What is your average household temperature in the winter?

I live in New England, so I know those who live in most parts of Arizona or California might have incomparable answers....But for those who live in "like regions"...

My DH & I have an ongoing battle in the winter about the heat temperature in our house. Our house is well insulated. I tend to stay on the cooler side, ranging 64-68 in the day & in the night. My DH thinks it should be on 70 all the time. When my kids were newborn, this made sense to me, but not now that they are older. We also all tend to enjoy sleeping with layered blankets in the winter.

I also acknowledge that I am in my 40's, so the big M could hit me at any time & maybe that is attributing to my wanting a lower temp in the winter. I also grew up in a home that always had the temp on lower at night in the winter and we layered up and were comfortable.

Just wondering what the norm is with heating in regions that are similar to mine in weather & temp.

Thanks!

I'm in northern Ohio & I've been keeping mine at 64 all winter. I turn it up to 68 when the kids are getting ready for school then it goes back down.

66 and drops down when we're sleeping and out of the house

The foothills of the Canadian Rockies. Winter here is long and harsh and I get so sick of being cold. DH works at home and likes the thermostat at 20.5C (about 68F) during the day. When I get home, especially after a day when I'm outside a lot I need it warmer - 22C (72F).

68 during the day when I'm working. 71 at night and when I'm sleeping.

I too can't believe how cold people keep their homes- live just north of Toronto - and I have to have it around 75 degrees. My dh tries to lower it at night but 70 is the lowest I can stand. It's probably one of the reasons I love Florida so much - I love the heat!!!!!:flower1:

I live in the Buffalo/Niagara Falls area.
Ours is kept at 72 year round.
The thermostat is in the living room so unfortunately in the winter the family room ends up a bit chilly and in the summer the upstairs ends up a bit too warm.

OMG I would die. I get sweaty and uncomfortable when it's set on 70. :sunny:

Our thermostat automatically adjusts to 72* for daytime - 66* at night. Just the way I like it - love to sleep under a light down coverlet.
Hate breathing too warm air at night.

Age makes a difference... living with seniors, they need the extra warmth to be comfortable around the house.

OMG you are not kidding- I have my 89 year old mother with me and every time I turn around she is pushing the heat up to 72- its brutal- I don't mind when I am not home but I can't stand it that warm when I am home- I tend to stay in a room with the window open to cool it down! At night I move it down to 66 because I can not sleep in a house that is 70 degrees! In the summer I do the opposite- I keep the house very cold and in her room I open her windows and let the heat in!

New Hampshire here! 66 when away or sleeping and 68 when home and awake. I have a wi-fi thermostat so I get an email when DW turns the thermostat past up past 69 or lower than 70 in the summer when the a/c is on. I will then turn it back down for her.:crutches:
