Don't forget to add bed & table linens. Good sheets in neutral colors will last you a lifetime if properly cared for, stored, and rotated. Also they are expensive. You can always get a "trendy" duvet to match the style you like. If you have a couple sets of white/cream sheets you will always have something that matches. If you are having a shower, add towels in neutral colors (so they can match a future bathroom, unless you already have a house) they are more affordable.
Get good cookware & knifes, if you don't have them---they should last a lifetime. Really think about the food you cook today, and what you may cook in the future and what you need to prepare your dishes. Does your family eat a stew at Christmas? Do you want to keep that tradition, then you may need a dutch oven, etc.
Really think about China. Most people register for it, but never use it. You may instead prefer a fancy everyday set, that is dishwasher safe but can be dressed up.
Let me know if you have any questions. I ran the bridal department at Bloomingdale's for years. I generally told the brides to plan a family gathering at their house, including a menu. Then figure out what you need to make and plate that menu--that is usually a good start on a registry. Since everyone's family is different, I was never a great fan of lists that were pre-made.
