What is the coolest RAK (Random Acts of Kindness) seen @WDW

About five years ago my fiance and I were in the Briar Patch shop at the MK and there was little boy carrying a stuffed Tigger around the store with him. His mother took him to the side of the shop and quietly explained to him that she would love to buy it for him, but couldn't afford it. She had tears in her eyes. The little boy never complained or whined, he just sat the Tigger back on the table and took his mother's hand to walk out of the store. My fiance grabbed the Tigger and ran to the cash register. The CM rang him up and I flew out the door to catch up with the little boy. I haned it to him and said it was a gift from Mickey. The mother was crying and the little boy just stared at me in disbelief. My fiance walked out of the store and the mother hugged him. We will always remember this moment and I always get emotional when I think about it. I even have a picture of Erik and little boy together.

GET IT...What I mean is, you understand that patience and tolerance and kindness has to be given as well as received. We've always felt that we get so much more pleasure out of giving than receiving and we, too, try to hand out unused fast passes, forward lost items to L&F, etc. On our Thanksgiving trip, however, we received so many unexpected kindnesses from CM's that it made our 22nd trip to the World unbelievable! One example was from a CM by the name of Peter Olivo who was working at Festival of the Lion King show. AK was (as we all expect) very crowded because of the holiday week and we were among a group of people who waited an hour and a half for the next show. Peter began visiting with me and asked what our favorite attraction was at AK. I told him we loved the Safari but would have to forego it this trip because all the FP's were already gone for the day. A bit later Mr. Olivo left and came back with a slip of paper, asked me my name, and handed me a special FP which allowed us to go on the Safari ride. I was so stunned I got tears in my eyes! If anyone runs into Mr. Olivo at the Lion King show, please tell him he made our trip extra special because of his "magic".

The one that comes to my mind is when we were at Epcot a couple of years back with my BIL, his family and my family as well. We were buying a few pins (don't really collect them but got a few that were interesting.) Anyway, my son wanted one of those spinner Winnie the Pooh things that lights up and we decided to not buy it for him at that time. Apparently he asked the castmember in a very nice and polite fashion when he was with his cousins on the other side of the cart, if he could have it and the castmember said he was so polite and nice so he gave it to him. We saw him with it and told him to put it back, but the castmember assured him it was a 'gift' from him because our son was so nice and polite. I have to tell you it really made my son smile.

I love all you people who "get it" too...

after Spectro, two tired kids, two tired parents...and a long line up at the Bus Stop...somehow managed to get A seat - yep, one only, thank god for it!!! - DH stood and I held the kids who were just about done...a little boy - I'll never forget him - Dusty from Ohio..said to my two cranky-yanging-half asleep-nothing-is-going-to-stop-me-from-having-a-meltdown boys.."hey guys, would you like a Goofy pin..he talks like this..." and had us all giggling...

Dusty carried pixie dust in his little heart...at the end of the bus ride, we said goodbye, and Dusty told us that when he runs for President, he was going to sprinkle Pixie Dust everywhere...

I'll move to vote for him!!:sunny:

In June of 2002-My boyfriend and I took our first trip together to Disney. We had never rode TT and a nice couple gave us their FP's!
Last time I went (July of 2003) my mother and I were looking around in the gift shop in Cinderellas Castle, we began to talk to one of the CM's-i BELIEVE her name was Iliana(?) when she told us how she loved to sing. We begged with her for a few minutes to sing to us, so finally she agreed. She sang us the most beautiful rendition of "Reflections" (Mulan) that I had ever heard (blew Christina Aguilera right out of the water!!!). She brought us to tears...She truly made our trip magical, and we told her that if Disney didn't put her on stage, they were overlooking someone extremely talented!

Ya'll are some of the most amazing people. I am so touched that there is this much kindness in the world. Cinderella I cried when I read that Erik bought that Tigger for that little boy. That was wonderful!

