What is the etiquette re: lines?

This post made me laugh out loud. Also made me remember when I visited a European country that was not a strong queuing culture. It was normal for people to step ahead of others in line if even a small gap opened up, with no embarrassment or offense taken. At one point, the line was moving backwards because so many people had filled in the gaps, and I realized i had to be more aggressive there. People definitely had no issues there having one person in line later joined by 10 others, but I can now just laugh at my sense of rage at the time!
I have noticed that with some foreign guests at WDW. We have used our family to purposely block the queue so they cannot cut. I understand that it is a cultural thing, but that is not how it works at WDW.

When I visited Sea World in San Diego back in 2019 some family snuck under the ropes in front of me. They weren’t meeting anyone in the line. They were just being inconsiderate jerks. Line cutters are my worst pet peeve at any park. It’s one thing for a parent and child to meet the other parent in line, but if the whole family is cutting together, that’s just a jerk move. I wish employees would enforce a no cutting rule.

A couple years ago I had the STRANGEST experience with "cutters." There was a family a few switchbacks back. Two of their sons were being super obnoxious, but my tolerance can be pretty high at Disney. They are kids having fun. The kids were probably like 7? 10? I don't have kids so I'm terrible with ages. But then, the kids started like ...sneaking in front of other groups every few minutes. The parents and the rest of the group? Nothing. They just stayed where they were watching their kids....until the kids were completely out of sight. They ended up riding before by themselves? It was so strange and they were SO young. Their family just did not care at all.

I have seen that too at WDW, but thankfully only once. There were three youngish adults who were snaking through the queue at Big Thunder Mountain railroad. At first, I thought they were trying to catch up with their party (as is the case being discussed in most of this thread). Then I realized they were actually just casually cutting, because they’d only move head by a few people when the line moved and there was space, and then stopped. Before I knew it, they had moved around me, and the man in front turned to them and said, “absolutely not.” I don’t think they even realized that they had broken any rules because they just continued chatting happily with each other after that.

Of course, now, i was stuck behind them and wanted to tell them off. But had to remind myself I was on vacation and it really wasn’t worth it.
