What is the back story or history behind the new DCA restaurant? Why did they choose this theming?
THX! It's been really bugging me. Lol

The Carthay Circle Theater hosted the premier of "Snow White and the Seven Dwarves." At the time, it was the height of movie theater coolness, but it has since been torn down.

Since Buena Vista Street is supposed to be the Hollywood of Walt Disney's early career, they decided to include the theater, but turned it into a restaurant. The inside has Snow White styled murals, and lots of memorabilia from the movie and the premier.

I'm sure someone else can shed more light on the details, but that's the gist of it!

I was just there a couple of days ago, and I read on the menu that it was the original theater where Snow White premiered. Since Snow White was the first Disney movie, it was a big deal. I don't recall seeing any Snow White murals inside the restaurant, but maybe I missed something. I do recall seeing old photos of the inside of the original theater -- Disney did a GREAT job of re-creating the look. The wood paneling on the walls looked exactly like the photos. They even re-created the light fixtures!

The other posters are correct. The Carthay was the theatre that hosted the premiere for Snow White. The inside of the replica in DCA is a restaurant with a lounge and a private club.
There are many pictures of Walt. One that I loved was of him and a young Shirley Temple.
As for murals I don't remember any. But one painting that might be described as a mural is the painting next to the stair way up to the restaurant. It is a copy of the painting that adorned the curtain at the theatre at the time of the premiere. :tink:

The murals are on the main dining room ceiling. They don't have Snow White IN them, but they are done in the same style as the wishing well scenes in the film. Here's a great blog post with some photos, which is where I got most of this info!

There's a picture of the murals quite a ways down. Also lots of great pics of the memorabilia, etc. Really fun!
