I think that the socialists discussing this issue here are missing the point altogether. What liberation can they be referring to? Is this a liberation movement for the Muslim peoples rising up against the tyrannies and dictators that keep them living in filth and completely police state and controlled societies? Even the "progressive" arab states are misogynists, anti-intellectual, and intolerant. There is no such "liberation" movement against the arab dictatorships by alqaeda though overthrowing the House of Saud is part of their stated issue. No, they focus on the US, Israel, Europe, and the Jews.

Someone "liberated" Cuba from something, God knows what, but they're all very proud of the finished product today. I wouldn't pay attention to Socialists' lofty written ideals. In practice they like dictators, and frequently end up with police states and controlled societies; all consider the US enemy #1, and they're perpetually offended over Israel. We find Holocaust deniers in this camp. Have they ever made sense? It's not a question if, say, International A.N.S.W.E.R. understands it - they do, and they're supporting it, the question is why.

Bin Laden defies simple analysis. But he'll partner with infidels when it suits him, and terrorism masterminds these days are likely to be western-living, western-educated. Bin Laden is fixated upon attacking the US; his biggest fans are Muslims, but they're just as likely to be the nonreligious, rioting kind, from Europe to Malaysia, who'd think a hit on the US was a good idea anyway, no matter who did it or why. They seem to care more about spreading Islamic dominance than Islam, the religion, and they'd be in for a big shock if it actually happened. That's one more reason for my POV.

Refusing to take the enemy at their word is patronizing in the extreme. But being patronizing is part and parcel of the liberal, leftist elite approach to politics and the world. (Teejay, I know that you are moderate in your views, and I am not referring to you here personally.)

TY, I'm still moderate, and not exactly a champion of Muslims even if they're peaceful...some are the enemy, and so I don't take their word on anything as the absolute truth, without a lot of supporting evidence.
