What is up with all the moved threads?

Very well said & I totally agree!!

This is my favorite section of the forum because EVERY purchase decision I make (from budget-minded recipes & shopping lists to kids shoes to toys to trip insurance) is with my budget in mind, so I appreciate hearing any topic from like-minded people. Whether it's within the narrowest definition of the "budget board" or not.

I'm also quite confused on what topics SHOULD go on this board now that almost everything has been moved to other sections of the site & is much more difficult to access.

I think moving the budget board out of the trip planning section and making it its own section with sub-sections for chit chat/community talk & Disney-specific budget questions is a fantastic idea.

This is my favourite section as well because every dollar saved in any area of our lives is a way to save for the next Disney vacation. I have found so many tips on this board and I fear I will not find them if I have to search several different boards.
If the fact that the savings are not on Disney products(?as I am not sure what the real problem is!?), then create a new Budget Board in the Just for Fun section so that we can all move there and have a centalized place to look for money saving tips from our fellow DISers.
All the moved threads = less savings for Disney as tips will not get passed on.

While furniture, dolls, buffets, and groceries might not be "budget related", when those topics are created on the "budget board", it means the person is looking for a cheaper, inexpensive, couponed way to do it.

Ex: Buffet for a party. Post it on the BB and people look for ways to cut costs, save a few dollars here and there, they're looking for posts on how to do it cheaply.
Post it on the CB, and well all things go. You'll have a variety of opinions, not all budget conscience, and very few posters will make a post about a cheaper option.

While it might seem like it's off topic. They want the opinions of those who like to find a good deal, from their budget minded friends.

What she said (that's what my rambling a few posts back was trying to convey, lol).

I am glad they are finally moderating the board. There are way too many threads that are not budget related and have been ignored for way too long. I am a long time reader of the budget boards also, and when it was being monitored it was much more useful based on budget.

I would like to hear from the posters who have complained or reported posts as to what they feel should be posted on the budget board. There was an old debate years ago that it should only be for saving money at disney, but those kinds of savings that were posted then aren't around anymore so it was updated to any money saved is more money for disney. I wonder if the posters who are unhappy aren't from the first camp.

You're welcome NYEmomma.

I visit both boards, and I totally understand the mind set of responses that would come from asking the question on each board.

And the community board is just so overwhelming. There's already a million topics there (and I'm tired of seeing 20 topics by low-key on the first page all the time). With it's own crowd of regulars that respond to other regular posters, but new or boring posters seem to be drowned out within a few hours over there.

Who really reads pages 2, 3, or 4 of topics?

As already noted, we've been getting multiple reports on a daily basis about threads off-topic for the Budget Board. These have been coming from multiple BB posters. The ones we find that are topical for other DIS forums have been moved. Many reported threads have not been moved too.

:thumbsup2:thumbsup2
I will not hide behind a bag and admit to reporting posts. It is annoying and yes I could ignore but why should I have to. I do read titles and then look at posts to see if they are budget. Some people really do stretch the budget relation in their posts. I support the moving and am in the minority but......

Thank-you for speaking up. Can you please tell us what posts you do feel belong on the budget board? Because some of the topics moved, such as the thread on buying trip insurance and another on IRA's, for example, are budget related. (I do realize that you may not have reported those posts, but those are the kinds of posts I'm confused about).

I happen to love the Budget Board and will be devastated if all of my favorite threads get moved. I actually think that instead of adding a Budget Community board, we should just move the Budget Board as it xists today under the Just for Fun category. Since, all resort questions belong on the resort board, ticket questions on theme parks, etc., there really isn't a need for a saving money on your Disney Trip board. BUT, we still need the Budget Board. And we need it to stay like it is!

PS I have already witnessed the devastation of the digital scrapbooking and camping communities here on the DIS. The Budget Board is my last remaining hangout. Please don't kill it!

