I wont' droan on and on...but we are planning to go in Sept for 5 nights (9-20-26)...and there are NO ROOMS available at all at the Pier and the DLH..which is really ODD because I could book a suite in August...

Is there SOMETHING going on at those two hotels that lasts from Sept 20th into the second week in October...or are the really BOTH sold out?

Thanks!

I know that it's SUMMER!! And that between now and the end of Sept their is a promotion offering 2 nights free for a total of 5 so I'm sure that's causing the fill up as well. Sometimes calling each day to see if someone has cancelled works...OR you can stay pretty close on Harbor Blvd. at a Good Neighbor Hotel. We LOVE Best Western Park Place Inn and have stayed more times than I can count.

I ran into this problem, too. I was trying to book a room with our AP discount for 2 nights for our wedding, but there are no rooms available. I looked on the Anaheim Convention Center website to see what types of events are going on and it looks like that might be the culprit. There is a large corporate group that has the entire CC blocked off, so I'm assuming that has something to do with it. Bummer. :sad1:

We have been 4 times in Sept. We have a child with autism and like to travel in off times...
We were not sure we would be able to travel this Sept but my dh came home yesterday and said 'BOOK IT'.

So I started looking into it and was floored that there are NO ROOMS at all for nearly a month at either the Pier or the DLH. It just seems really odd...ya know?

We have stayed at the DLH and the Pier and we need to have the Disney Property in out travel plans because of my younger son's needs.

Ok..so I guess I droaned. LOL! I just wanted to post to see if there was some planned construction or something else that would have those place booked SOLID...and yet there are rooms available for August...

It just feels like something else is going on...like rooms are available Sept 13-20 but after that ...NOTHING. until Oct 10th...

Well, the last time I looked at the AP Calendar, just a few days ago, there were rooms available at both the DLH and PPH in September - quite a few, in fact. So here is what I am thinking - OP, if you do not have an AP, then probably the regular rooms available through Central reservations are booked, but there are other ones that are blocked for AP holders and those are still free (though going quickly). So technically, there is availability, but different rooms are held for different things. Also, there is a PIN discount offer that some people received (some didn't) for 35% off room prices, and that expires on September 30, so other rooms are blocked for that offer and those may be available too (but you have to receive the offer), but people are trying to take advantage of that before it expires. Then, on top of that, the get 5 for 3 offer is very popular, and that offer ends sometime in late September, like arrival has to be on or before the 25th or 26th, but the reservations have to be made by August, so I would imagine a lot of people without APs and without PIN offers jumped on those rooms, and that is likely another reason why September is full. Plus, the Halloweentime season will begin on September 25th, so I imagine that a lot of people are using their various discounted rooms with the hotel offers mentioned above in those last few days of September to see the Halloween stuff.

I called a couple of days ago to Disney Travel and they said.."convention" season. The hotels are super busy. Hope it helps!!

2 big things going on in September-D23 Expo and Haunted Mansion 40th Anniversary celebration....this might be why the hotels are booked.

Thanks all for the input. I KNEW something was up.... : )

Seems like Sept might be a not so great time this year.

I just checked the AP calendar again and there are still rooms available in September. So again, when they tell you they are all booked, or when the website says that, that is the general response that means is all the rooms available for the general public are booked, but there are other rooms still available for AP holders, for PIN code offer holders, for special packages, etc. There are clumps of rooms blocked (set aside) for all kinds of different offers, including conventions, and if those don't eventually get all booked up then they will make some available to the general public down the road, I assume, but not until September.

OP, keep in mind, too, that sometimes if you ask for a room-only reservation vs. a package with tickets OR ask for a package with tickets instead of room-only, you can find availability that way too. I have heard of DIS-ers calling and asking for a package and there was nothing, and then 5 minutes later asking for a room-only reservation and voila! Rooms were available. And it works the opposite way as well. Plus, people always cancel, so this far in advance of September, someone is bound to cancel and things will open up. You just have to try all the different little angles.

