I travelled through DTW this past weekend and saw the "parallel reality" kiosk, but didn't investigate. I wish I did.

What do you think? Too much? Would you try it?

It's cool technology, but really kind of useless if you already have the app (which you need in order to use this). I mean, the app will notify you of your boarding gate, baggage carousel, any delays, etc. How much information do you really need in an airport that is otherwise hard to find? This feels like if requires more effort than just simply looking down at your phone.

Although the technology is pretty amazing, I'll give them that.

Yes, I agree it's redundant right now. But in the future, you wouldn't need to pull your phone out. Walk off the plane, walk up to the monitor, it recognizes your face and tells you where to go (insert joke here). You and I are looking at the same screen and it tells me my connection is gate A32 and tells you to go to baggage claim 16? That's pretty cool.

Next time I fly through Detroit, if I have time, I'm definitely going to try this.

I already don't pull my phone out. I have a smart watch and get app notifications on my wrist as they come in. Worked great on my last flight to Chicago.

I can't remember if my watch shows me Delta notifications or not. Even with notifications on my phone, I still double check the monitors in the airport.

Interesting. I haven't looked at an airport monitor in ages. I only glance up at the one at the gate to make sure I'm at the right one.

I don't know how other watches work, but with my Samsung Galaxy Watch, I have to specifically allow apps to send me watch notifications by toggling them on in the app. It's not like that by default. I have it set to only send me notifications from specific apps, like Ring, WhatsApp, Disneyland, and my text messaging app. I turn on the ones from airline and rideshare apps only when I travel.

I'll take a look. I have a Garmin. I get notifications from other apps, just don't remember if I get them from Delta.

It's a setting. I change my fitbit to show me whatever airline I'm flying that day. Still have to look at the monitors occasionally when airlines change gate 5 times in 12 minutes. Has happened twice, once with Delta in San Diego and once with United at O'Hare.
