What is the latest with Splash Mt.?

The announcement about it changing was pre-mature (I’m 100% certain if the pandemic never happened it would of been announced at the D23 event that would of happened this summer) that said I can see their goal to have it done or at least started by the films 15th anniversary in 2023

Looks like Disneyland CA will change splash mountain first and then WDW at a later date. They will probably keep it open at WDW until the 50th anniversary is open and then close it down. This will be a great time for merch for the ride. So it probably be open until end of 2022 I would guess and then a 18-24 month refurb, just my view ty

Not that WDW cares about my opinion, but I've often wondered why the rumored Princess and The Frog satisfies both the inclusion and "Frontier" element of Frontierland. I'm all up for a whole new story at SM and with a story that is based upon the Mexcian Baja Mountain, like Cerro Prieto, and add some IP (Coco?) with the new story and let it rip. I don't really need a re-telling of a movie. I'm up for a new adventure. I think that's why I liked RoTR so much. That's pretty close to California and a Frontier themed consistent with the land itself. But, if the SM is going to be changed to telling Tiana's story in the Bayou and New Orleans, then that seems thematically out of place with Frontierland.

Naturally, if with a Tiana theme ride there is a beniegh stand outside of the attraction, to heck with theming and give me Tiana till my belly is going to burst.

Yeah, I like the idea of doing it as Princess and the Frog at Disneyland since it's adjacent to New Orleans Square (though it basically reduces Critter Country to one ride), but to do something different at WDW. I'm not saying don't change it, but just change it to something else. I like how we now have Tower of Terror at WDW and Guardians of the Galaxy at DLR - it gives me a reason to go to both!

Couldn't agree more. Variety is good. I think expanding horizons with the rides to tell new stories or adventures of these characters are good. It's why I think FEA is groovy as an attraction, even though Frozen is one of my least favorite Disney franchises.

Am I the only one the feels like they are dropping the ball by not having a "Tiana's place" table service with a beignets counter outside?
Replace Tony's in Town Square and make this a reality. THIS, along with my brilliant idea of a dinner and cruise package where you eat at Skipper's Canteen and then have an exclusive JC ride with your server as your captain along with the other tables he/she served. Come'on WDW let's go!

I agree with these. Princess and the Frog works well for DL with it being adjacent to New Orlean's Square, and the rumored focus being on Louie and the animals in the bayou it still works well with Critter Country too. But this is completely out of place for Frontierland. If they want to change it I think they should adapt the old Western River Expedition idea that was originally planned for Frontierland and convert Splash Mountain into it. This would revive an old idea and fit in well thematically. It doesn't have an IP attached now but with the new movies like Jungle Cruise and the SEAS show coming to Disney+ they could wrap it into that and it could potentially become a new IP for them. Work it into Thunder Mesa and be able to tell a story more and you have a big story to draw for movies and/or Disney+ shows between it, Big Thunder Mountain, and Phantom Manor.
And as mentioned by BrianL, having different themes at the different parks makes people want to travel to each to ride the different one versus the same thing at each park.

As far as I can recall, there's not a lot of waterfalls and drops in the bayous around New Orleans. In fact, it was pretty flat. Now, change the theme to something else and give the ole Princess and the Frog their own water based dark ride, but maybe come up with something else for Splash Mountain.

It was announced at D32 2019 that the new DVC resort Reflections was going to have Tiana’s Place but COVID happened and the project got shelved if not completely scrapped

Pretty sure the timing of the announcement was more about the "woke" culture and Disney wanting to show their support to events happening elsewhere in the country and less to do with whether the timing made sense.

I had argued at the time (my post is probably still around) that it was terrible stupid timing for their PR department.

* Announcing it and doing the change at a time when they were bleeding money and couldn't keep CM's would have looked horrible.
* Announcing it and doing it a year later (which is what is happening) is not a good idea because it really doesn't support the movement and the change becomes disconnected from the announcement / news.
* Announcing it and then cancelling it because priorities change and plans change (which could still happen - in this world, you hardly know what next week looks like and a reskin of a ride can easily get cancelled) certainly does nothing to benefit the movement and makes you look like you are making empty promises just to get in the spotlight.

In other words, there was absolutely NO GOOD OUTCOME for Disney by announcing it at that time. It was a PR disaster and the person who decided to announce it so that Disney could jump in the spotlight and go "yeah. Us too. We support the movement" should have been fired.
