What is the Mom's Panel?

I've heard a lot about the Mom's Panel, but I still don't quite get what it is. We have been in the last 12 months and actually will be there over the trip time. What do you have to do while you are there?
If I already have a trip planned and paid for, will they reimburse some of it?
What else do I have to do?
