what is the rule on getting a discounted room?

We have changed our one night DVC/7 night cruise to a 5 or 6 night WDW vacation. There is no availability left except for SSR, and we don't want to have to change resorts. Plus, I am saving all of my other points for a whole family trip in 2021.
I priced out a studio at the poly (where we are starting) for the 4 nights after our DVC night and no availability.
I also looked into getting a regular room at the Poly after that first night, but as we know it is pricy, and the only rooms left with the "sun and fun" as of now are "theme park view". I have a refund coming on the cruise, but I'd rather it covered everything, and those rooms would eat up most of it.
I know there is a perk about 25% off rack rate at" DVC resorts only". Does that include the regular rooms? There are several categories with rack rate. The restrictions listed when I google it don't really specify.
Thanks.

Get a preferred room at SSR. Request Congress Park, and there is a very good chance you will get a completely refurbished room. They have completed three buildings and are working on the last one in Congress Park.
Every single thing is new, walls, floors, curtains, beds, furnishings, entire kitchen, baths. The rooms are absolutely gorgeous. The very quick walk from Congress Park to Disney Springs is very nice too.

SSR is our home and I know it is nice, but we will be having some medical supplies delivered (DH is going to be doing in-home dialysis soon which is why we canceled the cruise, until we get used to it) and it would be much easier to stay at the same resort, which is why I was asking about discounts at the Poly. Plus I dont want to use any points.

if you reserve a regular room and are staying 4 nights in studio wouldn't you have to change rooms? I agree that changing rooms will be an ordeal. My brother does in-home peritoneal dialysis and has done several trips to WDW. The amount of boxes is ALOT - they drive from MS to WDW and bring his machine. The medicl supply company ships his other supplies. A week's worth of supplies is alot and heavy. I am sure Bell Services will transfer everthing for you.

Also, I know the training is a week or so for in home (my brother did not train that long but he was an exception) and things can happen-especially with new patients. I know that spouses and other care givers can (and should) be trained at the same time the patient is trained.

Stay hydrated. My brother was not drinking enough water in August and he had an episode in the parks. He told me that it felt like he had to go to the bathroom but that was his body shutting down. They didn't need an ambulance, but they took him back to his resort and in a few hours he was okay. He said he thinks he blacked out at some point in the restroom. He also said it was totally his fault for not drinking enough water.

I hope you have a wonderful vacation.

I did find out that the discount is not for the regular poly, just dvc rooms, so there will be some type of move, unless I give up the poly studio.

Thanks for this info! I think he will be doing the in-home hemodialysis rather than peritoneal. He owns a small business so we are looking at the least invasive for him to not have issues with that. He just started dialysis a few weeks ago. He had no symptoms for the last few years except terrible bloodwork, and still has no symptoms, fatigue, etc. He drives himself to dialysis and back to work after! So we are very hopeful this will work out for us, and even that it might be every other day, but not prepared to worry about complications at sea quite yet.

The 25% off is only for the dvc rooms not the regular rooms. It also does not follow availability for point stays. You have to call member services to check availability for the discount.

I believe there are a couple of dialysis center's near wdw but the convenience of doing it while he is asleep will be so much better. I think that if you reached out to DCL they will be very helpful.
All the best,
KR

Be aware that the discount is not always available. It's only on DVC villas, not hotel rooms.

The plan is perhaps to do a quickie this fall, maybe a 3 nighter, to see how it goes. The one we canceled was a 7 night and there are too many unanswered questions right now with PIF coming up.
