We aree doing are 2nd trip to DL in July - can't wait.

We used Alamo last time. While it went smoothly, I was wondering if there was a company people though might be better.

More convenient, priced, or just service and selection of vehicle.

We will be renting a larger vehicle - full size or above for 10 days - staying at DL hotel.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated

I checked prices for some of the bigger companies and Enterprise came out way cheaper than the other ones.
Not sure if they are better in service or cars than the others, but price wise, they got them beat.

Look up Fox on the internet. They are local to So. CA and Arizona and their rates are lower than everybody elses. (Just get your map at someone else's counter, because low budget = cheap photocopied map from Fox.)

Well, just compared fox to enterprise and i must say, fox comes no where close to enterprise
I checked for a rental from Jul 14-30
Minivan Enterprise 491.46
Minivan Fox 843.92

Suv Enterprise 612.70
Suv Fox 1006.29

In the quotes Enterprise list sales tax as included and fox lists state tax, which it seems to me are pretty much the same, correct me if i am wrong on this one.

Below is a quote off the fox site

We guarantee the lowest rate among all major competitors. This includes Hertz, Avis, Budget, Alamo, National, Dollar, Thrifty and Enterprise Rent A Car. If you find their rate to be lower than Fox's at any of our locations, we will honor that rate and give you an additional 10% discount. Get the same car rental with great service at the lowest guaranteed rate. If you find a lower rate, please E-mail the information to a customer representative. We will do a quick check and will contact you through e-mail or telephone immediately with our response. You must notify us within 1 hour of finding the lower price.

Now i am thinking if they can match an offer that is about half the price of another one, why don't they lower their rates from the start.

If someone finds out if they really do this, please post it here.

Are there any car rental companies that are on-site at LAX or are they all off-site???

<font color=navy>All of the car rentals are off property, and there are shuttles that will take you to them. I've rented from Budget & Alamo near the airport, and I've rented from Enterprise near my house (I live in the LA area). They have all worked well for me.

With Budget, the van we rented got a flat tire, and I had someone come and change it for me - Budget took care of the cost, and then I had to have the tire patched, and Budget reimbursed me for that (or took the $ from the total). I was pleased with their service.

That's surprising about Fox. In March, their quoted rate for a minivan for a week was $207. When Dollar advertised $199, I contacted Fox and they brought theirs down to $179. I used an onlne 5% coupon, which brought it down to $170.

But give Fox a try with matching it, because like I said, they beat Dollar's price by $20, then I used a coupon.
