Due to the strong dollar we are heading south instead of west this summer for summer holidays. Been down to Montana lots of times, drove through it lots but never really stopped for any length of time. What is there to do in Montana with three kids?

If your willing to drive, then I would head to Yellowstone. It is located in the northwest corner or Wyoming, bordering with Montana and Idaho.

If your kids are younger than 12, then the National park has a great junior ranger program.

DW and I were thinking of doing the exact same thing...but the week after the Labour Day long weekend. Like you said, our dollar is great right now but it's fuel prices that are going to kill us!

We're looking at staying in Whitefish but, again, don't know what there is to really do while we're down. Golfing is definitely an option...

There is a lot to do in just the Whitefish area. Whitefish has a very nice beach. You could drive to Glacier national Park and go on one of the best drives in the country the going to the sun road . Another fun thing to do is hop the train and go to glacier for not much money. You could go White water rafting. How about hiking. My children want to go back to that area real bad but not this year.

Those are great suggestions. Have not been to Yellowstone in years! I actually believed when I was a kid that it was called Jellystone and I remember being disappointed because I could not find Yogi Bear.
Has anyone been to Silverwood in Idaho? It is only a 8 hour drive from Calgary.

I was at Silverwood about 12 or 13 years ago (if not more!) and it was a lot of fun! I'm sure they've changed it up since then though. Just be sure not to expect too much from it (as compared to WDW) because Silverwood really doesn't hold a candle to the magic. If you're in the area definitely check it out though. I think you can probably find some discounts somewhere; be sure to look!

DW and I are thinking about taking a camping trip down that way around the September long weekend. We're thinking about heading down to Montana, over to Idaho and then up through B.C. Nothing is set in stone yet, we're just trying to come up with ideas. We'll also have a new puppy by then and she'll be close to 3 months old so we can't go too crazy with the travelling.

Our original plan was to head over to Ainsworth HS and Nelson and just chillax but we cannot decide.
