What is up with Frozen?!

Boy I'm starting to feel like I'm the only one who thought it was meh with no memorable scenes or songs.

Hopefully, I won't read any reviews before hand next time. It wasn't in the Lion King or Beauty and the Beast category, that reviewers put it in, for me.

The 3D Mickey cartoon was awesome though.

Actually I sorta agree with you...
Frozen was good...but not that good. I thought tangled was better.

We see this all the time around here...frozen, toy story 3, the avengers...all "greatest movies ever "
Nope...not at all. Just disney over zealous fan base.

Actually...I've always thought The Lion King was overrated... The peak was Aladdin

I think Tangled is still my favorite. I definitely think Frozen is better than Beauty and the Beast. ::ducks::

Spoiler alert (got yelled at last time I didn't put that in even though the movie has been out forever :goodvibes):
I finally saw it last weekend and thought it was very good but not great. I think I rate it just above Tangled and as probably their best animated film for a while. I just loved the Rapunzel and Flynn characters so much it is hard to win over that chemistry. If they were able to develop the characters in Frozen that well it would have been an easy win.
I guess that is what bugged me about Frozen, it was rushing by too quickly. It needed about another 15-20 minutes of good character development and interaction. I know that it is tougher to do that when you have more characters so I am definitely cutting Frozen some slack for that.
There were a couple of time line/plot issues too though. After Anna and Kristoff are chased off from Elsa's castle the Prince and villagers are able to march up to the castle, capture Elsa and beat them back to town. They even have Elsa incarcerated for a time before Anna shows up. I know they went to see the trolls but they portrayed that as a quick jaunt and that they moving very quick with Sven. I also can't understand why Hans just didn't let Elsa die at her castle? Maybe someone can throw a couple ideas out on that one?
But overall I did like the plot better and thought it was their most original story yet so I still feel it inks out a slight win over Tangled.

Actually...I've always thought The Lion King was overrated... The peak was Aladdin

The Lion King was definitely a notch higher in animation quality but I agree with you that Aladdin was the best by far. When you consider how much the Lion King was plagiarized it becomes even more lopsided.

My husband and I went to see Frozen in the theater this past Saturday and loved it! My husband actually stayed awake, which says a lot! I believe it would appeal to all ages, whether male or female. I didn't find it really girly at all. The characters are very well done, and have distinct personalities. My only wish was that they still were offering it in 3-d by the time we went to see it. The special effects would have really been awesome. But not seeing it in 3-d didn't take away from the wonderful experience. I would rate this 2nd on my my list of Disney movies... the 1st being Beauty and the Beast. Anna is also now among my favorite characters, as is Olaf. If you haven't seen it, make sure you do! The Mickey Mouse short at the beginning is awesome, too!:lovestruc

BTW,
I saw something in the ending credits that looked funny. Unfortunately it scrolled off the screen before I could read it. Did any one get a chance to read it all?
I think it was something like an apology from Lasseter about insinuating that all men do something very gross?

The views and opinions expressed by Kristoff in the film that all men eat their own boogers are solely his and do not necessarily reflect the views or opinions of The Walt Disney Company or the filmmakers. Neither The Walt Disney Company nor the filmmakers make any representation of the accuracy of such views and opinions.

We went with another family and everybody, even the adult men, loved the movie. It was not what we expected it to be. It was way better. I love Olaf!

I'm a man and occasionally act like an adult. I can't stop singing the In Summer song. I could blame it on my daughters who play the Frozen soundtrack constantly, but I won't because it would be a lie. In fact, to be totally honest, I pulled the video up on youtube this morning when I got to work and have played it several times today :rolleyes1 because I like it. :smokin:

~LOL, this is too funny. I love the summer song, too! :lmao:

~My favorites are:

  1. Frozen -- Elsa is my favorite princess, she's like an Avenger in an evening gown! You can put Elsa up against any action hero and she would win while walking like Gisele at the same time. Perfect. I also love Olaf, he's so adorable. And, I love the unpredictable twist at the end.

