What is the difference between a one bedroom lock off and a one bedroom dedicated?

I was looking at the VWL room map that was posted on another post. I don't understand the differnce between a lockoff or dedicated. Can someone explain it to me?

A lock off connects to a studio and both the one bedroom and studio can be reserved individually or as a two bedroom. A dedicated does not have any studio connected to it to make a two bedroom. A dedicated two bedroom cannot be broken into a studio and one bedroom. There is only one entrance to a dedicated two bedroom. There is no kitchenette in the second bedroom in a dedicated two bedroom.

The lock-off studio (which functions as the 2nd B/R in a 2-R/R layout), has an extrance to the outside, the kitchenette, and a pass through double-door to the Living room area of the 1-B/R villa.

In a dedicated 2-B/R, the 2nd B/R is the same floorplan (dimensions) as the Lockoff/Studio, but without the outside entrance or the kitchenette area. Instead of those, it has more closet space. It has a single passthrough door to the Living Room area.

Slightly off subject - in a lock off two bedroom are there always two balconies- one for the studio and one for the 1 BR? Am trying to decide which to request at OKW -- If I remember correctly the dedicated 2 BR has a huge closet in the second bedroom where the door would normally go outside. This might be a good place to set up the pack and play (with the closet door open of course) to keep it out of the line of traffic. On the other hand a second balcony might be nice also. Since they are just requests we will be happy either way but really think the lack of an outside door to the ssecond bedroom with a toddler and 4 year old might be the best bet.

The studio balcony is very small. If you are on the first floor at OKW, it is usually surrounded by foilage. I would request a dedicated 2 bedroom if you have small children.

I prefer a dedicated 1 bedroom or studio (BWV has both), in a lockoff noise tends to come through the door.

Actually, dedicated and lockoff are not requests, they are a reservable room class, at least as "reservable" as possible under Disney's system, unless a unit goes out of service for some reason. If your confirmation letter states "Two Bedroom", you are supposed to get a dedicated. If it states "Lock-Off" you are supposed to get a "Lock-Off", again assuming normal circumstances and that a unit isn't taken out of service.

I agree, with little kids a dedicated two bedroom is the way to go.

The only real difference between a one-bedroom which is "dedicated" and one which is part of a two-bedroom lockoff is with the lockoff there is the door which can be used to interconnect it with a studio.

Otherwise, the unit is the same.

Thank you all so much for your answers. So it sounds like if I am reseaving a one bedroom then it really doesn't make much difference to me. I still have 10 months until my first trip and I can't stop thinking and planning - LOL. I think its going to be a loooonnnggg 10 months

This is good news for me, I think. In general, I'm not going to be needing two-bedroom units. However, I have an upcoming trip (too far out to reserve yet) where I will be traveling with two friends. I don't want anyone to have to share a bed, and I don't want anyone to sleep on a sofa bed. Therefore, I'm going to be reserving a two-bedroom unit even though a two-bedroom for three people is kind of overkill. However, it was my biggest fear that after spending all those points for a two-bedroom, I could still get a villa with only two beds total rather than three. But if I understand your post correctly, I should be able to guarantee (to the extent possible, but this is more than just a request) a two-bedroom villa with three beds. Is that right?

Yes, that is correct. Also any two bedroom unit at OKW will have a King bed, living room sleeper sofa and 2 queen beds in the 2nd bedroom as all OKW studios have 2 queen beds.

Well, I have a 2 bedroom SV reserved at BWV in October, and all it says is 2 bedroom, standard. I have a 2 bedroom reserved at VWL in August and all it says is 2 bedroom also. Since all 2 bedrooms at BWV are lock offs, maybe it doesn't mean anything, but at VWL it could mean dedicated or lock off. I didn't make any request.

If this is the case then anyone looking for three beds and not sofa beds should not stay in a two bedroom at BWV - I know BCV has both dedicated and lock off units and that they are listed on the reservation as dedicated if they have the 2 queen beds in the second bedroom so you have to make your need for 3 beds clear when you call for the reservation -
