What is the perfect amount of points to own?

Good for you! What a great life style. Wish we could take a long vacation but DW works in a Hospital in a critical care unit and cannot get off more than 6 days in a row and with DS entering college - first year at $59K and his senior year cost projected to be $70K (and they notified us we get no financial aid since we have a lot of equity in our house), we are cancelling vacations, charity donations, no more car purchases, dinners out for the next 4 years because the total college bill will be about $260,000. Just hope he can actually find a job after all that. Of course if we did not work, he would get full aid at the same college. What a joke.

One DD in freshman year at college, 2nd high school senior this year. So both will be in next year. Neither looked at private colleges because we would not qualify for financial aid either. Both going to state schools for about $20K a year. Still a lot with two in school.

Understand. He got into UCONN with a scholarship so it would only cost us about $18K, but he does not like UCONN and its the general rule in the high school that kids there do not go to the state school, only private schools. Its all about parent bragging rights in our town. And DW wants him to go wherever he wants. The alternate school, Georgia Tech in the Honors Program, is where I want him to go and am hoping he chooses in the end.

I understand that. Hopefully he will choose Georgia! We live in a small town with no bragging rights - so that wasn't a concern. A lot of it depends on what they want to major in. Our older DD is already considering changing her major. Our younger DD has no idea what she wants to do. So, in their case a state school is best.

We have 150 right and want to get 100 more. Family of 4, not needing the 2nd bedroom as of yet. Our youngest is in a pack and play still so she is with us in the one bedroom and our son is on a pullout in the living room.

250 will give us either a 2 bedroom villa or a second trip every year for just the wife and I.

Sounds good! We went twice and stayed in deluxe room at Contemporary and then Wilderness Lodge with our family of five and felt cramped. When we bought in our first stay was with developer points at SSR in a 2 bedroom. That spoiled us! Although, when we bought we figured we would use our points for a one bedroom at AKV because of having the pull out chair. We could do that if we wanted a second trip or extend our trip. But, so far we haven't. We have 200 and want 100 more too!

Yes Georgia Tech told him he can change his major (either going for Computer Science or Engineering) as much as he wants prior to starting and then one free change in Freshman Year. Kids down there we met changed majors 2-3 times.

And in the Honors program, he has regular luncheons with Deans, lecturers, etc..., a private Honors dorm, a faculty mentor and they really nurture them the first year. He would be crazy to pass it up, but kids are crazy. At least he is not selecting a college because of their party reputation.

Wow, that Honors Program sounds really nice! That also makes me feel good about other kids changing majors too. I told our DD that we would not be upset or disappointed if she changed. They are so young to pick what they want to do for the rest of their lives. Wish my DD was having that great of an experience her freshman year....Luckily, our kids are not partiers either...

perfect amount is what you can afford to pay in MF every year.

I think all of us have no trouble using the points so we never have enough.:rotfl2: and always want more.....

we have 450...have done 4 add on's....this seems perfect for us.

I like going to the DVC resorts enough that I could use all of the points that I could afford. I enjoy bringing the extended family and friends. BTW, it has nothing to do with Kool Aid some refer to here, I love going to my Cape May house and inviting extended family and friends. Sadly, few people come to visit me in Ohio!:confused3

There is no perfect number for me. We own around 1200 and we will buy some at the Grand Floridian.

Bobbi:)

I would come visit you in Ohio just saying:wave2:

It really is great, but it took lots of planning and saving. I'm retired military (33 years) so the pension helps but we planned and saved for about 5 years to make it happen.

The best thing is enjoying friends and family like we never did before. About 6 months of the year we are in 2-3 bedroom timeshares and open up the extra room for friends and family to join us (at no cost except for food) and they do! Plus, we cruise twice a year with friends, and a 2 more by ourselves.

I left the Air Force very banged up. I was rated at 90% disabled, following 10 surgeries in the last 2 1/2 years I was in. After 8 months of living like this I've almost totally reverse my physical condition.

