What is with people not leaving feedback on eBay?

As a buyer I only leave feedback if the seller knocks my socks off--super fast shipment usually.

Me, too. I only leave feedback if it's really good or really bad. I've had too many "really bad" purchases and no longer use ebay very often.

I purchase on ebay, and always leave feedback. I wish more sellers would do the same.

When I sell something, I leave feedback immediately after I ship the item, so the buyer knows to expect it. If I've received payment and I mailed the item out to the buyer, then I have completed the transaction and therefore is my responsibility to leave feedback.

When I buy something, during the Paypal transaction I leave a note that reads, "Please leave feedback upon shipping and I will leave feedback upon arrival of item to complete transaction."

I've been a member since 2000 and have had about 225 transactions with 183 feedbacks. This was the way I was "raised" on eBay. I think it is a just way and I will continue to do so.

I believe the seller should leave feedback first. The seller should not wait for the buyer to leave feedback, the buyers transaction finishes last and the seller should give the buyer no reason for neutral or negative feedback. If such is left and is injust, eBay will try to work it out with buyer/seller and also that's what the retort feedback is there for.

JMHO!

I just received some books I ordered on ebay and they came with a card reminding me to leave feedback and wishing me a happy holiday. I always leave feedback anyways but it was a cute idea.

slow 2 weeks

I shipped stuff out 12 days ago and still hasnt shown up to customers, also with my company many payments from week before thanksgiving still havent posted, think usps had a brain attack???

I shipped one thing priority mail on October 27th. It didn't arrive until November 24th. Is that my fault? No. I shipped the day after payment but it sure made me look bad for a months time.

The retort feedback is usless. Most buyers look at the % of positive. The responses don't show up in the %. Ebay really needs to revamp the feedback area. A buyer can not pay for an item and still leave negative feedback. How is that good for sellers?

Boy, do you have that right. The buyers transaction finishes last..the perfect explanation to why the buyer should leave the feedback first...at the end of the sale. It's completed, IMO once the buyer gets his item. Then he leaves feedback (when his transaction finishes last), and the seller will respond to it. I have over 3500 feebacks (all but two positives, and one of those was a non payer, the other didn't like the box I sent the item in..liked the item though LOL) and I use vrane to respond to feedback. But even if I didn't, I would wait until the sale is completed, the buyer has the item and is happy.

I disagree. If the seller sent what was auctioned in the terms of the auction, the seller should conclude it's responsibility and submit feedback to the buyer.

If the buyer is going to be a jerk, there's nothing you can do about unless you write to eBay to have it investigated/reversed or retort.

You may want to look at your shipping means if items are taking nearly a month to get to the buyer.

I email the buyer the day I send it out and usually have a number (confirmation or otherwise) to offer the buyer to watch the shipment. If a week or so has gone by, I will email the buyer to see if they received the item. I can do this personalized service because I do not sell mass quanitity at one time.

I bought an item from a seller that was clearly not authentic. Instead of leaving negative feedback, I contacted recent buyers of this seller to advise them of the lack of authenticity. One buyer gave me the name of the Internet Police (gov't agency that prohibits fraudulent selling, etc). They have suspended his rights and are investigating him. Ebay is not perfect (by any means) but it does serve its means.

If you give good service, you should receive good feedback. That's good business.

I assume you are addressing me with your shipping comment. I would like your suggestions for a better shipping method than priority mail. Fed Ex is cost prohibitive and the buyers don't want to overpay for shipping. Seems like you are damned if you do, damned if you don't.
The package was tracked. Tracked all over the US before it got to the destination. You want to know what the Post office had to say? Priority mail can take as long as they deem necessary. You have to give it 30 days before they investigate unless it sent Express Mail. I don't know of many buyers that are willing to pay Express Mail on items that cost less than $30.

99% of my items get there quickly. In fact most of my feedback is raving about how fast I ship.

And by the way, Ebay does not do much about reversing Negative Feedback. Here is the page that will fill you in on the details.

From my experince they never reverse feedback once it is left.

You are correct.

The system is a user based checks and balance. If Ebay got too involved then people could hold Ebay responsible for things said in feedback.

In the past I have gotten an email from ebay reminding me to leave feedback (maybe 30 days after the auction closed) Do they still send those out? I wish ebay would give us the option of sending a feedback reminder to our customers.
For the people who only leave feedback for superior service- The more people use the feedback system the better ebay will be for everyone.
You can leave a positive with no comment.

I though that this was an option that the seller can or can not use. eBay does not just send them out. I can not find it though. I have only gotten one in my 5 years on eBay.

I haven't done much ebaying in a while but I too wait until I hear that the buyer has received the pkg and the transaction is complete. I usually mail the customer when I ship something and say let me know that you received the pkg by either leaving feedback or sending me an email. This worked fairly well.
