What is the saddest episode on a TV show that you've seen?

The saddest TV Show episode for me (or at least the one that I still remember being very shocked and saddened over) was on the show Chicago Hope, when their lawyer, Alan Birch was killed. He has just adopted a baby girl and was finally happy, then he was shot and killed. For some reason, in my teen-mind, I was just completely taken-aback and still think of that episode whenever I see Peter MacNicol.

Remember when the doctor's wife died on St. Elsewhere?

lOL, I've cried through a lot of tv shows!

I agree with the Buffy episode when her mother died. It was TOO realistic.

(And I can't watch the reruns of Rose getting trapped in the parallel universe on Doctor Who, too sad).

Everyone has already mentioned lots of sad shows. (Gary dying and Edith's slipper just about wiped me out.) I'll add the episode where Buffy has to kill Angel. That was so sad!

When Mark died on ER, that felt like someone I knew died.

Next, when Denny died on Grey's

The saddest one for me was on 8 Simple Rules. It was the first episode after John Ritter's death and they had written it into the story line. You knew that all of the emotions that you were watching were real. Those kids did an amazing job! I was bawling!

For any Guiding Light fans out there, recently for me was when Gus died. The last scene between Gus and Harley was heart wrenching.

When Edith was raped on All in the Family. :sad1:

When Dr. Greene died on ER. :sad1:

I remember crying a lot watching Little House on the Prairie, but I can't think of any specific episodes where I cried the most.

I can't remember an episode of Little House that I didn't cry. I was kind of like that with Touched by an Angel.

I agree with the Roseanne series finale and finding out Dan died, and MASH when Henry died.

Another one is an episode of Fresh Prince, believe it or not. The episode where Will's father returns and just as Will's starting to connect with his father he's backing out of taking him along in his truck and may or may not be back. That last scene with Will letting out all his rage and hurt and Philip there to comfort him, and Will starts to realize that his uncle is more of a father than his father is ... definitely shows Will Smith's acting potential back then.

remember the extra tug at the heartstrings at the end of that episode where they show him sitting at the bedside of the patient who received the wife's heart? he has a stethascope and is sitting there listening to the heartbeat with tears streaming down his face. very touching.

when it was revealed that dan had died on roseanne i lost it. i still can't watch that re-run without tears.

not the saddest, but 2 final episodes got me very teary-'wonder years'-where you hear about the dad passing away, and 'life goes on'-where an adult becca is telling her child about her young adult life and the love and loss of jessy. then her dh comes in the room, becca kisses the little one goodnight and you learn his name is jessy.

Doesn't anyone remember the "Love's Labor Lost" episode of ER, where Dr. Greene tried to save the pregnant woman and her baby? I was in full-on "ugly cry" with that one.

I also sobbed hysterically during Nurse Hathaway's last episode. She was taking care of a young mother dying of cancer whose name was Sheila. At the time, I was a young mother myself, with a 2 year old DD, and I just couldn't imagine going through something like that. Also, we had lost my MIL the year before to cancer, so the pain from that was still very fresh. The absolute kicker though? My MIL's name was Sheila. I quit watching ER after that; it wasn't entertainment anymore.

I remember that. I loved that program.

I still cry evertime I see that episode. I too had the "ugly cry"

Other times I've cried is when a number of my favorites on All M Children have either died or left the show.

Mine are:

Dr Green's death on ER
"Loves Labor LOst" on ER
Georgie on GH
Dominique on GH
There was an episode of Growing Pains where Carol's boyfriend(played by Matthew Perry)died from a car accident because he had been drinking:sad1:
When Dan died on Roseanne

I'm a crier, so I know I've cried at a lot, I just can't recall any other than a couple:

Henry dying on MASH.

Party of Five when Bailey is trying to leave his intervention and Claudia is crying telling him how she loves him best, but that if he keeps drinking she can't see him anymore.

Grey's Anatomy is my favorite show, but I was so glad when Denny died, I couldn't take seeing his icky unshaven face every week.
Seriously..Izzy was in there playing Scrabble or whatever with him all the time, she couldn't take 5 minutes to give him a shave? ;)

thought of a couple more-

the episode of 'news radio' after phil hartman was murdered. the staff has to convince andy dick's character that it realy happened:guilty:

the episode of 'wkrp in cincinatti' that dealt with the death of the who fan's was very touching.

for us 'older folks':rotfl2: watching the episode of sesame street where they have to explain to big bird about mr. hooper's death was very memorable.

on a lighter note, but still sad for me-the episode 'farewell my little viking' on 'the adventures of pete and pete', where artie ('the strongest man in the world') tells little pete that because he's grown and matured it's time for artie to move on to another child who needs him.:thumbsup2

I was crying like a baby during this episode!!

Probably the last episode of Family Ties. I loved that show.

I would say for me it was Bobby Simone's(Jimmy Smits) death on NYPD Blue. I almost stopped watching after that. But I love the show to much and Dennis Franz.

I felt so bad for Andy, first his son, then his wife(Sylvia) and Bobby. Im glad they finally gave him a break.
