What is so special at the Swam/Dolphin?

I never thought I'd stay there because it wasn't a "Disney hotel" and they are kind of ugly to look at, but we stayed there on our last trip and it was great. The hotel was nice; rooms big; beds comfortable; housekeeping excellent; Tubbies cafeteria good. And the best: the price and being able to walk to Epcot, MGM and al of the restaurants at Boardwalk and YC/BC.

We're going on our first ever disney trip in Dec, and staying at POR. I wanted to stay in a Disney hotel our first trip. But we qualify for the reduced rate at Swan/Dolphin (if they're still doing that) because we have teachers and government workers both in our group. But after looking at the hotels, we decided to pay more for POR. Our group really likes that theming. The location of Swan/dolphin does seem great though.
