We have been having a bad problem with harassment and vandalism for the past year (i.e. ringing door bell and running away after we're in bed, setting off firecrackers on 4th of July on our front porch and the worst - our PVC fence was kicked in twice). Well last night someone threw an egg at my son's window. While I was waiting for the police (35 minutes so they knew they wouldn't catch anyone) we saw several kids (grammar school age) out toilet papering trees WITH THEIR FATHER. What is this guy teaching his kids about respecting other people's property????:confused3

We have missed the toilet papering only because we have no trees. We have had our yard filled with political signs, our DSs car was covered with graffiti that was very graphic, and our yard covered with silly string and glitter a couple of times.

Its usually teen aged girls doing it to get our DSs attention. The graffiti was from some of his "friends" who disagree with his political views.

How old are your kids?

We've had any number of pranks/vandalism ever since my DS was old enough to get attention from girls. Any time he goes through a breakup, we can count on getting egged. His previous girlfriend was awful for that because she just wouldn't let go. There was another group of girls that liked him and they'd leave all kinds of stuff on our porch or in our yard. I'm so glad they either outgrew him or outgrew those pranks.

We were having a lot of trouble with eggs a few years ago (and paintballs believe it or not). I was furious for us but more furious for my elderly neighbor who has no way to clean it up. It all stopped when I called the local convenience store and asked them to stop selling eggs to kids late at night.

Put up one of those fake cameras and a sign. If they are grammar school aged, they might fall for it. Kicking in your fence does not sound like a funny prank. That sounds like somebodys parent needs to pay for that damage!

As for the father... what an idiot. One day he'll be bailing his kids out of jail wondering where he went wrong.

DS is 16 but I'm pretty sure it's this group of boys he used to play with who are 3-4 years younger than him. He lost interest in them about 2 years ago and I think they are holding a grudge because he doesn't want to associate with them anymore. But, of course, we have no proof.

Our fence was kicked in once (only us). I paid the guy who fixed it on Monday and it was kicked in again (along with about 5-6 other fences in the area) that Wednesday.

That is so brilliant.

agnes!

I'd definitely be hooking up a camera, real or otherwise. With a real camera, at least you'd have something to show the police to prove who is doing it.

sometimes TPing is done to friends as an initiation. Like cheerleaders and footbal players. But fireworks and eggs are not.

I would not assume the dad was involved in anything you did not directly see him doing.

I'm sure they weren't the ones who threw the egg. But his judgement is really bad.

The only thing keeping me from installing a camera is that the resolution isn't real good on them and I don't know we would be able to identify the culprits.

The first year we moved to our house, we got some major toilet papering. It was hard figuring it out since our house is on an interior lot and my two neighbors got none. Turned out it was DH's brothers with their children who were ages 3, 4, and 6 - yeah, we thought that was very strange too. They don't bother with us anymore since our different parenting styles led to many disagreements (and the tp was the tiniest issue).

In my town, you can't purchase eggs after 3pm on Halloween ! No joke !!

I have had fireworks set off in my mailbox and on my front porch and someone has whacked my mailbox with a bat. It's very upsetting. One of my neighbors has had drinking glasses, catsup bottles and eggs thrown at their car and garage door a few times.

Neither of us has kids so we think it's just kids being kids, but if I ever catch one of them....

If you do a fake camera, at least have a cable coming out the back & going into a building. Our condo assoc put up a fake camera on a metal pole by the dumpster after people leaving items like furniture.

Just a camera on a pole. No cables coming out the back of the camera. :rotfl2:

I think I can top you all off. Someone put something into my gas tank and killed the engine to our car. I know who did it but I have no way to prove it. It was going to cost us 1400$ for a new one, thankfully our insurance covered it (I love State Farm) because it was vandalism. I'll take eggs and TP over that any day.

As for the doorbell take one of those flat head tacks and tape it upside down (pin side out) to the doorbell and turn off your porch light. Trust me they will get a not so nice surprise when they ring your bell!

For the last several years, we've had vandalism issues with preteens on Halloween in our neighborhood. The local police were good about making the rounds, but couldn't really do anything unless they caught the kids in action.

Last year, our town decided to do an all-town Trunk or Treat in the middle of town. It had a good attendance by most families with children. Since no one was home to give out candy, Trunk or Treating also kept the groups of preteens from roaming our neighborhoods. There was MUCH less vandalism done last Halloween than previously.

This year, Trunk or Treating seems to be growing even larger in our town. The Fire Department is going to have a fire truck out and decorated, many citizens have eleborately-decorated trailers that they'll be bringing down and one of the churches is doing a small haunted house. It's really wonderful because with everything set close together, the little kids don't have to walk far, it's all well-lit, and there's no reason for the older kids to be roaming individual neighborhoods unescorted. A big :thumbsup2 for Trunk or Treating!

(BTW, two years ago, BIL caught a boy egging a house on Halloween and escorted him back to his home to tell the kid's parents. Turned out the boy's father had given him the eggs. :sad2: )

I am so sorry it happens to you too! We get countless acts. It has been simple things like dead animals left on th eprrcg to car windows broken and spraypainted.

This is what we did. http://www.wilife.com/

I could not be happier. So easy to install yourself in just minutes and reasonably priced.

FYI...tampering with a mail box in any way is a federal offense and law enforcement should treat it as such.
