We are planing to visit Celebration when we come over in April. I reacon it looks really pretty and isn't that where they filmed 'The Trueman Show'? I thought since it was so near to WDW it would be worth a visit.
On Market and Front Streets in Celebration is their downtown area. There are several nice and also casual restaurants there. Front Street Cafe (if this is what they are calling it this week..they have changed the name several times) is great for any meal of the day. Good food, homestyle, almost like a diner. Save room for the banana or coconut cream pie!
There are quite a few shops to look in. There is also an ice cream shop and Barney's coffee. There is an area to sit by the lagoon there with rocking chairs. Nice to grab an ice cream or coffee and sit and relax. They have a water/squirty fountain thing for kids to play in and an AMC movie theater.
You can always drive around and look at the homes too.
Actually, I think they filmed the Truman Show in Seaside which is in the Florida panhandle. Seaside was modeled after Celebration and also includes pricey homes and townhomes. There will be many more of these types of communities developing in the Florida panhandle gulf coast since the St Joe company sold their paper company and has begun developing millions of the acres they own in Florida. They now have one of the guys who developed Celebration working for them developing all of their new communities along the gulf, much to the objection of the locals who have always enjoyed the natural beauty of undeveloped coastlines which is very rare in Florida.
Sorry, didn't mean to get off the subject. Have a good time and let us know if you find anything fun in Celebration!
I have been to Celebration twice now. My last visit we took a drive through the community just to look at all the houses. You really forget that you are in Florida when you are there. You feel like you are in small town America. The downtown area has the feel of true Americana. My first visit to Celebration was on a timeshare tour where the timeshare coordinator took us to lunch at one of the downtown restaurants. I believe it was the Front Street Cafe that DVC mentioned. Really good Cuban sandwiches there(I am a Cuban sandwich junkie when I am in Florida)
I almost forgot...Celebration has a new Japanese restaurant where the Wyland Galeries used to be. I haven't eaten there, but looking at the menu, they have a lot of choices. Extensive sushi menu too!!!
I live in Celebration! On Friday & Saturday nights you can take horse & carriage rides around town, you can rent a little paddle boat and paddle yourself around the lake, there are some great restaurants here, Market Street Cafe, Antonio's, The Bostonian, etc. Rent a NEV (neighborhood electric vehicle) from NEVRland for the afternoon and drive around in an electric car ( I own one, and LOVE it!) Take a look at the model homes. It is a great place, obviously I love it or I wouldn't live here!
