What is the HUGE deal with straws?!?!?

I rarely order from Amazon and I have my own reusable straws and a straw brush to clean them !!

You know I just thought of another wasteful thing- all the water and soap being used to clean these reusable straws which should be cleaned after every usage otherwise Not to mention the reusable drink containers

Do these lids work on the paper cups ok? I can only imagine them squishy the tops, but if they work I'm all in.