No, I did not do the trip insurance or IRA ones as I believe those are budget. It was the battery charging one this morning...ones asking for recipe ideas for parties (like how how does this sound for a graduation party), questions on how to work a phone and a couple of others. In total maybe 5-6 maximum and none of the other ones like the IRA which I do believe have to do with money and should be here.... Those are the ones I admit to and since the battery one this morning I have not done anything. I am not the only one from what mods said and I have come after not being on in a while and seen lots moved (like yesterday afternoon). That was a surprise. There is another thread here today where people talk about sub-forums in the budget area which would be terrible IMHO but we all have different views on things. Thanks for not slamming me for reporting...those are the ones I did ..... figure if mod felt they belonged they'd leave them here.

In all fairness, I looked up some topics started by you here on the budget board. There were several that have nothing to do with budgeting...advice on what treadmills people like, what area of DC to stay in and using a gift card on your nook, for example. I think those are way more off topic than some of the threads that have been moved the past couple of weeks.
And I don't think anyone will 'slam you' for reporting threads *you feel are off topic. The budget board is probably the friendliest group of people i've encountered on the Dis :goodvibes We're just trying to understand why ones that are not off topic are being moved and asking for a community board like some of the other boards have.

I don't have a clue why people even care to report threads at all. The only thing I would ever report is spam or bad language. Do I really care if there is a thread about recipes here? Not really. I'm actually interested in recipes, so I"d probably read it, but if it was about sometimg I wasn't interested in, i'd just skip over it.

Yes I posted those here only because other people were posting topics like that here and I was new to this board.

Here is one that is way off topic...I answered it for the person. This is a link and this IMHO is one that doesn't belong here and a simple search will answer a question. Yes, mine too didn't belong here and I should not have posted them here but like others I made an error and I admit it. I have learned what to post here and what not to post on this forum. If it is budget it goes here and if not community area where non-budget topics go. There are lots still here that don't belong here...but that are here. I have admitted that I am guilty of posting wrong posts here and if they had been moved I wouldn't have 'taken offense' as so many here do. I would have thought ok I posted in the wrong place and they moved it...no biggie.

Here is another one that should be moved....an example .....I think so many post here as it is close to the top and community is way down in the 'basement' for the 'lower' people.

In all my years here i've reported 2 threads...both because a troll was posting nude pics. I do as you, if it doesn't interest me, I just keep scrolling down the list. Not everyone is going to be interested in every thread.

Yes that is true but when there are 10 threads like that daily cluttering the budget forum it makes it harder to go through and some with titles that aren't clear look like they might be budget and aren't. AND YES I AM GUILTY OF POSTING 3-4 NON BUDGET POSTS IN THIS FORUM...one on D.C., one on treadmills, one on nooks and an 'iffy' one on budget ideas for South Carolina. As I said I also reported just a few...bet the others who have reported won't step forward that is fine too. I think mods use their judgement and decide if it belongs.

Same here! I would only report spam, scam or bad language.

I enjoy reading ways of saving money. Not everything to me has to directly relate to Disney. If someone found a great deal on some Crocs (which I would wear at Disney) then I'd like to know about it. Even if I wouldn't wear to Disney, I'd still like to know about it.

Since we are making up all these new sub-forums, how come the DisBoutique Thread didn't get a sub forum when the DisDads got one and they haven't been around nearly as long!

Personally, I think there are a bit too many forums for everyone to navigate. If the mods feel they must move all the budget threads that don't relate to WDW to the community board, then I guess I will not bother coming back to this Board because those are the threads I like to read.

Oh, I forgot I'm in charge of a Fridge Swap, I guess I'll be here for that!

You can put your cursor over the title and read a line or two of what it is about.

I have had many invaluable budget tips here, including scoring amazing deals for things that I never would have been able to find on my own. I usually come to the Budget Board on average about once a day (more if I am planning a trip or looking for a particular deal). I agree with many that it feels like "home" to me, and it is the board I view far more often than any of the others.

Moderators, I am grateful for what you do and I wouldn't want your job. I don't post much, but I do try to share budget tips and deals with others here when I find them. If that is inappropriate, I will stop...but I think it is still in the spirit of the board. I don't want to make the Mods work harder, but I also don't want to be assigned points, either!

That said, if a thread has been moved, it doesn't bother me to click on the "moved" link to read it. It is what, an extra click?