We also pass along passes that we weren't going to use. Taken pictures of families so everyone could be in the picture. Let children sit in front of our daughters wheelchairs at the parades. Carried trays at counter services for others when they had their hands full with children, canes, wheelchairs or other things that made it difficult for them to juggle it all. We have shared stickers, toys or other things to help children pass the time while waiting. We have invited other families to go on rides with us with our passes. I hope we have also RAKed people when we didn't realize it.

That has happened to us many times. I am sure each time someone takes the time to open the door for us while we are pushing two of our daughters in their wheelchairs they thought nothing of it. To us that means more than some people will ever realize. The fact that they took notice and took the time out of their day to be helpful. The people that turned to realize they were standing in front of our daughters and blocking their view of a character, parade or show and then squatted down or stepped to the side so they could see. The people that didn't get upset when our daughters were ushered to the front of the line for a ride, show, or to see the characters but instead said you have a beautiful family, have a blessed day, Merry Christmas, Happy Birthday sweet girl and other wonderful wishes like those.

We have had many CMs take the time to come and speak to our daughters. Once again this means the world to us. They have given them stickers, pins, books and many magical moments certificates. CMs and guest who have taken our camera and taken pictures of our family with characters or in front of a special spot. The ones who rejoice in these special moments with us. The ones who get the characters together for a special photo op. The ones who are crying along with us when we share these special moments. Each time we this has happened we have gotten the CMs names and written a thank you note. We didn't realize just how much this could mean to them.

Without taking the time to write about each individual time I have a few that I would like to mention. After several trips to Disney we finally worked it out to meet "our" Prince Charming from our hometown. He called our cell phone and told us what time and where to meet him. When he came to get us it was magical in itself. He took us behind this huge door to meet some of his friends. He had prepared the meet and greet of a lifetime for us. We had lots of times for the girls to interact with the characters, get special pictures and wonderful autographs. Since then we have had several "magical" moments with him.

We were told by a special Disney friend to make sure we met Jasmine at MGM. We had tried previously and weren't able to. On a trip earlier in the year we tried early in the week and kept missing her. Later in the week we went back to MGM specifically to meet her. We asked a CM when and where we should be. She told us and we were there. The CM had called Jasmine to tell her we were waiting. Jasmine arranged a special meet and greet with her, Aladdin, Genie and Jafar. She told the girls she hoped they would stay and see her in the parade. When her car came by us during the parade she annouced to the CM "directing/annoucing" the parade that these were her very special friends. On a recent trip we were taking a break near the Great Movie Ride. Jasmine surprised us when she announced with excitement that her special angels were here. She walked over to see the girls. Along with her came Aladdin, Pinocchio, and Snow White. A very magical time. Once again she wanted to make sure we could stay for the parade. When she came by she said hello my angels and blew kisses to them. A very magical moment that will always be remembered.

We have formed some very special friendships with some of the CMs just within the past year. Some of the most wonderful ones have been at Epcot. Each time we visit Epcot we have a special CM friend we always visit. On one of our trips we stopped in to see her. We were told she was working but not there right then. We said we would stop back by. As we were walking down the walkway she came running up behind us and grabbed our little ones hand. All of us were laughing and so happy to see her. She walked quite a ways hand in hand with our little dd until she said she had to get back to work.

If you have ever seen the cast of Masquerade in Italy at Epcot you have to know how wonderful they are. They have touched our lives in ways that no one could ever understand or believe. Words cannot tell you all the ways these people have RAKed us. We have truly been blessed. We were told our oldest daughter wouldn't live past the age of three. She is now ten. She has shocked the medical community. We were also told that she would never smile. Her smiles are electric when she sees and hears Masquerade. These people have truly seen past our disabilities into our souls.

Last but not least the people of the DIS boards. WOW!!! Ya'll are truly amazing. The one that stands out in my mind more than any is the wonderful DISer that RAKed us a week at Disney World. We had never met. Only chatted back and forth. Our family was floored when they told us what they wanted to do for us. That trip sometimes feels like only a dream until I look at the pictures. The magic happened before we even got to Disney World. We will never be able to repay them because there is not a price that could be placed on that trip. The memories we created with our family that trip is truly priceless.