~Also, I really thought Olaf was going to melt as in sacrifice himself for one of the princesses to stay alive or something. I was so happy that everyone was alive at end! I love happy endings! :lovestruc

  2. The Little Mermaid -- Ariel is my second favorite princess. I love her voice and the tropical setting and music.

  3. Tangled -- I love Rapunzel, but "Mother" is one of the best worst villains ever. Ugh.... She's terrible.

  4. Cinderella -- I despise the wicked stepmother and the step sisters -- I loathe them. :faint: But it's always happily ever for Cinderella! Yay! This story never gets old for me. I love all of the adaptations, too -- like Ever After. :cool1:

  5. The Lion King -- I love this movie *but* I can't seem to get past Simba losing his dad. Scar is the *worst* villian ever! It's just too sad. :(

  6. Wall-E -- I like Wall-E. He just adores EVE, it's so cute. I really like Eve, too.

  7. Dumbo -- I love Dumbo but it's a heart breaking film, especially being separated from his mom. Too emotional, but at least it had a good ending. :)

Actually, given her back story, she would fit in better with the X-Men. :thumbsup2 And yes, Disney made her so overpowered that if you dropped her in a comic book story line some whiny fan boys would complain that she's too powerful to be interesting, somewhere between Dr. Manhattan and Magneto.

I swear I saw Lasseter's name though...?

[*]Tangled -- I love Rapunzel, but "Mother" is one of the best worst villains ever. Ugh.... She's terrible.

They did an excellent job with her character but she is just to "real life" dysfunctional that it creeps me out. All the other "mother villains" are blown out of proportion so I feel better knowing people like that don't exist. With Gothel, she just makes me shiver as I imagine people out there in the real world have to deal with a person like that.

I took a fuzzy cellphone pic of the booger text, it says what I printed above. Lasseter's name is of course all over the credits but wasn't a part of this bit; I haven't heard of a separate one.

Mustafa? Mufasa was the dad....you are thinking of Scar :)

~LOL, this is too funny! I love the X-men! Elsa would be great in Mortal Kombat, too. I've seen some people mention that she would be a great match for Sub Zero! :rotfl2:

~I couldn't agree more. Mother Gothel gives me chills, she is one of the worst villains due to her realistic and manipulative characteristics. She's awful. If Flynn Ryder didn't cut Rapunzel's hair, she would have been controlled and victimized by Mother Gothel forever. :faint:

Yea this alone is Broadway material IMO.
~Yes, I agree. I can definitely see a Broadway interpretation of Frozen in the works! :cool1:

~LOL. :rotfl: Thanks for the clafication. I totally messed up on the names, so I'll go back and edit my post. But, yeah I despise Scar, he is the worst villain and his name reflects him perfectly. Scar edges out Mother Gothel for worst villain. :(

:(
The Lion King was definitely a notch higher in animation quality

Interesting, I don't think so at all. While the art and animation are good, I think the advances in animation make the more modern movies and Frozen in particular much better. They could do much better with Africa today. What an amazing world of ice and snow in Frozen.

An evil uncle is old school bad and Scar is terrible. But nothing can compare with the evil mother figure of Gothel who feigns love and is so horrible in reality. Nothing gets more chilling evil than that. Not queens who want beauty or uncles who want the throne. C-R-E-E-P-Y.:(

Yea this alone is Broadway material IMO.

Let It Go *IS* Broadway material already. It was written by Robert Lopez and his wife Kristen Anderson-Lopez, and was scored specifically to fit the vocal range of Idina Menzel (which explains why Demi Lovato's version can't touch Menzel's with a 20-foot pole.)

Robert Lopez won Tony Awards for the scores of Avenue Q and The Book of Mormon.

As to the plot of The Lion King being better, it's a little hard to beat Hamlet, after all. Hans Christian Andersen isn't normally classed as being the literary equal of Shakespeare, but he certainly had talent.

As for Elsa, she's a brat. A gorgeous, scared-out-of-her-mind brat, but a brat nonetheless. She has massive responsibilities, but until her sister makes the ultimate sacrifice for her, she just either hides from them or runs away, She also makes no real effort to control her temper. As a superhero, she's more than flawed, but she has a nice gift for architecture. ;)

~I totally agree with this! The first time we saw Frozen, we chose luxury seating in lieu of 3D. Once the short film started, I knew I made a mistake and we would have to see Frozen again in 3D. It really is a beautiful film and it just comes alive with all of the sparkling snow and pretty snowflakes! With that said, I still love The Lion King! :goodvibes

~Wow! This is really deep but so interesting to me, lol. :rotfl:

~I guess I ranked Scar a little higher on the worst villain poll because not only did he did murder Simba's dad, but he also had the audacity to blame Simba and then burden him with all the guilt. What Scar did was permanent, there was no way to bring Musafa back. Plus, Scar stole the thrown and gave the Hyenas run of Lion's Pride!

