What is your child's favorite Christmas book?

My DS has a bunch of Christmas books, but he especially likes two, The Polar Express and Red Boots for Christmas. We are always looking for new ones to add to our collection and would love to hear what your kids love to hear or read.

DD has always enjoyed "Small One". I think there is also an animated movie about it.

I heard one the other night at library night that Sarah claims is her new all time favorite. It was the story of how the candy cane candy came to be. Can't for the life of me remember the title right now though. It was about a grandfather who wanted to make a special Christmas treat for his granddaughter and what the colors and shape represent. A wonderful little story.

How the Grinch Stole Christmas!
A close second would be The Night Before Christmas, illustrated by Jan Brett. The beautiful artwork brings new life to the old classic.
Another really cute one is Mr. Willowby's Christmas Tree.
If you are looking for something a little less whimsical, A New Coat for Anna is really good. It is a story about a little girl in post-WWII Europe. Beautiful artwork here, as well.
I'll keep thinking. I have a ton of children's books!

Ahhhhhh the traditional "Twas The Night Before Christmas".....

gives me shivers to think about it. We start reading it oh...about this weekend I guess.

Polar Express just gives me chills every time I read it. Great story! We also love 'Twas the Night Before Christmas and read that every Christmas Eve as a tradition kind of thing.

The newest favorite in our house (last 2 years or so) is Auntie Claus . Not a real classic but when we were in NY in 1999 one of the store windows on 5th avenue was decorated in the theme of Auntie Claus so of course we had to get the book and find out what it was all about. Now the kids really like to hear the story several times each year. I think it reminds them of our trip too.

Tell me about "red boots for Christmas" I'm always looking for new ones. Also, if anyone knows the name of that candy cane book it sounds pretty good too.

The first 2 were always brought home to me by my dad every yearwhen he would take the Christmas books out of storage at the library. He was the Bookmobile librarian here in Quincy!

As a matter of fact when he was getting ready to retire I took with me , the Bookie's copy of the Littlest Angel!!

My children LOVE the "Polar Express" & "Small One".
As a child I loved a Big Golden book called "Little Lost Angel". My copy had gotten pretty ragged over the years and I was lucky enough to track one down on ebay last year.

If it is the candy cane story I am thinking of it is called "The Ledgend of the Candy Cane", by Lori Walburg Vandenbosch.

Sonya, we were in NYC for the 1999 holidays and saw the Auntie Claus window, it was in Saks Fifth Avenue.

Red Boots for Christmas is written by Sharolyn Sander, it has a really good message.

I just read a new story to DS before school this morning that is in the December issue of Ladies Home Journal, it is called "The Light of Christmas" by Richard Paul Evans. It also is a good story, it is copyrite 2002, so now I am on a search to find that one. I will have to check amazon.com to see if they have it.

We too like 'Twas the Night Before Christmas", it is such a classic.