Something else to remember is that the DLH starts its refurb in late Aug. According to the LA Times, it will start with the Dreams tower and be a vertical tower shut down at a time. Without quibbling about how some towers are taller than others, it looks like approx. 1/6 of the DLH would be out of service at any given time until it is finished in 2012? When combining this fact with the convention season, you have very little room availability. I would check another TA or site like Expedia. I know that we all check the convention center site, but I don't think that it includes the conventions at the resort hotels as well. I know that the time we are going in Sept. (12-20) there will be the homeschool convention at GCH and a different convention at the DLH. I think that we are going to see decreased availability until the DLH refurb is done. I hope that this doesn't decrease the availability of AP rates for the next few years. I know that I was watching the AP rates closely for Sept. Just before they announced the DLH refurb, it seemed that the AP rates shot up dramatically across the board for Sept. I wonder if the two events were related.

Refub...ahaaahaaaa....that is what I thought was going on...just a hunch.

Thanks all for the input.

I noted there are plenty of rooms at the GC...I would be happy to book there for the PP prices.

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am definitely planning to get the $129 AP rate for PPH in late September (if my friends can hurry and figure out the date they are coming out here and can go). That is even better than what I paid last year to go the first weekend in October.

Do you by any chance live in SoCal? I seem to have two different e-mail offers right now - one is the PIN offer which is addressed to me, and one is a general SoCal resident offer where the PPH is $149 per night, but you have to mention the code associated with this offer and you have to be a SoCal resident. I bet there are still rooms available for that offer (because, again, certain rooms are blocked for certain offers).

No...we live in North Cali.

It's ok...we'll come up with Plan B...I am just glad I have an idea of why Sept is nuts.

Like I said..I think...we have been in Sept 4 previous times and NEVER had any trouble getting a room when booking in June..so I was thrown by this...

You're right - it is very unusual that even just the general public (non-AP holder/non-PIN holder) rooms would book up 3 months in advance - even in convention season (and I remember being told it was convention season by hotel staff in the past too, and it wasn't booked this far in advance). I don't think there is just one reason for why it has happened. I think it is a little bit of all of the things we have suggested, not the least of which is the get 5 nights for the price of 3 deal that people are trying to cash in on before it ends on September 26. I think THAT is actually a BIG reason why the rooms are booked, because the 5 for 3 deal is too good to pass up.

But, still, keep checking with Reservations periodically - both room-only and packages - because someone will eventually cancel and rooms will open up.

Not to be nosy but is the need to stay on property because of the proximity? I just came back from staying at the Desert Inn, which is right on Harbor, 1 hotel away from the crosswalk. The room was very clean and quiet - I never heard anyone from my room...I was put in the section in the back. The hotel is closer to the parks than DLH or PP and it was nothing to walk back for a break. My sister stayed at DLH - to be honest, I wasn't that impressed with their room!

Anyway, just thought I'd share my experience. The only DLR hotel I'd ever stay at again for location convience would be GCH.

I am so worried about this too. We went Sept 13-20 last year and LOVED having no crowds. So, we booked a trip this year Sept 19-26 expecting the same low crowd levels. However, the room situation is really freaking me out. The convention that is occurring is a security consultant convention and it doesn't seem like the kind of thing people would bring their families along to, but who knows. I just pray that when the 5 for 3 promo ends in Aug there is a big opening up of rooms and perhaps as SherryE stated, they have just been on hold for the promos. I don't think there is anyway we are going to know until we actually get there.

Well....on our 5 previous trips we have always stayed at a DLR hotel...and to be honest, we travel with one child with high functioning autism and the room service, great pool and exceptions they make for us make it a must to stay at one of the three Disney Properties.

I will admit... I'm one of those people who snagged up a DLH room in sept with the Get 5 for 3 deal.

How can you not, though? It is too good of a deal to pass up, really. I think I am going to miss my opportunity to take advantage of it because I am waiting on some friends to decide what dates they are available to go to DLR, but if I were not waiting on them I would jump on that offer! That has to be a huge reason why so many of the September rooms are booked up now. What I wonder is why they didn't extend the 5 for 3 offer through October, which is technically supposed to be off-peak season (even though it was super busy last year). Maybe because October was so crowded last year, they feel like they don't need to lure people in with nifty deals on rooms.

Well...I kept checking today 9-13 thru 9-19..and VIOLA..it popped up AVAIL...so I booked it on the spot!!!!!

We went a few years ago during the same time period..and it was a ghost town...

I am one of 'those parents' who will pull kids from school for our once a year vacation. PLUS, traveling with a child on the autism spectrum lends us to want to go when it is less crowded..even with the GAP, crowds can be tricky.

I am glad you guys helped me out...and encouraged me to not give up hope yet....

THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
