What is the benefit of having points from multiple locations?

Does this give you the 11-month reservation ability for both locations. So let's say for example I have 100 pts each of AKL and SSR. Does this give me the ability to book all 200 pts at either location during the 11 month window?

NO...you can only book your "home" resort @ the 11th month and would need to wait till the 7th mo. to add more days.
Im not a fan of multi-homes. Lots of DISers do.
My reasoning is..say I have what you suggested...what if I need 105 pts. for a ressie? Do I borrow from that home?? Do I wait till the 7th mo. and borrow from the other "home" ? Will I have a few extra points left over from my 1st contract..what do I do with them? To me...its a managing nightmare!!

I have "all my eggs in 1 basket", manage 1 contract, make 1 ressie, dont stress over banking/borrowing. Certainly a pleasure at least for me.

Having more than one "Home" allows us to stay at our favorite resorts reserving at the 11th month mark. One time Fav 1 the next time Fav 2. Banking and borrowing allows us to get more bang for our buck. Getting a res a 7 months will become harder as more people join. I read somewhere that the membership has doubled over the past two years.

Using a tracking program like the one from Caskbill makes point management a snap.

Booking at the 11-month window can only be done with points owned at that particular resort. So in your scenario, you could use your 100 AKV points to book at AKV at the 11-month window and your 100 SSR points to book at SSR at the 11-month window. If you needed more than 100 points for the AKV reservation you would need to bank and/or borrow some of your AKV points. Or you could book as many nights as possible with your 100 points at the 11-month window and then try to book the rest of your nights at the 7-month window using SSR points, subject to availability.

What many people do in this situation is alternate resorts. They would bank all of the AKV points and stay there every other year. They would do the same with the SSR points and stay there in the alternate years.

I agree with this, and we do the same thing. Two contracts to give us home resort booking advantage at each place. Then pretty much alternate banking and borrowing.

It really isn't all that complex, even though our two contracts have different UYs. If they had the same Use Year, it would be even easier.

With our 100 points at VWL and BCV, we can use up to 300 points (banking, borrowing and using current points) every three years to make an 11 month reservation. That's how we got our 11 month Thanksgiving reservation at VWL last year.
