What is scarier, Splash Mountain or Big Thunder Mountain?

I am a ride chicken but finally went on Splash Mountain (a few times actually). I liked everything, but I still hate the drop at the end.

Is Big Thunder Mountain even more scary than Splash Mountain? I really have the urge to try it this time. I have never been on a real rollercoaster before.

TIA!

Noooo! Big Thunder Mountain is not scary at all! There are no real drops! My kids have been riding it since they were really little and it's their fave! There is nothing to be scared of at all....have fun!

I guess if I had to say one over the other it would be SPLASH. It has a big drop at the very end-and you get wet throughout.

I love rollercoasters and thrill rides but if you ask my kids they would say definitely Splash Mountain is scarier.

Splash Mountain is scarier than Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, in my opinion. BTMR is faster, no there's no real drops. On a side note, I am a total ride chicken. BTMR is my limit for thrill rides

I don't think BTMRR is scary at all.

There are some "fast" turns and a couple minor, quick drops (very small), literally just a "bump" in the road so to speak; but that's about it.

Try it, if nothing else you'll be able to say you did it once.

First, I must confess that I absolutely love roller coasters, the scarier the better!! So maybe I am not the most qualified to answer this post....:)

That said, There are not (IIRC) big drops in Big Thunder Mountain and, as roller coasters go, it is a mild one. Also, the theming is not as funny as in Splash Mountain. My only advice would be to try it.

Regards,

Luis

P.S. I have just asked my 6-year old daughter her opinion about this and she asked to tell you that she thinks this coaster is "cool" and not scary at all... (BTW, she is an adrenaline junkie too, I'm afraid)

I went on BTMRR last week with my 5 yo. She kept waiting for the big drop, it never happened. She is still wondering where it is.

Well, I'm not a ride chicken, but I would say that Splash has my tummy in my throat much more so than BTMRR. BTMRR has more sharp turns has is faster, but the couple of small drops and, of course, the large one are what Splash a little bit scarier.

Have fun!

I don't think either is scary. My mom is petrified of coasters but she loves both these rides.

I am a whimpy rider and am glad to say there is nothing in WDW that I can't ride except for RnR. But that's because corkscrews make me dizzy and then nausea sets in. But in reference to these 2 rides, Splash is scarier just because of the drop, which really isn't that scary (the butterflies in the tummy are fun!)

I am a HUGE ride weenie...but I ride both of these...they are not scary and as mentioned Big Thunder has no real drops...

I think SM is scarier than BTMRR, I just got back yesterday and I went on BTMRR 5 times. :thumbsup2

I didn't think BTM was scary at all and I am not a big rollercoaster fan. (For example, went on RockandRoller once and that was ENOUGH!)

Speaking as someone who gets motion sick, I feel that Big Thunder Mountain is scary and Splash Mountain is not scary. Big Thunder has lots of curves and the track is on an angle (as opposed to being parallel to the ground). I only do Big Thunder because I know my nephews want to, and I find it scary. Afterward, I feel kind of queasy for about 30 minutes.

I'm sure my motion sickness influences my answer on this. (Although there are some rides which make me motion sick but don't scare me at all. Like Dumbo.)

My kids, and I suppose myself, would say Splash is "scarier", with "scary" being a relative term in this case. There is pretty much constant movement with little build up to anything on BTMR, while Splash gradually builds up to the big drop near the end of the ride, and my girls hate that. But Splash is my favorite ride in all of WDW, personally.

I think if you have ridden SM, then you should have no problem with BTMR!
I would say that it is a fun rollercoaster....not scary at all and as previous posters have mentioned, no big drops....
I say do it....you'll be glad you did;)

If you've never ridden a roller-coaster, then Big Thunder is a good one to start with.

As to whether you'll find it scarier than Splash or not, it depends on the person. The only bad thing about Splash is the one huge drop.

Big Thunder doesn't have any big drops like that, so it won't do to your stomach what Splash does.

On the other hand, it has many small drops and turns, it is fast, and it lasts for several minutes. On Splash, the huge drop is over in seconds.

I think all of my grandkids found Big Thunder scarier than Splash because the ride lasts so much longer than the big Splash drop. The 8-year-old still insists that he almost fell out of his car on Big Thunder.

if any of these could be considered scary i guess it would be splash because of the big drop
