What is the perfect amount of points to own?

This thread makes me feel so point poor!

:rotfl2:

It's just my DH and myself right now. We own 120 points, and have already burned through 2 years worth and I am already DYING to add on another contract. I think that adding another 100 - 130 would be perfect for us. I know if it was always just the two of us traveling, I would be fine with the amount we have - but DVC has brought out the generosity in me and all I want to do is share it with everyone I know!

Champagne dreams on a beer budget I suppose :crazy2:

I am with you! We have 160 points at AKV and we burn right through them! It helps that we like to go in lower point seasons, but we still talk all the time about adding on. Maybe when I finish school and go back to work!! If they do end up ever putting DVC at the Polynesian, I might have to sell a kidney!

All in all, I am so grateful to have ANY point. It was always a goal for me. For now, our 160 is perfect!

We bought a loaded contract at 320 pts plus 145 that were banked.

We hit that number (320) based on how many pts it would be for us to stay at the resort/room type and length we wanted.

The kids are young right now (7,3) and we choose bay lake studio for the convenience. But as they get older and more mobile/less stroller reliant, and req more room, we could move toward other resorts with less pnt/room cost ratios.

The banked pts are there incase we do a larger family trip and need a 2bdr somewhere.

We have 350, and it really isn't enough. With four kids aged 4-11, we have to get a 2-bedroom when we travel. With our jobs, we can only travel in June and July. Since we have to compress all vacations for the entire year into those two months, we try to do 2 weeks at DVC when we go. 350 is only enough to go 2 out of every 3 years so we are looking to add on so that we can every year, Our kids are the perfect ages for this for a few more years. We may unload some in the future, although the idea of spending a few months in retirement sounds fantastic!

We originally bought 150 pts. at OKW, added another OKW 150 pts. resale, then a few years ago we added 150 pts. resale at BWVs, all with the same UY so we are at 450 pts. and I think we are done. We are always in "borrowing" mode but it is manageable. We will rent points if we absolutely need a "fix" and don't have the points.

As said before, it is what you feel you can afford in maintenance fees, not how many points you want or need.

We have 200 and I want more more more!!! But I always want more Disney. I would go once a month if I could. As it is, we go 3 times a year.

But my kids are 6 and 4 and we fit in a studio still. I would love to be able to stay in a one or 2 bedroom, though, and not be so squished.

So I definitely want more points, I don't know if there will ever be a magical number of "enough".

We own 1,410 and between family, friends and such we run out to quickley. I think the more points you own the larger unit you book and need more points. My wife and I love a 1 bedroom unit at OKW adn or BW. A 2 bedroom with friends and family eats up lots of points.

WOW! I would love to own that many points. We have 250 BCV and it will have to do for now with one daughter in her first year of college and the other starting in September, both private colleges...CHA-CHING$$$$$$$$$. We will absolutely add more points eventually though!

We are in the same boat. One daughter in her first year of college and the other starting end of August. Only difference is they are both going to state schools. Still is a lot $$$$$. We want more points too! Waiting to hear back about a resale now....

Wishing you luck with your purchase!

We have 380 points. 150 at SS, 50 at BCV, 80 at VWL & 100 at AK. We would love to buy more! Waiting for GF!

There is no such thing as the perfect amount of points! :rotfl2:

Let's talk about points and the cost of ownership...

Clearly, we are all Disney nuts...

And the cost of ownership is a minor symptom of being a Disney nut! HAHA

We stopped at a DVC Kiosk on our honeymoon in 2006 - were :scared1: over the price of owning DVC.

However, let's just put it out there that 2007 is the ONLY year we didn't go to WDW since we got married in 2006.

So from October of 2006 to September of 2008 I researched, researched, and researched more about what DVC ownership offers, how to use it, what to think about when buying, where to own.... blah blah blah....

So we stopped by the DVC Desk at WL on our first day and scheduled a tour.

We thought that 260 would be the perfect number of points for us, and that would be all we would ever need.

