Pirate Pins - VMK cards

But it is interesting that you can "Buy it Now" when they cant possibly have it yet themselves. Would love to question the legality of that approach. Fascinating...

wow that's a really cheap price seeing as how the ones from WDW will be $15..

It's perfectly legal. Selling goods that you do not currently have, but intend to obtain to fill orders, is absolutely legal and happens millions of times each day in ordinary commerce.

it's a $10 buck mark up.... I have seen worse..

The amusing thing is.... the seller will ship the pins for LESS than WDW will ship them!! WDW charges 850 and this seller charges ONLY $5~ rofl

Umm... $25 + $5 shipping vs. $14 + $9 shipping from WDW. Seems higher to me.

It looks unprofitable to me. Let's see: ebay charges you about $3 for the listing plus final value fees. Disney charges you $22.50 including shipping. You spend about $4 in postage, plus 50 cents in packaging. The cost for the seller to get them, and then get them to you, is about $27. All that work to net maybe $3. You won't catch me selling these on ebay. Waste of time.

Their shipping and handling is based on how much you buy. If you maximize the amount of sets you buy for each shipping tier you can get the sets for about $17.

Hi,

Some insight since I have been selling on Ebay for many years-not VMK items I sell fabric.

What that seller is doing is allowed. He states that it is a pre-sale which is done all the time. I myself do not sell something unless it is in my hands but that is my policy. He is legit in what he is doing.

Next his listing and selling fees on a $25 item is no where near $3.00. it is less then a $1.00. My guess is that this person will go to WDW and buy them directly. He will pay tax on the item but no shipping. So know lets say with tax a box is $15.50. He is making a profit of $9.50 per box.

Now the shipping. He is charging $5 to ship for first item and $2 for each item after that. He is making money off of that. There is a flat rate global priority envelope that I bet I could get at least 5 boxes in it (I get 8 yards fabric in 1) and it is $4.05 to ship that. There is also a flat rate prioroty box that is $8.10 to ship that I am sure could hold 25 or more boxes.

So let's use an example. Say you bought 5 boxes from this person it would break down like this:

5 x $25=$125
shipping 1st item $5.00 addtitoanl 4 items $8.00 total- $13.00

total to seller- $138

his cost-
5 boxes at $15.50- $77.50
sellers fees to ebay- $5.00

his shipping cost $5.00

total seller spent- $87.50

$138 - $87.50 = $50.50 profit per the 5 boxes or he is making $10.10 profit on every box he sells. May not sound like a lot but do it 40 times and it adds up.

Now on another note I buy items to and I will tell you that many sellers will charge you alot for shipping then send it the cheapest way possible and say the rest is a handling fee. I do not do this. I charge no handling fee and I only charge actual shipping costs. This is why I have so many repeat customers.

Now you may not think any of this is right but as long as there is someone willing to buy and pay for an item there will be someone there to sell it. I loved using EBay last year when we decided to do our first ever all Disney tree. I bought a lot of Disney lights, storybook ornaments and a tree topper that were no longer for sale. It is the worlds largest flea market.

Bug, I couldn't have said it better. I've been buying and selling on ebay for a long time. Your analysis is spot on. :thumbsup2

As others said, this is the norm in the business world. Especially on the wholesale end, but often on the retail end. It would only become a legal issue if they failed to deliver by their promised date or took the money and did not deliver at all. Bug has this all about right, except she left out the possibility they may be buying at a discount as well. (ie. employee of park or reseller or manufacturer) as long as they obtained them legally and deliver they should be ok.