WOW!!!

mommie2angels: I wanted to quote everything you said because it is SO beautiful and I just wanted to read it again!!!! But, since that would make my post REALLY long, I thought I would just comment on how wonderful it is to see how RAK affects people!! We have been the recipients of RAK on SO many occasions and we try to be givers too. I LOVE the giving part--it's amazing to see the looks on people's faces!!! What a blessing!

Best to you and your beautiful family!!!

And, please let me take this opportunity to thank all my fellow DISers who have been riding the roller coaster with me with regards to whether or not Josh was going to get to go on this trip. As of last night, everything is still a go!!!! I'll be posting tonight after I tell him!!!

All of you have given me moments of RAK since I joined these boards almost two months ago and I feel SO blessed!!!

Ok..Ok..Ok...ya'll have me offically in tears!! Between Cinderella & Mommie2Angels and joshsmom, I have lost it!

The coolest thing is...THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE WHO GET IT!! People like you and the other posters, the ones that know that sometimes simple things make a difference in others lives. I was having a blast with the Pet Peeves Thread, but THIS OUTWEIGHS it so completely! To think that SO many people have MADE A DIFFERENCE in someones life! That is what it is all about! It goes deeper than the DISNEY MAGIC, it is the kindness magic of mankind!

Thank you for the smiles and tears!!

OMG, I totally got goosebumps reading this story. That is so wonderful!:D

I'm sure the mother and little boy got joy from Erik buying him the Tigger, but it couldn't have compared to the feeling we got from it. I'm crazy sensitive anyway, but this event has remained with me forever. It's amazing how one small act can impact a person; not only the person receiving but the person giving. Hopefully this thread will grow with many, many more acts of kindness!

I was having a grouchy day until I sat down at the computer and came across these posts! I feel much better now. Thanks for sharing. We have also given away fast passes and always look for opportunities to help others.

We took my DD to breakfast with the Princesses in Epcot on her 6th birthday. She wore a tinkerbell costume. Later that morning a nice CM saw her and ran up to her with an open autograph book. He was so excited to meet "Tinkerbelle" and asked her for her autograph! She smiled and took the book. Then she wisphers to me "Mom, I don't know how to spell Tinkerbelle!...I can only spell Emily!"

It made her day!

Every year when we do to WDW we try to arrange a day to spend with my friend and his family who live in Tampa. This year my friend was unemployed and could not afford to pay for the admissions to the parks for his family. We had 1 day left on two PHP passes so since we had UHP with the FTP we gave them the unused PHP passes. It was great to be able to spend time with them and since they only had to pay for 1 child admission they were able to go to the parks with us.

The best RAK was done by my 2 1/2 year old daughter. We were comming back from DTD on the boat to POR. When we got back the captain gave my daughter some souviner plastic colored coins. As we were walking back to our room a woman asked my daughter what she was playing with. My daughter showed her the coins and the woman said that she didn't get any when she took the boat ride. My daughter gave the woman one of her coins and said "we can share". The woman was so in shock that my little angel wanted to share with her. She said it made her trip.

My daughter also gave a child on the bus her glo-sticks after we arrived back at the hotel and told him to have fun. My daughter just amazes me everyday.

Everyone's stories have been great, please keep them comming,
Frank:jester:

Frank, your daughter sounds amazing!

The coolest thing I have ever done was to present two "What Would Walt Do?" pins to a couple of incredibly deserving CMs on our November trip. The first was the amazing Rae, our Tour Guide for Keys to the Kingdom. Talk about someone who "gets it." She made our group of 17 feel like a family in 4 hours. We were crying at the end of the tour! The neatest part was that I told Rae she was famous on the DIS Boards and I see that she has now joined! The second CM was an incredibly charming bus driver named Zinadra. She had a bus load of tired and cranky folks singing "Wheels On The Bus" at the end of a long day. Her laugh and teasing were infectious. Little kids went from tears to giggles in no time.