However, just look at my signature line :lmao:

We have added on to our membership three times, for a total of four home resorts, with at least 200 points at three of the four. :scratchin

However, we have reached the point that we do indeed own 'enough'... for now. I would love to own points at VGF.... but I really don't think that's a possibility - and we own BLT, so one monorail resort is enough, right? :rolleyes2

FUN FUN FUN!

We love being DVC members, and know it will serve us well for many years to come!

Enough points to go to WDW twice a year for 10 days each trip.

When I figure the correct number I'll let you know. It really is hard to figure the perfect number of points when sometimes it's only the two of us and other times we have guests (anywhere from five to eighteen at a time). :confused3

This is exactly the problem we have. The trips are never the same... always different times of year with different people. We always like to stay different places, in different room sizes etc etc.

It makes it tough to figure out. But, oh - what a good problem to have ;)

We have 235 at BWV and 150 at AKV. To my family it's enough. To me, not so much!:rotfl2: Maintenance fees are getting out of hand, so no more add-on's for us though. Our UY is October and it works out perfectly since we like to travel November/December and February and April.

We are in a perpetual state of borrowing, thereby allowing us 3/4 vacations a year. We usually do one 5/6 night and then a few 3/4 night trips. I realize people don't like to borrow, but to us it's really silly not to.
My DH and I will be over 80 when BWV runs out and over 90 when AKV expires:scared1: Our kids will be in their 50's and 60's, so we will have had a lifetime (we've owned for 13 years) of Disney vacations and our children (and one day their children) will have had very many years of enjoying DVC as well.

So basically the 385 works great for us. Next February I got 3 studio's at the BWV for 5 nights for ourselves, our children and our friends to celebrate a special occassion, we would not be able to do such a thing if it wasn't for our DVC:cool1:

Happy Planning!

We only have 170 @ BLT. I am always borrowing from the next year so I know i need more. I also bought for 1 BR stays for a family of 5. Well now, we're a family of 6 do we need enough points for a 2BR.

I'm ok with a stay every year. 2 would be great but since DH refuses to drive, it is kinda expensive to fly 6 people over from Chicago to Florida.

Tried buying from resale this year at OKW but was ROFRd, so bought another TS instead :(

Tough question!

We have 250 BWV and 125 BLT.

That started as 210 BWV original buy-in (by my parents) back in 1998. Then, they added 40 points somewhere in 1999-2000 to get to 250. That had to do with getting a 2-bedroom for a week in certain seasons.

We added 75 to BLT in 2010 after having visited in 2007, 2009 and early 2010.
We then added 50 more to BLT in 2011 jumping on a great resale to beat the change in how they're treated.

After staying at BLT, I want to own more points there. We did the 75 thinking a studio week every other year would be fine. We added the 50 because it came up at the right time - but didn't really get us much. It allowed us a week in a 1BR select seasons every other year and to get a full 5 days in a MK view 2BR in the lowest year. But, we really need 50-75 more to successfully managed every other year at BLT.

The reality is, when we go, we usually stay 10-14 days, not just 5-7. So that doesn't help either.

Once my parents no longer travel frequently and they don't use their BWV points, I'm not sure how the 375 will pan out as I still want more at BLT and possibly less at BWV.

Our situation has been perfect for the last few years.
We have 660 pts. at BLT for trips with the grand kids and 300 pts. at BCV for MY trips.
I have been very happy with the way this has worked out.

We just closed on our first add-on (still waiting for points to load). I thought our original amount of 200 would be enough. Now, we just added 100 more - somehow I don't think it will be enough. For now, it may be. But I do believe adding on is a disease and I just had my first case. :rotfl2:

300 is perfect for us (200 SSR and 100 AKV), as a family of 3. We definitely use them up, and sometimes we have guests along, but I don't want any more points than that because I would rather keep our money free for other types of vacations. And I really don't want the hassle of renting our points out.

We have 690 points. ( We originally purchased 170 and added on). It works for us. We take several WDW trips a year, cruise every other year, and have treated extended family. Now that we have a new grandson I can't wait to take my oldest son and his family. I've treated my other son and his fiancee and my daughter and her friends. We love being able to share our DVC with others and still have enough for ourselves.
