What is the purpose of DVC Guide?

Hi Everyone,

My family purchased into DVC via resale over the Summer. We never had a Guide assigned to us until just a few days ago. Although I spoke with her for about 10 minutes, I still don't understand the actual purpose of having a Guide.

Not to sound selfish, but what can my Guide do for me???

Thanks,

Evan

I think guide is just a fancy name for salesperson. Some people seem to have relationships with their guides but we just get occasional notices of sales. I've never actually talked to our guide (we bought resale).

A DVC Guide's main purpose is to sell you points. You are assigned one even after resale because you may add-on in the future. You can also use your guide as a source to answer questions you may have about DVC but personally over the last 14 years the only contact I have had with guides is for the purpose of a sale.

Last year my guide sent me a Christmas ornament, I thought that was pretty cool!

No ornament this year though. Besides that, not a whole lot to report about me and my guide. I have never really met her in person.

They're just salespeople. You call them if you want to buy more points. For reservations and questions about how to use your points, call member services. For issues with loan or dues payments, call member accounting.

I bought my points 9 years ago, and i haven't spoken with my guide since then.

My guide is awesome. She is always there to answers questions or try to help with any issues we have. We are lucky since we live within 15 mins of the DWTD and can stop in for a quick disney fix whenever we're at the mall.

It really depends on who you get as a guide. I believe that DVC wants your guide to be the ones described as a person that will answer questions for you, that is your main point of contact if you have questions about your membership (not reservations or accounting or something, but just membership)...which ours is. If we have a question about our membership, they will answer it or find the answer for us. Even if we have a problem on site, my guide will help follow up to make sure that it was corrected, he is a carreer Disney cast member and was not hired as a DVC sales person, like many of the newer guides.

Unfortunately, they have gone to hiring a lot of sales people from outside of Disney and stuck them in the guide positions. Especially in the Doorway locations, some of the guides may have little knowledge of WDW or DVC as a whole. Our Guide is not only a salesperson, but also a member....he is upfront and honest with all of his answers. Now, that doesn't mean we didn't have to ask questions, you can't expect someone to cover every possible scenario and you will always learn more, but he didn't use false or misleading information to get a sale. We do get a voicemail anytime we go to WDW wishing us a good stay and he was great with our add-on, but we don't have a lot of contact outside of that.

So, next time you are at WDW, it might be worth stopping in and talking to your guide. You might find that you have someone you can use one day for questions or concerns. It is nice to know that there is a real person that I have met that will help follow up at WDW when there is a problem, he could actually stop at a resort and not just be making calls or sending emails!

A Guide is a sales person nothing more.

As with all sales people, each will use the technique that they feel achieves their goal, to sell contracts and receive a paycheck.

I respect the job that they do and don't bother our Guide if we aren't buying additional points or referring a sale.

I personally like that Disney assigns all members a guide (salesperson) even when you purchase resale. Gives all members a contact point.:cool1::banana:
