What is up with Frozen?!

My DF and I loved Frozen. He even laughed at parts. We had to keep up to date on the movies since we are honeymooning in Disney in January!

We saw it last night finally and loved it. Easily the best movie Disney has put out this year IMHO. Maybe even as good as DM2 ;) Its been out a few weeks and the theater was still packed at 2:00pm. That says something.

I thought the previews were awful. The whole moose and snowman thing? What? I don't get it. I am a big Disney fan and have seen the preview several times and couldn't tell you what the movie is about.

Before we went last week we really didn't understand what the movie was about either. We went for two reasons; we had free tickets and we heard great things about the movie. We were not at all disappointed in the movie. I won't tell you the actual storyline because its probably best for you to let it unfold, but if you must know try looking on a site like Rotten Tomatoes, where it also gets very good reviews.

Those free tickets we had? Just icing (see what I did there) on the cake. We would have felt the movie was well worth the full admission price.

My son and I went( best date I've had in years ). He liked so much we're going this time with the rest of the family. Loved the twist on " true love" Very awesome and the music was great!

My husband and I took our 4 year old DD to go see it on Black Friday and she LOVED IT.. I think it was so cute. My husband and I laughed, it really kept all ages attention. MANY innuendos, that ONLY adults would get.. LOL. My husband hasn't stopped talking about it, when we see previews for it on TV. He thought it was a bit boring in the beginning, but then got into towards the middle and end. THAT is a hard thing to do with my husband. He's not a BIG girly movie watcher. So for him to say it was cute.. it has to be good. My daughter LOVES Olaf. Her favorite character. After this recent snow storm we had, she insisted we build a snowman and name it Olaf...

This, from Boxofficemojo.com, will answer some questions about Frozen's foreign rollout. It is doing fantastic domestically (better than Tangled, $300 mill possible) and setting records overseas.

"Already a sensation at the domestic box office,*Frozen*also looks poised to be a huge hit overseas. The Disney Animation flick added $35.1 million this weekend for a new total of $152.6 millionand its only playing in 61 percent of the international marketplace. It had strong start in Mexico ($5.5 million) and Italy ($2.9 million), both of which were ahead of similar movie*Tangled."

We used to go see every Disney movie but I have to say frozen really doesn't appeal to me so I'm not driven to go see it. It has been released both in the UK and France. It strikes me as more of a girls film and we tend to go more for unisex as we have girls and bits.

I saw the previews and had zero interest in going. It looked like ice age meets tangled. I hated ice age. And that snowman - ugh. But DH and my two boys (11&8) dragged me along. I LOVED it. They loved it. I actually want to go see it again.

I love frozen!! That is one of the best animatef movies I have been in a long time

Well over $500M worldwide at after this weekend according to the numbers. Looks like at least $7-800M by the time it leaves the theaters. Pretty good numbers.

We are going to see it for a second time this coming weekend. DD loved the movie and we plan to head to Disney on Ice and then follow up with Frozen.

I just took my 4 yr old dd for her 1st movie in a theater and she set thru it and watched it the whole time and loved it. I can't lie i liked it as well, I thought it had one of the best endings of a disney movie.

My DS (7) loved it! he said it was not a Princess Movie at all. We also have the CD and he sings along at full volume, lol.

#1 disney movie since finding nemo in my mind. So simplistic yet so deep, so serious yet so funny, so lite yet so many teaching moments, so girly yet so boyish.

In the end I was so surprised just at how well they pull this movie off and my #1 film of the year beating Hobbit and Hunger Games as they both are just part 2 of a series of films.

As a family who usually RUNS to see movies when they first came out, we waited 2.5 weeks before we saw the movie. After seeing the previews, I really didn't have any interest in sitting through it. It just seemed...boring. I was not familiar with the story it was based on and some of the previews were downright confusing and uninteresting. I reluctantly took the kids. That said, I LOVED the movie!! It really was great! I think they could have done a better job with the previews, and even though it seems to be doing well, that could be holding it back from realizing its true potential. It really was a great movie and Olaf was soooo funny!!

Yes its a little harder to judge animated movies by their previews. With regular films you have the actors, directors, and writers to consider as we'll as an understanding of the basic plot.

I thought the previews were awful. The whole moose and snowman thing? What? I don't get it. I am a big Disney fan and have seen the preview several times and couldn't tell you what the movie is about.

Yes! I thought I was the only one! After each preview I've see, I'm left thinking "huh?". Makes me not want to see it at all. And I've heard people comparing its greatness it to Beauty and the Beast, I don't buy that for a second.

I admit I was also in the group of people going "eh" and not that motivated to see it. I know I was going to get it on DVD/Blu-ray (I prefer to have my own copy of any movie especially Disney) so spending another $30 to see it in theaters (I see movies with my brother) didn't really appeal to me. Then I saw the clip of "Let it go" that was released. Loved the song and the visuals and realized I had to see it in 3D at least once. Frozen is definitely the best Disney movie I've seen in a long time. It really goes back to the Disney I remembered growing up with the songs that really gets stuck in your head (I loved the Tangled songs but there was just something about them: pitch, rhythm, lyrics, I don't know that makes it hard to just randomly start singing them). But it also has the modern twist with the CGI visuals and the subversion of some common tropes (my brother loved the new take on "true love"). One of the first things my brother said as we were leaving the theater was that we are definitely getting it when it comes out.

We just saw it yesterday, and I agree the trailers did not do this movie justice... but easily now one of the top movies from Disney!

And what a career launcher for Jennifer Lee (screenplay, co-director.) Go read about her career so far and the milestones this movie set for a woman directing a movie at a major studio! I hope she has a lot more in her yet. She even had a credit as a voice and her 10 year old daughter sang in it also, which is kind of cool.

Given they did not pay tens of millions for big names to voice the characters, this movie is probably going to be very profitable for Disney also.

I'd agree...I had no desire to see it based on the previews. I had no clue what it was about and that annoying trailer of the snowman and reindeer drove me crazy. But we took the kids this week...easily the best animated film by anyone since Lion King. We'll be going to see it again before the kids go back to school.

Why are Frozen's international takes so low? It has only done about $56m so far when it should be more around like $260m! Did Disney have a limited release outside the US or something?
At this pace it might barely beat Planes in total take. However, once you subtract the 150 million it cost to make it, it won't be a very successful (monetarily) movie overall.
Please tell me that it just had a delayed release internationally. I can't imagine that the story isn't selling well abroad. Or can it be that the cold theme just not clicking with people in the winter?
~Frozen performed exceptionally well under some stiff competition from 'Catching Fire' and The Hobbit 2! Frozen even stole first place from the Hunger Games for a week! The movie has only been out for just over a month and has already snagged two Golden Globe nominations for Best Animated Feature Film &
Best Original Song! Plus, the film has already won at least a dozen award from the smaller film organizations. Oscar nods are on their way! :cool1:

~So far Frozen has grossed $500 million worldwide ($250 domestic) and still going strong. It's number 2 this week at the box office with just a million in difference behind The Hobbit 2! Not bad for an animation in it's sixth week!

~Anyway, I really thought I was going to be underwhelmed with Frozen, but it was the opposite for me. And, I just *love* Olaf -- that little snowman has so much swagger! He's adorable! But yeah, I loved the movie. We saw it twice and recommend seeing it in 3D! It's so beautiful. :lovestruc
