What is with people not leaving feedback on eBay?

I've left probably 25 feedbacks and the past week, and received 1! Give me a break people! :badpc:

Here's what I do. I include a hand written note with every item I sell. The note says, "Thank you for your Ebay purchase. Positive feedback will be left for you. The same would be appreciated upon receipt."

Almost all of my buyers leave me feedback. Presumably, the note helps remind them that its a nice thing to do.

I've found that most don't leave feedback unless they see you have left it first.

I'm finding the same thing. I bought and item and immediately upon receipt left the seller positive feedback. I have received none to date (10 days ago). I have also emailed the seller requesting they leave feedback and still nothing. Frustrating! :confused3

I always forget to do it, or say to myself that I will and just never get around to it. I only log in if I'm buying something. but I do eventually do a bulk feedback posting. I know it gets annoying, but I guess I'd rather get good feedback eventually than bad feedback! :(

Feedback is optional, just about every seller has left more fb then they've received- its just a fact of life. I don't stress about it. I usually don't leave fb until a buyer leaves one for me or emails me letting me know they got their item and are happy with it, in other words- the transaction is complete.

I usually don't sent notes or push buyers to leave fb. I have heard of sellers doing that and they get a big red negative saying "HERE'S YOUR FEEDBACK, HAPPY NOW?"

If you are a buyer then your fb doesn't really matter at all- whats the difference if you have 10 or 10,000 if all your are doing is buying stuff?

I always try and leave feedback and its true I have left more than I will ever receive.

It might not matter to you, but it matters to the sellers. I feel much more comfortable if the person bidding on my auction has a high feedback number. That means the person has been satisfactorily completing his/her transactions. If a seller has very little or no feedback, or even worse, a negative number, I can't be as sure that the person will pay once the auction ends.

Feedback benefits everyone. It is optional, but without it ebay would be a far more dangerous place to do business.

I hate when I take so much time to give feedback and they dont return it

Do you only compliment someone with the expectation that they will then compliment you? Of course not. Same with feedback. I leave it because it is the right thing to do. It lets the person know I was happy with the transaction. And it lets everyone else know that the person is reliable. So keep on leaving feedback whether you get any in return or not.

I have a few people that haven't left feedback either this week. I am hoping it is due to the holidays though and that they will leave some soon. I need my feedback since I sell and it reassures people who might buy from me.

When I sell something, I leave feedback as soon as I ship the item because I feel that the buyer has completed his/her part of the auction. When I buy something, I leave feedback when I receive the item. I suppose this wouldn't work out if the buyer lies and says I never shipped the item or that they never received it. At that point, I guess I would have to leave some kind of follow-up feedback.

I like to receive feedback because I know the item arrived and they are happy with it. I have tried the notes and emails and got around half to leave feedback. I also started waiting to leave feedback until I get feedback. I do however leave it as soon as the item arrives if I'm the buyer. I look at feedback before I ever buy anything, so I consider it important.

I was thinking the same thing. Not only did i want the feedback because it "should" be positive, I had wondered about how I shipped them ..if they came timley, if i packed ok. I had trouble findign boxes that fit these particular items so I used the envelopes with padding, wanted to know they held up alright. Seems to me that if they werent happy i would be getting negative right quick though, so i will assume they were all satisfied.

Tink~

I've almost always left feedback, but this week, I was actually thinking of not leaving feedback. I made a gift card purchase, and in the auction's description, it was noted that the item would be shipped within 3 days of payment. Auction ended on 11/14, I paid 11/15, and on 11/18, I received an email that the item was sent. I was hoping to use the gift card for black friday shopping, so I thought that was plenty of time and I should receive by 11/24 at the latest. Well, I received the gift card on 11/27, it was postmarked was 11/22, 4 days AFTER I got the email that it had shipped. I know that sometimes something might get postmarked the day after it mailed, but not 4 days! I hate to leave a neutral in case of retaliation, so I was thinking of skipping the feedback.........

I always leave feedback. If buying something as soon as I receive the item. If selling, as soon as they pay. I have received the notes that sya I'll leave you feedback after you leave it for me...but I don't care for that. If they pay in a timely manner, they have done what I asked. If they aren't happy, we'll sort that out later. I don't hold feedback hostage in return for a positive rating.

From time to time I go back and 'clean up' my ebay and leave feedback. I do not leave feedback after a buyer pays, I had a bad experience where the buyer said he did not receive when I strongly suspect he did. So now I wait and evaluate the ENTIRE transaction - this includes payment, communication and overall experience.

Give the people time to respond, perhaps they are like me and leave feedback in chunks.

I don't leave feedback as a seller until I receive feedback because the transition is not over for me until I know my customer is happy and satisfied. I do not consider this holding feedback hostage, but good business practice. As a buyer I leave feedback as soon as I receive the item so that the seller knows that I both received the package and had no problems with it. I just wish my buyers would do the same (still waiting on three feedbacks; one of which I did leave positive for already).

I used to do this until I got burned by two buyers in a months time. One said that I sent a damaged item but refused to return it for refund. (It was perfectly fine and brand new), the other left negative when they didn't even pay. Now I wait until I receive feedback before I leave any.

I do not worry too much about feedback. If they leave it then good if not well oh well. What really annoys me is when buyers do not contact you to let you know that they received the item. I always go on the assumption that they did unless I hear differently.

So for the most part, you don't leave feeback unless the person leaves it for you? I guess it is a difference in opinion of good business then. I leave it if they do a good job(paying me, providing an accuarate address, etc.) If they don't like the item, it doesn't change the fact that they did what they were required to do. I will try to make the buyer happy, but even if they disappoint me in the end, they did pay which is pretty much all I'm asking them to do. Now they may not leave it for ME until I make a situation right in their mind, but I leave it for buyers when they pay.
