What is the week before Columbus Day like?

Hello everyone,

I have a trip booked for the last week of September, but would really like to go in October for Food and Wine and was thinking of pushing my trip back a week, from 9/30-10/8. Is this a good week to go in terms of crowds and weather? I know weather is unpredictable, but what about crowds? I'm concerned because Columbus Day is 10/10 and I was wondering if the last few days of the week I want to go would get busy because of Columbus Day...

Do you think the last week of October, the week before Halloween would be a better week to go? :confused3 I'm clueless about October, I usually go in September or November! Thanks!

We went the week before Columbus Day in 2008, and crowds were low until the weekend.

They were noticeably higher on Saturday at Epcot, maybe a 6 or 7 on a 1-10 scale.

I experienced the same thing in 2010.

We have been this week in 2008 and 2010. We LOVE it. The crowds are low, and the weather is comfortable. Of course, the only thing we have to compare it to is July! Also, we always leave the Saturday before Columbus Day, so that probably helps to avoid crowds.

Crowds can vary but are generally light-ish. I suggest investing in the crowd calendar at Touring Plans.com - it's well worth whatever it is they charge for it these days. Besides that, late September and early October can still be swelteringly hot.

We have the same week booked. Been twice before and the crowds were great.

Food and Wine should be starting as well as MNSSHP.

A few years ago we did the week after Columbus Day, flying in on a Wednesday. Crowds were not bad, except at Epcot. We had made ADR ahead, and good think, because they were booked everywhere. October has become very popular with the addition of F&W Festival, MNSSHP and FD, although now they are down-grading the dining experience, but at that time no matter where you stayed you got full service dining.
