What is the difference between Beach Club and Yacht Club?

AFAIK at YC all the rooms have full balconies regardless of category.
Yes you are almost 100% correct.

There is one well know CL room (5163) that does not have a balcony of any type at the YC due to the roof line / architectural features. It does have a set of windows along the side overlooking the gazebo where weddings often take place.

Man there's some quirky little things about those resorts. :) I booked Standard View at BC and was put in a corner King room that was right up against the YC side. One of my windows had the infamous horrible roof view but the other overlooked SAB and the Boardwalk, it was gorgeous.

With due respect that's a long time ago in Disney years. Depending on when in 2017 you stayed, YC's QS was revamped since then and is limited but pretty decent for what it is. My BC stay was this past November and most times I went down to fill my mug there was nobody even manning that sad little counter. What was there was limited and looked pitiful. Les Halles was my breakfast spot that whole weekend though, because it's one of my favorites. But QS in general is severely lacking in that area imo, and it's the one reason I could never stay there longer than a weekend despite otherwise enjoying the resort and the Boardwalk area in general. I love Les Halles to death but sometimes you just want a quick bite without going into a park.

I can't really speak to the buses, tbh. I never take them at rope drop because I don't trust them, and only took 2 buses the entire time I was there since I mostly went to Epcot and HS. Even when I spent one late afternoon/night at MK for the first Xmas party, I hopped there from Future World so I took the monorail. Coming back from the party I did bus it and we shared with YC and were dropped off last. Coming back mid afternoon from AK we also shared and were dropped off last. But it wasn't bad. The only thing that was super annoying was DME on the way in--that was the longest ride I ever took on it, we stopped at CBR before we even got to the Crescent Lake resorts, and of course BC was last. Took forever.
Interestingly enough, it was also our longest trip on DME, but that was due to the bus breaking down on the way there and being stuck on the side of the highway for an hour or so.

Yeah, if the QS was revamped, then we hadn’t experienced that. We mostly used it for breakfast, and were surprised that they only had simple breakfasts (at least at the time) and not the platters we were used to at the other hotels. Did they also include any seating areas? That was the other thing we found missing (again, at the time).

And of course, don’t get me wrong, I would love to stay at the YC again. Not knocking on the resort at all. Just relaying our experiences, and making sure people know they can get alternatives at the BC, and not wait till nearly the last day like we did.

Yacht Club also does not have DVC rooms, which may be why some find it to be on the quieter side. We prefer the look and feel of Beach Club better - beachy, light colors, airy feel. Yacht Club is more nautical and regal if that makes sense lol. You can't go wrong with either though.

Have stayed in both. They're the same building and basic construction, so their wall thinness/soundproofing is the same and any noise you will hear (or not hear) is dependent upon your neighbors. Had horrendous noise from the hallway (screaming, running kids at 7:30 a.m. several mornings) at BC but never heard a peep from the room next to me at either BC or YC.

As stated, many more rooms at YC have full balconies than at BC. Also, YC has laminate flooring, BC has carpet. I think they're both lovely, but decor preference is a personal thing, so take a look online and see which you like best.

Overall, YC is a much quieter, 'adult' resort IMO, but at the same time, my kids LOVED YC's theming when they were young. The lobby at YC is really relaxing, peaceful, and beautiful. BC's lobby is gorgeous as well, but the vibe there is much more active due to Cape May's proximity (and the resulting guests waiting for their ADR seating).

BC is a little closer to Epcot, but YC is not so far away that it's a detriment. The boat to Epcot and HS is closer to YC, but also is not so far away from BC that it's a detriment. The resorts are also an easy walk to the other, so it's simple to visit to check out the gift shop, have dinner, etc.

Our preference is YC, but we would happily stay at BC without a second thought.

I have never found this to be true. Families and kids stay at both resorts. We had absolutely no noise in the hall while staying at Beach Club, and we've seen the same amount of kids around during our stays at Yacht Club.

For everything you could possibly want to know about the YC and BC, I suggest you visit the YC/BC thread. You should be able to find great comparison info there, as well as lots of photos. Start on page one. Any questions will be gladly answered by the friendly regulars.

Thanks for posting the link for the Yacht & Beach Club FAQ page. Here is the summary in the first post of the differences between the two resorts.

What are the differences between the Beach Club and the Yacht Club?

The Beach Club and Yacht Club are similar resorts in terms of service and amenities, and have equal access to the shared pool complex, health club and video arcade. Both resorts have the same management team in place.

Some minor differences have been noted by guests:

Beach Club- club level lounge renovated in 2014, room renovations completed in August 2015
Lighter, beachy décor in lobby and rooms
Lobby can be active and lively with families waiting for meals at Cape May
Closer to EPCOT and Marketplace Gift Shop
Approximately 50% of rooms in all room categories have full balconies. The remaining are standing balconies.
Room attributes include carpets on floor, ceiling fans*, Cuisinart Pod Coffee Makers *ceiling fans may be in the process of being removed from rooms at the BC (2018)
Shared resort bus picks up and drops off at YC first

Yacht Club- renovations to club level lounge started October 2015, room renovations completed in June 2017
Darker woods and nautical décor in lobby and rooms
Lobby is more serene
Convention attendees are more likely to be booked at YC
Closer to Hollywood Studios and Friendship Boats
Most rooms have a full balcony (exceptions: 5163, 4163, 3163, 2163 and 1163)
Room attributes include wood floors, lots of storage units, Keurig coffee makers. No ceiling fans in rooms following the rehab.
The Market at Ale & Compass is smaller and offers different quick serve food items than the Beach Club Marketplace.
Shared resort bus usually picks up and drops off at the YC first

* Starting in October 2017, pet dogs are now being welcomed in guest rooms at the Yacht Club resort. Additional information posted at the beginning of this post.

A little additional information- Room 5163 is Club Level Waterview room at YC.

::yes::

Unless I missed it, I don't think anyone's yet mentioned the most important difference - BC is closer to Epcot! It's a small difference, and I don't mind walking (we prefer walking to HS vs. taking the boat, for intstance), but we only stayed at YC once because it was a 12-15 minute walk to Epcot from our room - at BC we have never had more than a 5-6 minute walk to Epcot. That matters to me :)

But all the DVC villas are in a separate building at BC, so it's not like they are down one hall or one floor mixed in with hotel rooms.

I'm aware. DVC villas are larger which can mean more people per villa, which can translate to more people in common areas and more people spending time at the resort itself. Beach Club also has more rooms than Yacht Club when you include the villas.

BCV is one of the smaller DVC resorts.

Yacht Club has their own market now, so both YC and BC have quick service options. Every time I've stayed at BC, the buses stopped at YC first and then dropped off BC. One difference is that some Yacht Club rooms may have walk in showers now, some of the newer pictures show a shower instead of a bathtub. Another big difference is the balcony situation that others have mentioned. You are more likely to get a balcony at YC than BC. I think overall the feel of the resorts is different, BC is much more lively in the lobby and has more families from what I have seen. Both have the great pool area and the walkability to EP and HS can't be beat!
