What is your Ancestry?

Mom's side - Greek, Cherokee Indian and French?
Dad's side - Blackfoot Indian and Scottish

All that makes me one dark complected, redheaded tyrant! ;)

My father was 100 percent Italian and my mother was half Italian, a quarter French, and a quarter Irish. So I guess that makes me 3/4 Italian, 1/8 French and 1/8 Irish. People are always shocked when I tell them my heritage, I don't look the slightest bit Italian, French or Irish and I'm usually mistaken for Swedish, German or Dutch. But I have cousins on both sides who have researched our lineage, and there doesn't appear to be any Swedish, German or Dutch ancestors in the chain.

My mom's side is Irish and German...the Germans had lived in St. Louis since the early 1800s (they can be traced back to Switzerland and Germany in the 1500s), and my great-great-great grandmother, Ellen Ryan, married into their family.

My dad's family is nearly all German and came into this country in the 1700s, settling in PA and IN. Unfortunately, we can't trace them in Europe because they created a new surname for themselves on the boat over (and picked a really goofy one, frankly....sigh), so that's all we know.

My family is mostly French by way of Canada (Nova Scotia also)

I have my lineage traced back to the first Franch settler in Nova Scotia. There was a large displacement of the French in Nova Scotia (The Acadiens) in the 1700's, many of whom settled in Lousianna, giving birth to Cajun culture. My immediate family line all resettled in Nova Scotia, but I know I have lots and lots of Cajun Cousins in Lousiana!

I've also got some Irish and Native American (Mic Mac) ancestry too.

My parents immigrated from Austria (not Australia, as some people commonly misunderstand). My dad is 100% Austrian and my mom is 100% German.

DH's paternal grandparents both came to the U.S. from Italy (Sicily, to be precise) when they were kids. DH's maternal grandmother was Polish, born in the U.S. His paternal grandfather was an orphan, but was apparently a bit of everything...English, Irish, Scottish and I think a few others.

Both of my mom's parents are mostly Scottish and Cherokee. More than likely considering the area and the time I can trace back our Cherokee ancestors, there is more than likely some African blood (by way of runaway slaves that hid in Appalachian mountains with the Cherokee)
On dad's side it's Welsh,English, Cherokee and Scottish.

DH's dad is 1/2 Italian, can't remember what his paternal-grandmother's line is now
On his mom's side is German, French (by way of Canada) and a little native American. His brother keeps saying Cherokee, but we doubt it considering the part of the country (great lakes area)

I'm Irish, Italian, English, German, and Scottish -- but I'm constantly mistaken for Latina :confused3 so who knows what else is in there...

My dad's side is simple: his mom was born in Lebanon, came here as a young child, in 1907 or so. His dad was born here in PR of Spanish parents (we've been to the towns they came from in Galicia and Asturias). We still have family in Lebanon.

My mom is a little more complicated. Her dad's father was Italian, his mother was Dominican and he was born in PR. Her mother's mother was criolla (mixed Spanish, African & native) and her father was Spanish.

That makes me... well, a little of this, a little of that. When I lived in the US I always got "But you don't look Puerto Rican," (said in amazement) :confused3 which irked me to no end, because we come in every color under the rainbow. I look more like my dad's side of the family, and in Spain people take me for Arab, so go figure! :rotfl:

I'm Scotch, Irish, English, Dutch and German. My dad's side of the family has done extensive research into their background and we are descended from royalty way, way back when. What happened?

My husband is descended from the French Huegonots (sp?) on his mother's side. I can't remember what his father's side is.

My maternal grandma was born in Italy, came here when she was a little girl, she was 100% Italian.
My maternal grandfather was a bit English and (mostly)Scottish, but he came to America from Brazil when he was young-he was born there because his father was an engineer of some sort, building bridges or railroads or something.

My paternal grandfather was born here but his parents were born in Holland, so he was 100% Dutch.
My paternal grandmother was born here, but her father was born in Holland, her mother was born in Scotland.

So whats that? 1/4 Italian, 1/4 plus a smidge Scottish, a smidge English and the rest Dutch.

...and everyone thinks I'm Irish. LOL Must be the freckles.;)

DH is 50% Italian from his father's side and not sure about his mom's-her parents came here from Canada, not sure where they were from before that-I think they were English and Scottish.
Their last names were Miller and Williams, that's English, I think?

I'm mostly Polish and German with a bit of English and French thrown in. My dh is mostly Norwegian and English with a bit of Irish and German thrown in. We claim our kids are western European mutts.

I'm 3/8 Irish, 1/8 Puertoriquena, then the other half is mixed Hungarian, Czech, Serbian - Transylvanian area of Central Europe. That's my dad's side, and he gets mistaken for all sorts of nationalities because of it. My mom's done tons of geneology research so I can get amazingly detailed, but I usually just go with white on the survey cards, and call myself a mutt in general. ;)

My cousin traced our roots back to the 1300's and we are 11th cousins to Prince Charles supposedly, and our great-great-great (maybe more) uncle donated land to the railroad and Durham NC was named for him. Pretty cool I think.:thumbsup2

On my Mom's side I am Polish and Ukranian, Grandpa is ukranian, grandma is polish. Dad's side I am English, Scottish, German, French, Scandanavian(sp) and Native American. Part of my dad's father's family has been here in the US since the 1600's. Both side of my mom's family came over here in the late 1800's and early 1900's. :upsidedow

Half Italian, half French...married to a 100% Irishman. I always tease him and say that we like that blonde hair and blue eyes and they like the dark hair and dark eyes..

On my father's side: Mostly German with Dutch, English, and a touch of Irish.

On my Mother's side: Scottish, Swedish, and a touch of French.

I'm a total mutt. Scotch, Irish, Native American (Blackfoot and Cherokee), German and English. DH is mostly German ancestry.
