Almost all of a photograph's quality is a result of the person and not the equipment. You can give decent photographers a $5 disposable camera and they will take better photos than poor photographers with $5,000 cameras.
As long as your camera has a minimum level of quality, then you'll be able to take outstanding photos. Every single digital camera on the market from all of the "major" brands meets such minimal specifications for photos that you won't enlarge past 8 x 10.
A good camera absolutely CAN'T make anyone take good photos.
Quick story -- a friend and I were on a cruise, he had a bag full of disposable cameras he bought at a gas station, I had my fancy and expensive 35 mm SLR. We purposely tried this experiment. We stood next to each other for many of the photos we took, of people, scenery, etc., over the course of the cruise. We got our film developed, and the photos we took at the same time were identical. The only time they were different was when I played around with movement or something called depth of field. So the bottom line was, my expensive camera and his Sunoco brand disposable cameras took the same quality photos when we stood next to each other to shoot the same subjects.
