I am becoming quite depressed at the weather forecast for the upcoming week at DW. We leave this Thursday for our first family trip and were planning on the MNSSHP on the 4th...Looks like the forecast is rain, rain and more rain...

Any tips on how to enjoy a vacation (we are staying at FW cabins) at DW in the RAIN???!

Thanks for any encouragement! :headache:

Put on ponchos and keep going. Seriously. The lines will be shorter because everyone else will be ducking the rain!

If that really doesn't work for you, try shopping, visiting some of the resorts, catch a movie at DTD. At Epcot, spend time at Living Seas, The Land or the Imagination Pavilion.

One word.....PONCHOS.

Seriously. Don't let the rain stop you. It's actually a great time to be in the parks as it keeps the crowds down.

Great minds think alike! :thumbsup2 (I can't believe we both said "Seriously"!) :rotfl:

Many of the attractions are indoors or undercover. Disney new what they were doing when they built the parks in Florida and having to deal with the Florida weather. Just bring ponchos or small umbrellas if you come out of an attraction and it's raining. We were in Disney at this time in 2005, and spent a whole day in the water park with no rain even though it was forcasted. Sometimes you can go in an attraction and the rain is over by the time you come out, and other times it's a downpour it and moves on. Unlike a vacation to the beach, you can still have a great time when it rains at Disney. I'd rather be in Disney in the rain than home on a sunny day!! Enjoy your trip. :) Linda

I appreciate the quick responses and the charge to make the best of the weather! I just hope the MNSSHP is nice and dry as well as at least sing-a-long with Chip and Dale at FW! thanks again :)

I also want to point out that if you buy a poncho at Disney and it rips, you can replace it at NO CHARGE anywhere within the parks that they are sold. Most folks don't know that.

Even if it rains. Like everyone has already stated, make sure to carry ponchos. I would carry your own, because they are much cheaper and if you buy one there a million people will be wearing them and it is much easier to get separatd from your crowd. However as some have stated crowds will not be a problem and you will enjoy the freedom you receive by continuing to tour while others hunker down. We have been there during a time when a hurricane was just off shore offering some infrequent rain once in a while and we almost had the parks to ourselves. You could walk on about anything you desired. It was unbelievable how empty it was.

How true. pouncho's are great.

Have fun in your Mickey poncho playing in the rain! We love the FW cabins-
have fun!:goodvibes

Our best morning in the parks was when it was raining. We poncho'ed up and hit the rides. It wasn't hot, and the lines were short. Just expect to get wet and make the best of the day.

Are most of the rides indoors? What kind of entertainment can you expect to be shut down when it rains?

most rides are indoors. i can't remember any closures for rain, but i'm sure there are some.

The parades and fireworks etc sometimes don't go off in the rain. Test track sometimes. Light, Motor, Action and Indiana Jones if there are heavy rain and lightening. These are what comes to mind, there might be a couple more but
For the most part though, the show goes on.

wear teva sandals or flip flops or crocs(beware...crocs are super slippery in the rain and falls are ouchy:headache: ) dont have wet sneakers or u will be super unhappy,..... plan to slog thru rain and puddles and u will be fine, plan to bring a small hand towel to dry feet in air conditioned restaurants and u will be happier! Footwear choic willbe crucial to your happiness, bring extra shoes, sandals, flip flops in your suitcase so u are ready....we wer just at Hershey Park and spent 3 hrs waiting for a store to open Sunday morning cuz DHs sneaks were wet the day b4, we only had two days there and wasted 3 EARLY morning entry hours on one!!! :sad2: :scared: .........be prepared...........and have a blast puddle jumping!!

In 5 years of going in late August, rain has never affected our trip.

It rains for a little while then stops.

The one year we were stuck at the transportation center because of a tornado warning. Actually, looking back, that was pretty cool. I've never seen it rain that hard. After an hour the sun came back out.

If you get the Disney poncho and it rips, you can exchange it free for a new one.

I DO NOT recommend buying the really cheap, really thin, really lightweight ponchos available at Dollar stores. We did that one year and all it took was about ten minutes and we all had rips and tears in them and got drenched. Another year we took heavier ponchos (I think from Menards and they even had rebates on them if I remember right:cool1: :cool1: ) and suffered no tears, rips, and managed to stay dry except for our feet. We were so excited that we ignored the wet shoes/feet the best we could. So true about going anyway and being tough! Just carry on and enjoy the parks with fewer people in line. ;) ;) :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
