I think it's a three letter abbreviation, like BDU or something?

and if you haven't ever tasted a MRE I don't recommend them unless you have a lot of tabasco sauce or just pick the candy out

BDU = Battle Dress Uniform, so you were close :)

Ever seen that Danny DeVito movie where he becomes a teacher at an Army base ? There's a joke in there about the extreme overuse of acronyms by the military that is SOOOO true ::yes::

Believe it or not, we take MREs snorkeling. They are waterproof
and allow us to stay in the water all day, dragging our lunch
in a French grocery bag/net. We just crawl up on a beach and
eat. Some of them are good. We test them each time we go
because the availabilty changes and so do the meals. Each comes with toilet paper, tiny little bottle of tabasco, drink mix
and dessert of some kind. we use em for fuel and I would not want to have them for a steady diet.

usually 2 or 3 times a year our FRG (family readiness group) has an MRE "cookout" for the kids in our company. The kids love these things especially watching them "cook" on a rock when you add the water and set them up on angle like the diagram shows. I tease my Dh about having to have the picture of the correct way to put the MRE against a rock for cooking.

They are good!! My preferences are cheese tortellini, and chicken with noodles. If you take the cheese from your crackers you can mix it with the chicken and it's good!

Then, you can use the cocoa to make pudding...

There's a million MRE recipes!
