to May 23rd. We get 2 days in October, 1 week at Thanksgiving, 2 weeks at Christmas, 1 week Sping Break, and 1 day for Easter.

Tuesday after Labour Day until the end of June. Holiday in October (Thanksgiving), 2 weeks at Christmas, 1 week in March, Good Friday/Easter Monday, and 1 day in May (Victoria Day). 194 days in all.

We are pretty close to this. Start the same time. No Jewish holidays off, but off one day for Columbus Day. NJEA convention 2 days, Thanksgiving 2 days, Christmas/New Years week, Fri. & Mon Presidents Weekend, Good Friday through the week after Easter off and Memorial day. We also have two teacher inservice days where the kids are off, but I am not. It is usually one in Oct and one in March, but this year both are in October, but not the same week of Columbus Day. We get out around June 14th.

My school in MD is late Aug through mid June, thank goodness not year round.

Sounds just like us. We start August 22 end June 2. 3 days off at Thansgiving, a week around Easter week between Christmas and New Year's Day with a couple of extra days thrown in for the other holidays and teacher inservice days.

My kids were at a year round school until we were redistricted. I loved the year round schedule, they started mid-july, went to school for 9 weeks, then had 2 weeks off (one week was used for remedial instruction if needed) 9more weeks, then 3 off for Christmas. It was great, 6 weeks off for summer vacation which was enough to relax, go to camp...., but not get bored and forget everything they had learned. I also loved being able to go to Disney at off times, end Sep/early Oct and Mid Dec before the Christmas crowds.

WOW! That sounds like Heaven:cloud9:

In New York, the school year starts right after labor day and ends the very end of June, this year it was June 27th.

I voted for other. Our school year starts early September and ends late June.:cool1:

Our schedules are pretty much the same.
Here schools are also closed on
Columbus Day
Veterens Day
Election Day
MLK Jr. Day
Memorial Day
Brooklyn/Queens Day
Good Friday

Spring break depends on when Easter/Passover

The Catholic schools have most of the same days out( except the Jewish Holidays of course). Spring break is always during Easter.

I love our schedule. There are so many breaks during the school year, that I don't have to worry about pulling my son out of school for vacations.:dance3:Our breaks cover all of WDW's seasons. (value, peak, holiday and regular)