I exercise about 2 hours a day and my wife is training for a triathlon and exercises 3-4 hours a day.

My stress level is about zero and we have become very spontaneous. Not something I've been know for in the past.

The best thing is living in all of your favorite vacation spots and moving on when you get the slightest bit boring. We love Hilton Head Island but after a month I get bored with it so we move on to our next favorite spot.

We been at Disneyworld since Jan 9th and we are still enjoying ourselves. We are here until April 25th then we head out to Disneyland for 10 days and Aulani for 5 weeks.

It is great for us because our adult children (25 - 23) aren't married and we don't have any grandchildren yet (hopefully some day) so we have no obligations. We sold our home, put our furniture into storage and are carefree without any bills except for maintenance fees (paid automatically out of savings account put aside for them)

I tell people that we eloped after 34 years of marriage. I feel 10-15 years younger.

I highly recommend it! :yay:

Good for you thank you for your military service - I can only hope to spend 1/2 the time at the world. Enjoy!

We went through the same scenario 2 in college one more in the fall - DH and I sat them down and said "this is what is put away for college fund for you - if you need more you need to take out a loan- if there is left over its yours." All have enough saved for 4+ years in a state school its their choice but I feel we did our job saving now the rest is up to how much debt they want after college. Oldest DD owes, middle will be able to get her masters and be fine - no debt at all not sure about youngest still deciding! I told them they are not messing with my vacation funds :rotfl2: and they actually agree because they like to travel just as much!:lmao:

We currently have 285 BLT points, 160 SSR and a contract pending for 200 BWV. My goal is to increase BLT to 500 points and possibly BWV to 400 but if they build a Ft. Wilderness then all bets off!

150 is too many for us.

100 seems about right for us.

We can stay 3 times in 2 years if we alternate between standard and boardwalk views, stay in the off season in a studio.

I'm sure if we needed to stay in a 1 bedroom over Christmas, we would need much more!

I did go through a stage of addonitis...but am now glad that we stayed with just the 100 points. We won't sell, and will only add if our vacation habits change.

I believe that the perfect number of points is 345! That's my story and I'm sticking to it until my next add-on. :earboy2:

This thread makes me feel so point poor!

:rotfl2:

It's just my DH and myself right now. We own 120 points, and have already burned through 2 years worth and I am already DYING to add on another contract. I think that adding another 100 - 130 would be perfect for us. I know if it was always just the two of us traveling, I would be fine with the amount we have - but DVC has brought out the generosity in me and all I want to do is share it with everyone I know!

Champagne dreams on a beer budget I suppose :crazy2:

For us, it is turning out the perfect amount of points is about 25 points more than we have at the moment. :-)

Just completed our third add-on...started with 150 and its crept up little by little to 225. Those numbers are working for us currently, but...next I'm after a small add on at Grand Californian (now that we live closer to Disneyland than WDW). They are hard to come by, but the wait will give me time to save up!

I may have already posted in this thread, but I would love to have 400 points for personal use (wouldn't mind another 400 to rent, but that's NOT likely to happen). We have 375...200 OKW, 100 AKV and 75 HH. Would rather it be either divided some way between BWV, AKV and HH (all with Aug UY)...or 100 each of BWV, AKV, OKW and HH. DH is not up for any changes to the current DVC structure though, as going from what we have to what I want would cost more $$$. At the very least, I think I'll squeeze another 25 HH points out of him and get to my 400.

I have 460. This will be the first year since I purchased in 2009 that I will have any left over to bank. So I think 460 is just about perfect for me and my kids. Even though there are only three of us, we usually get a one bedroom. This summer we're actually getting a Tree House & we'll each have our own bedroom, which will be a real treat. Time will tell if we invite anyone to join us...who knows? Oh, I should mention, I have 360 points at BLT & 100 at AKV. We use the AKV points for a three day weekend in a one bedroom on concierge level every other year.

I have 360 and seem to not only use them all every year but constantly borrow! For now it seems the right amount as I wouldn't want to increase my maintenance fees. But I love my DVC!:yay:
