What is the BEST place to eat

If you could only pick one family oriented place (with kids) to eat while on a Disney vacation, what would be? What is the best of the best?

Many will say Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary Resort and Cinderella's Royal Table (in the MK Castle.)

We like 'Ohana at the Polynesian Resort and Whispering Canyon Cafe at Wilderness Lodge.

But, if you want a GREAT family EVENING of fun food and hilarious ENTERTAINMENT, then we're talking:

The Hoop De Doo Musical Revue at Ft. Wilderness.

Depends on what you mean by 'best'.

For food and characters, I'd say Crystal Palance or Garden Grove (Swan).

For food and atmosphere, I'd vote for Whispering Canyon (WL).

Nope.

All the resort restaurants are open to everyone.

You can just make an ADR at them the same way that you do for the park restaurants.

I ate Sanaa at the Animal Kingdom Lodge last week and it was really good. It has an indian/african cuisine that worked surprisingly well. I'm not sure how the kids would like it though since I don't have any of my own.

However, the restaurant has a whole wall of windows that is level with the animal area. Once lunchtime comes around, a "zoo worker" cast member places animal food in different crevices of the bushes and trees just outside of the restaurant windows and eventually all of the giraffes, zebra's, etc. come over to eat. You get to watch all the animals while you eat.

We love Chef Mickey's Dinner, Ohana's Best Friends Breakfast with Lilo & Stitch, and Crystal Palace for any meal. -In that order for character meals.

Our most unique experience has been a Chefs de France lunch in which we were able to meet Remy (from Ratatouile) and his wonderful handler. The food was outstanding and with the help of an AP discount, a complete bargain!

For TS without characters we think Trail's End Buffet at Fort Wilderness is delicious. They have fried chicken, ribs, chili, a carving station, yummy vegetables, cornbread and much more! The food is delicious, especially the friend chicken. It is also a real bargain at only $21 for adults and $12 for kids and so we definitely pay OOP. They have some fun, old western style games for the kids on the big front porch. The staff has some of the friendliest and most helpful, you'll find at WDW. (Our waitress even offered to run to the outpost in a downpour and buy a poncho for my 10 year old because he'd lost his! -we wouldn't let her, but she was sincere. During that meal, she periodically would run towels out to the front porch for guests caught in the rain.) If you are looking for a nice night off from the parks, go to Trail's End for Dinner then head over to Chip N Dales Campfire Sing a Long and Movie.

It doesn't matter where you are staying, you can eat at any restaurant. You can take a boat from MK to the Whispering Canyon at Wilderness Lodge. If you've never seen the Wilderness Lodge, it's worth a trip over to eat and look around. My daughter loves to eat at WCC.

For theme, Sci-Fi Dine-in and 50s Primetime in HS are awesome, my favorites.

There are some brilliant eateries in DTD as well. I'm trying out T Rex on our first day in December.

Great question!

I think overall for the best Disney meal that really makes you feel like you are in Disney, it has to be Chef Mickey's for us.

The characters being there, the monorail running through, and all the Mickey themed desserts just wrap you in that Disney magic! To me, it even smells like Disney in there.

It may be cliche, but I just have to go with Chef Mickeys. Just being able to meet with the characters, and it really is some of the best character interaction around, as well as have decent food, just makes it the top of my list. It is a family tradition to go there for breakfast on our last day to say a proper 'see you later!'

Chef Mickey's ~ Contemporary
We've eaten breakfast here at least once a year and it never gets old. It is a classic WDW Family Dining Experience. It has all the main characters and the atmosphere and food is made for children. However, don't expect it to be quiet or fine dining. It is a buffet and make sure to bring your ear plugs! I think it is a "must do" at least once! (IMO) (We are trying Donald's Safari Breakfast at Tusker House for the first time in December. Who knows, I may come back with a "new" favorite ...)

'Ohana ~ Polynesian
We ate here for the first time last year and I have it booked for our upcoming trip. We booked a late dinner and watched Wishes from the beach of the Poly. What a view! Then, we went up to a fabulous dinner that included a coconut race around the restaurant for the kids. It is a fun lively restaurant. It was the perfect balance of great food and fun for the kids. Another "must do" at least once. (IMO) Also, the dessert was to die for!!!!! Yum! Yum!
