Hi,
Some insight since I have been selling on Ebay for many years-not VMK items I sell fabric.
What that seller is doing is allowed. He states that it is a pre-sale which is done all the time. I myself do not sell something unless it is in my hands but that is my policy. He is legit in what he is doing.
Next his listing and selling fees on a $25 item is no where near $3.00. it is less then a $1.00. My guess is that this person will go to WDW and buy them directly. He will pay tax on the item but no shipping. So know lets say with tax a box is $15.50. He is making a profit of $9.50 per box.
Now the shipping. He is charging $5 to ship for first item and $2 for each item after that. He is making money off of that. There is a flat rate global priority envelope that I bet I could get at least 5 boxes in it (I get 8 yards fabric in 1) and it is $4.05 to ship that. There is also a flat rate prioroty box that is $8.10 to ship that I am sure could hold 25 or more boxes.
So let's use an example. Say you bought 5 boxes from this person it would break down like this:
5 x $25=$125
shipping 1st item $5.00 addtitoanl 4 items $8.00 total- $13.00
total to seller- $138
his cost-
5 boxes at $15.50- $77.50
sellers fees to ebay- $5.00
his shipping cost $5.00
total seller spent- $87.50
$138 - $87.50 = $50.50 profit per the 5 boxes or he is making $10.10 profit on every box he sells. May not sound like a lot but do it 40 times and it adds up.
Now on another note I buy items to and I will tell you that many sellers will charge you alot for shipping then send it the cheapest way possible and say the rest is a handling fee. I do not do this. I charge no handling fee and I only charge actual shipping costs. This is why I have so many repeat customers.
Now you may not think any of this is right but as long as there is someone willing to buy and pay for an item there will be someone there to sell it. I loved using EBay last year when we decided to do our first ever all Disney tree. I bought a lot of Disney lights, storybook ornaments and a tree topper that were no longer for sale. It is the worlds largest flea market.