While I have not experienced an RAK myself, I was really touched by something that happened in Epcot. While three of us adults were on Mission Space, my SIL and her Mom were waiting with my nephew. When we came out, little Harry was playing joyfully in the fountain with 4 other children. Two did not speak English, but these little darlings were acting like the best friends on Earth. Their utter innocence and delight in getting soaked in their clothes attracted a crowd. It was really special.

Whenever I ride the bus and there are folks standing I virtually always give up my seat to someone. I'll let a teenage boy stand up but I'll be derned if I'm going to sit there when an elderly man or woman needs a seat or a mother with a young child. Sometimes you have to talk the people into taking your seat, but the heartfelt gratitude you receive is a nice warming feeling. I think we all need to take some of our Dsiney Magic and bring it home with us as well. RAK are needed out here in the real world even more.

Thanks Manda, I couldn't have asked for a more wounderful child. If i can figure out how to post a picture, I will post one of her at the fountain at EPCOT.

She can't wait to go back and she Playhouse Disney and "The Big Ball" at EPCOT. October won't come soon enough.

Thanks again,
Frank

I visit one of the parks weekly if not more. And I just love to do RAK. I think though I get more excited and blessed by doing so. Anything from giving a family with a child eating cotton candy a hand wipe, giving someone my seat on the monorail, offering directions to someone lost or looking for a particular attraction, or moving/giving up seat at the parade or a show for someone else.

When raining taking off my poncho and giving it to someone.
Or carrying extra ponchos and handing them out when raining.

Sometimes just smiling and speaking to someone seems enough. Some ppl just need someone to smile or speak esp if it's been a long day for them.

And always telling the CM's THANKS for all they do is a definite.

RAk to me have been the CM's that take time to chat a bit, laugh with me over something, speak and smile to me, or when the CM makes sure I get freshly popped popcorn (oh yeah I have to have popcorn each time I visit hehehe).

THANKS CM for all you do. And THANKs to all of those that offer RAK to anyone and all. That is what makes the magic even more magical.

This story made me tear up , but in a good way :goodvibes . I'm so glad you noticed this little boy, you didn't miss the "moment".

Our family of 4 recieved alot of kindness from CM's on our week long trip in Dec. 2002. We were new to pin trading and each had just 4 pins to start with. Within a few days my DS (5 at the time) collection had grown to 8 pins because when he would try to trade the CM would have him keep his original pin sometimes. He noticed a family group of kids (perhaps cousins) and all of the kids had on lanyards full of pins but one boy. My DS felt badly for the boy without pins and walked over and gave him one of his "because he had so many and that boy had none". This really touched me and I thank the CM's for being so generous with my son so that he in turn wanted to "pass it on". Actions speak much more loudly than words.

My hubby and I had several RAKs during our honeymoon back in July1996. There were at least three huge tourist groups from Brazil that we kept on seeing during our 4 day portion of our honeymoon at WDW. We waved to each at MK and the next day at Epcot. At epcot these group members clapped and waved at us while we danced some polka at the German showcase and later on at the Moroccan showcase when I was included in a street show. We did not wear the bride/groom hats or pins. We did not speak the same language, but we waved to each other for three days. The 2nd rak was at Alien Encounter. This guy gave us a Disneyland pen after we were chatting away in the long line because he wanted us to have the momento. We had good places to see the fireworks and for parades because of various people showing us where to stand. We can't wait to do some RAKs when we go next time. Joshsmom, I hope that Josh had a great trip. He's sounds like a great kid. I am a proud aunt of three nephews and two nieces who are blessed with good health. I hope Josh gets stronger quickly, he's got a great mom and great supporters with plenty of prayer power (and pixie dust). I'm new at the boards, please forgive any mistakes. :wave2:
