What is the TRUTh about bringing snacks into Disney Park - allowed or NOT allowed??

I bring snacks with me all the time....it would be funny to see someone toting around a hard cooler (llike your tailgating hehe) but I bring snacks with me all the time and water too!

I've walked through bag check eating and drinking, they don't care about that. PB&J, some pringles and some water bottles then you could buy a snack in the park that would do a lot to stretch your budget.

Um, no, it's for safety. Can you imagine the PR nightmare if there was a mass shooting at Disney? Or a terrorist attack?

No, it's not for safety,but PR,yes,that's exactly what it is. If a person wanted to enter a park hiding something dangerous,it would be very easy. PR is all about what people see as a safeguard,these 'searches' are nothing more than that. I've been going for many years, I know what a real search looks like. I have had all kinds of items looked at,and never questioned. I'm a peacable person,and I can imagine many different ways of causing havoc,if I wanted to get it by the 'security' bag checks. I know real Dis security is much more invisible,and real.
BTW, DawnM,that bag rocks! I could've used that on our trip west last month! I think I'm going to get one!

That may be true...

But one thing is for certain...

It isn't to keep out a contraband twinkie or Zephyrhills water bottle.

:thumbsup2

Awesome! We use it everywhere too. Day trips, park days, golfing, sports activities.

Ours has lasted for over 5 years now. The lining did rip once but we got it fixed (well, fixed it as best we could but ours is from back when they had an additional lining in it so it isn't necessary if it rips too much.)

For Disney we put a can of Pringles on the side pocket! We aren't Pringles fans usually, but bags of chips take up too much room.

Dawn

I love the look of that, it would be great, because I could stick my wallet in there and not have to carry a cooler and backpack.

What kind of lining does it have in it? I like the soft sided coolers with the plastci box in them because we like to toss in a bag of ice or just even put some ice from teh machines on the way to the park.

Well, sure, you could just load up your cargo pant's pockets with weapons and be good to go! But they are watching you too, as they look in your bag, to decide if you are suspicious. It slows down the flow of people and they can assess any threats.

I had a wiseguy last time who saw my Pepsi Max and informed me the parks are Pepsi free and could not be brought in. I told him I was allergic to Coke products! :) Then he tried to take my Cheez-Its.

I'll answer since I have the same one on Dawn's recommendation. We bought ours maybe 2 years ago now and it has a silver lining with clear PVC-ish lining over the top. It's not keeping things cold for super long periods of time, but it is perfect for packing lunches in the morning and heading out. But no, it does not have a harder plastic box structure in it. We had a Coleman one that had that feature, but the design of the bag was awful and it tipped over and spilled stuff out when we opened the bottom part.

Incidentally, the Igloo one is a perfect fit for the Ziploc containers that have the three compartments. So we'll often pack those as little bento boxes for our lunches. Then after we're done eating we just stack them together and have more room in the backpack. We pack three stacked in the backpack, but it would fit four.

I just heard from a guy who brings his family practically every year they don't allow anything and search your every bag.

I've noticed that, sometimes, the more a person goes, the less they really know about certain things. I've noticed it even with me...I didn't realize taht they'd lowered the hopping cost on a one-day ticket, because I never have looked at a one-day ticket! And my cousins, who are semi-local to WDW and go a whole lot for day visits, don't know quite a lot of the things that a proper tourist knows.

So he might have seen the bag searches, and simply assumed that they are looking for food etc. Or he's heard a CM joking, and took it to heart. Regardless, he's not correct.

Here's the official view on what you cannot take into the parks. Notice all that they do not say you cannot take in.

Are there any personal items I should not bring with me into the theme parks?

Items that you may not bring into the theme parks include but are not limited to:

* Items with wheels, such as:
o Wagons
o Skateboards
o Scooters
o Inline skates
o Shoes with built-in wheels
o Strollers larger than 36" x 52" (92 x 132 cm)
o Suitcases, coolers or backpacks with or without wheels larger than 24" (61 cm) long x 15" (38 cm) wide x 18" (46 cm) high. (Coolers required for medication may be stored in a locker or at Guest Relations.)
o Any trailer-like object that is pushed or towed by an ECV wheelchair or stroller
* Alcoholic beverages
* Weapons of any kind
* Folding chairs
* Glass containers (excluding baby food jars and perfume bottles)
* Pets (unless they are service animals)

In Disney's Animal Kingdom theme Park (for the safety of the wildlife), balloons, straws and drink lids are not permitted.

It is a neoprene type liner.

The old ones had an additional plastic zip out liner, but they don't have those anymore.

We just freeze a water bottle or two as our ice packs.

I wish they would really enforce the rule about no rolling coolers. Last week, a family in front of us brought three of them into MK and security just waved them through. We saw lots of rolling coolers and bags, mainly because we were tripping over them. So annoying.

That reminds me of a sight I saw at couple weeks ago at WDW. Wish I had been thinking quick enough to snap a picture as I was sure no one would believe it. Saw a woman carrying a Razor Scooter at MK (near SM). I guess they told her she (her kid) couldn't use it so she was carrying it around for the day. Not sure why it was allowed in through the gates at all though.

Just wanted to say I have the Igloo Maxcold backpack cooler as well, and I have to give it a huge :thumbsup2 . I *LOVE* mine. I asked for it a few years ago for Mother's Day and it's just the greatest thing! I have the older one with the clear zip-out liner and I love it because there's just no way it's going to leak. Both DS' are hardcore baseball players and older is in a travel league--it has been to literally hundreds of games and still looks new. Plus it's very comfortable to wear even when it's full of cans, water bottles, lunches, etc. And much easier than rolling a wheeled cooler to far-away baseball fields. ;)

to reiterate, yes, snacks are allowed.. we'l pack a soft side cooler w/ frozen water bottles and some fruit & veggies etc 7 & either carry it or put it in a locker for the morning and we have a nice refreshing snack in the afternoon

as far as the security check... something alot of people don't relise is the guards service both sides of the table.. so if there is a line of people on one side, don't be shy about walking up to the other. if you read the signs, it says BOTH sides of the checkpoint.. this is true about the CS ordering stations as well. your not cutting in line, your just following directions!

We bring a cooler filled with soda & ice in. It holds 12 soda cans.

We also bring in sandwiches, fruit, snacks, chips....basically anything goes.

Just got back and we saw more than one person pulling a smaller cooler on wheels. That surprised me, it's the first time I've seen people pulling coolers in the parks!! (both were in Magic Kingdom)

Thank you soooo much for these very helpful replies, I am going to put a link to this thread on my friends FB who told my husband all of these snacks are not allowed. Next time, maybe he'll take some, I think he gets the eating plans though.

We plan to have a stroller and pretty much fill it up with snacks, our camera and video camera, this will save us lots of $$ -beings there is 7 of us --

Any advice for the lowest cost place to eat for 1 meal at Magic Kingdom and Epcott (only 2 places we plan to go and Typhoon Lagoon - pretty sure)

??

Appreciate your replies very much!
