What is the cost

Wow, I don't know about the LAX rates but the SNA prices are very high compared to just taking a cab for a family of 3 or 4.

In my experience for the prices above, it would be that 4th person on any trip that would tip the scales to a cab being cheaper. Uber/Lyft would be cheaper any which way, though! They used to have a "kids ride free with paying adult" that could make them cheaper than a taxi for round-trip, but it appears that may not be the case any longer.

The forum had a similar conversation a while back and I checked the prices on-line. I found that a cab is about the same price or even cheaper than Uber (lyft wasn't avail.) depending on the level of service one chooses. A large cab/van was cheaper (same price as any cab) than the same thing from Uber - and faster. Also, cabs dont charge any more for 4 people (or more) than they do for 1.

Interesting! I guess I had assumed about Uber being cheaper than taxis because... well, because that's what I thought. Great marketing? Just my imagination about hearing it was cheaper? No idea. And I know that darn surge pricing has gotten me to a rate nearly that of a taxi.

Regardless, we don't use the DLRE, but I found the current pricing interesting!

I think if you are booking a standard Uber X of Lyft it's cheaper than a than a cab, but if you want a bigger or nicer vehicle you are going to pay for it and that's where a taxi can be cheaper if you need something that seats more than 3/4 people. For me the Lyft or Uber is always cheaper than the taxi to go home since I live right by LAX and they charge a minimum fare on trips leaving LAX in a taxi and sometimes that isn't met.

We used the Disneyland Resort Express for the first time from SNA this summer and were NOT impressed. The trip to the GCH was bizarre and the trip back to the airport was even stranger. They last minute canceled one of their pickups (ours) and didn't notify us. We called and were on the phone with them for about 20 minutes trying to figure things out when the call dropped. We called again and it was another 10 -15 before they said that the bus was having issues and instead they would send a taxi for us. We got behind schedule.. but thankfully we allowed plenty of travel time so it didn't affect us too much.. it was just an inconvenience. We normally do SuperShuttle and like it so much better. The Disneyland Resort Express was a hassle. Not sure if this is all the time .. but for us it was enough to make us not want to use their services again.

Your correct; the standard service with Uber is cheaper but not by much. IIRC, it was like $5~$7 cheaper.
If you need a bigger vehicle. like a van, a taxi is cheaper (I was surprised too!).
