What is the best thing to do with a 3 & 5 yo on Eastern excursions?

I am thinking that we may rent a car in one place, but then we would need to cart around the car seats for the cruise. The excursions that I have looked at are too expensive to "see if the kids would like them." I can just see one of them getting upset...especially my sometimes timid DS, and we would have to leave the group & find a taxis back to the ship.

Is it possible to see things if we just take a couple umbrella strollers & walk around. It looks like the ship may dock close enough for that option, but I would like a little more information. I am thinking that if we go ashore in the morning, we could go back to the ship for lunch & naps.

Are there any interesting things within a 30 minute walk of the dock besides shops? TIA!

Our kids were 4, 7 & 9 when we went on the eastern & loved the cable care ride in St Thomas. It's just a short walk from the pier (remember to "just say no" to the taxi drivers who will insist that it's a waste of time!) and the view from the top is amazing! I've got some pictures HERE . There are some shops, a cafe and a bird show at the top along with a nature walk (wear sneakers if you do this - it's rocky & probably not too good for the little ones). Here's a link to the website for the tram: Paradise Point Tramway . You can take a taxi to the top but the view from the tram is much better.

Thanks! That looks great for them to do. :) I will have to get over the height. LOL! The view does look great!

Isn't there also a butterfly excursion at one of the ports also somewhere on the EAstern? I'm also trying to come up with excursions to do with a 4 yr old DD this December and love the idea about Paradise Point Tramway!
