How are you dealing with the heat?? Last week we went to the pool everyday, even got hubby to join us on Friday! He loved it
I'm setting our AC to 77 or 78 and then using floor fans....if it's still too hot I'll turn the AC to 76 or 75. We got a new system put in November so the other day I wanted to test it out. I set it to 70 to see if it would really go that low and it sure did! As a kid, we had no AC, lucky if we had a fan and I remember sleeping in just my underwear :rotfl2: that's what I tell the kids if they're too hot, they looked at me like I have two heads but they got used to it.

I have only turned the oven on when it's Friday for pizza night.

I tried setting my a/c to 78 but it was just too hot and humid in the house. At 76 everyone is comfortable. We have an adjustable thermostat, so when we leave for the day the temp goes up until we return.

Our electric rates are too high -- it's set on 80 degrees unless we have a house full of company.

81 during the day and 78 at night and we live in Texas where it is in the upper 90s for highs. Electric here is expensive, so unless we want a bill of several hundred dollars a month, we have to keep it high. Although, it doesn't ever feel too hot in here either(but we do keep ceiling fans on as well).

Our house is made of stone- we keep it at 74 or 73 and I don't think the AC kicks on too much. Our bill has never been over 200/month and was $120 this month, so I can live with that!

Mine's at 78-80 most of the time. Upstairs is still unbearably hot, but we don't go up there much during the day and at night I turn on a window a/c for the kids up there so I don't have to turn down the house a/c. I'm sure my electric bill is going to be high though, I think my a/c has been running non-stop to keep the house cool, it hit 101 here in NC today.

I also have been using ceiling fans and trying to avoid using the oven as much as possible, although DH doesn't cooperate on his days off. I've also been closing the door to my laundry room when I use the dryer and only running the dishwasher at night after the sun goes down. And all of my blinds are always closed against the sun.

ours pretty much stays at 74 all day. I work from home so there isn't a time that there is no one home (for the most part anyway). Our house is pretty well insulated and we had to buy a new heat pump 3 years ago. We're on the budget electric plan and pay only $180 per month year round (Forgot to mention the house is 100% electric). Also, the house is well shaded which helps keep the house from getting too hot...

Oh wow. We keep ours much colder than everyone else! If we're here during the day we keep it at about 72-75. We set it at 75 if we're gone.

At night, dh likes to keep it at 70 but I like it better at 68 or 69. I love having a cold house to sleep in. :)

Another Texan here and we keep ours 79-80. We used to keep it at 78 and 77 to cool the house off more. But, with temps outside last summer hitting 110 multiple days in a row, our bill ended up over $400 for one month. We're trying to keep it under $300.

We have ours at 78 during the day and 81 at night. I'm at home with our son during the day so having it cooler is nicer. Our temps outside have been hitting over 90-100 for days now but it's still nice inside. And our AC bill has never been over $230. We also have an attic fan to cool the upstairs since the original owners didn't put in a 2nd AC unit.

we keep ours set at 68. We also keep the heater at 68 in the winter too.

We keep ours at 77 or 78, and turn it to 76 when we get hot. I don't like to be cold and I don't want to spend a ton on a/c. I do it to keep the house dry. It's the humidity that does us in.

Zero..

We use a fan..

Much cheaper that way. Unless there is a medical reason, age, etc, you can get thru life fine without A/C

In summer's past the AC was set at 78 for this north texas house and I was comfortable. But that isn't cutting it this year - (maybe perimenapausal - I wake up sweaty in the mornings at 78 w/ a thin sheet - more comfortable with 76 at night). 76 is bareable and 74 is preffered, but seldom indulged. Our last electric bill was $200 for our 2100 sqft brick house. I suspect we will break $300 at some point this summer since the average high for this June is 98 (normal is 90)...

68 for the A/C and at least 78 for the heat

We heat with two pellet stoves though, so the cost is much less than gas or electric--roughly $1400/year. Our electric bill is budgeted at $70/month. (Our hot water and dryer are propane, which runs about $500/year)

So--$1400 plus $500 plus $840 equals $2740 or just about $230/month all year long.