~With that said, I just can't excuse how vile and disturbing Mother Gothel is. There is no denying it. That's why I ranked Mothel Gothel as the second worst villain right after Scar -- but maybe she deserves more credit, I'll move her up. So, for me -- Mothel Gothel and Scar are tied for number one.

~Here is a list of the 30 worst Disney villains! ~Top 30 Disney Villains~ Unfortunately, this list is 10 years old. And, I haven't see all of these movies -- I'm unfamiliar with a few of the villains listed here.

  1. Maleficent (Sleeping Beauty)
  2. Jafar (Aladdin)
  3. Scar (The Lion King)
  4. Queen Grimhilde (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs)
  5. Ursula (The Little Mermaid)
  6. Cruella De Vil (One Hundred and One Dalmatians)
  7. Captain Hook (Peter Pan)
  8. Hades (Hercules)
  9. Judge Claude Frollo (The Hunchback of Notre Dame)
  10. Gaston (Beauty and the Beast)
  11. Shere Khan (The Jungle Book)
  12. Chernabog (Fantasia)
  13. Yzma (The Emperor's New Groove)
  14. The Queen of Hearts (Alice in Wonderland)
  15. Madame Medusa (The Rescuers)
  16. Professor Ratigan (The Great Mouse Detective)
  17. Shan Yu (Mulan)
  18. Hopper (A Bug's Life)
  19. Prince John (Robin Hood)
  20. Horned King (The Black Cauldron)
  21. Stromboli (Pinocchio)
  22. Pete
  23. Clayton (Tarzan)
  24. Madam Mim (The Sword in the Stone)
  25. Sid Phillips (Toy Story)
  26. Randall Boggs (Monsters, Inc.)
  27. Kaa (The Jungle Book)
  28. Governor Ratcliffe (Pocahontas)
  29. Captain Barbossa (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl)

~We really need a new updated list! It would be really interesting to see how some of the new villains would rank. Like Hans, he's really awful but I see him as more of an 'opportunist', but he's still very dark and sadistic though. Mothel Gothel would be ranked pretty high on the list, of course. The Toy Story sequel villains -- Lotso Bear was very manipulative and so was Stinky Pete.

~And, one terrible villain that no one mentions *ever* is Auto from Wall E. He or it -- was just terrible -- keeping several generations of people trapped in outer space for several hundred years. Okay, I'm done! :rotfl:

Yea this alone is Broadway material IMO.
:thumbsup2 Elsa is the best.

Disney's FROZEN Soundtrack Skates Toward No. 1 on Billboard 200 http://www.broadwayworld.com/articl...-Skates-Toward-No-1-on-Billboard-200-20140104

Billboard reports that Disney's FROZEN soundtrack could slide past Beyonce's self-titled album to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart by Sunday.

Read the original report here.

Last week (ending in December 29), the FROZEN soundtrack climbed from No. 8 to No. 4. It debuted at No. 18 on December 18, then skipped ahead to No. 11 the next week and quickly rose through the ranks.

If FROZEN hits No. 1 tomorrrow, it will be the first animated film soundtrack to make the top slot since Curious George in 2006. The last soundtrack (of both animated and live action films) to reach No. 1 was Les Miserables last year.

Featuring the voices of Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff, Josh Gad and Kristen Bell, and with original music by Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez (Book of Mormon, Avenue Q), the album is the 10th soundtrack from an animated feature to break into the top 10, and the first since CARS in 2006. Disney has seen six of its animated features in the top 10, including Aladdin (No. 1), The Lion King (No. 1), Pocahontas (No. 1), Tarzan (No. 5) and, as mentioned above, Cars (No. 6).

The official synopsis for FROZEN is as follows: "Fearless optimist Anna (voice of Kristen Bell) sets off on an epic journey-teaming up with rugged mountain man Kristoff (voice of Jonathan Groff) and his loyal reindeer Sven-to find her sister Elsa (voice of Idina Menzel), whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter. Encountering Everest-like conditions, mystical trolls and a hilarious snowman named Olaf (voice of Josh Gad), Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom."

FROZEN is directed by Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, with a screenplay by Jennifer Lee and Shane Morris based on the Hans Christian Andersen story THE SNOW QUEEN. FROZEN stars the voice talents of Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Jonathan Groff, Santino Fontana, Josh Gad and more.
