What is Rare?

I am still so new to VMK that I don't totally understand what constitutes as rare and what doesn't. I understand stuff from the parks is a little harder to get, but it seems like most people already have it anyway .. probably because it has been available for so long.

I understand too that rare is "in the eye of the beholder", as most things not for purchase within the last 3 months are rare to me.

I picked up some stuff while I was at Disneyland and have some other cards as well and wondered if some people might take the time to rate the items in terms of tradability with some stars ... one star meaning everyone has it and four being rare. Just to give me a general idea. Thanks so much :flower3:

At least, that's what I think. I think I know someone who can give a better appraisal. I'm surprised he hasn't posted yet ;)

To be honest I think you will find everything on your list will rate at about 1 star. The park stuff gets flooded into VMK.

ETA: well you should trade with Cardinal I guess LOL.

Many rare items were originally released from the beta period to the first Christmas. Most quest items are not rare, but quests that were discontinued quite a while ago usually go for quite a bit. One of the key things to remember when you are trying to figure out if it is rare or not is to discover when it was released, if it is still out or has been re-released since. Like the space suit, when it was released the day beta ended, not too many people seemed to have the credits yet to buy it, so it was pretty valuable before it was released again. Another part is since it was the first costume, not many people bought it at the time because we didn't know it would go away. If you can get into the habit of making a mental note on how often you see different items, it will help you figure out the value greatly.

Quest items are usually only "rare" the first week or so they are out, sometimes less. They used to be somewhat valuable for quite some time, though.

Aengus holds his items to a higher standard than I :lmao:

You have asked a great question, I see many players in game saying " I want rare" or I have "rare " to trade. Problem is so many of the "beta" items have been re-released so in MY opinion are not beta any more. ( others may have their own opinions respectfully not looking for a word battle just giving my opinion )
as for the word "rare" well thats another can of worms....
.Everyone values things differently. what is "rare" to one player may not be "rare" to another. For those who cannot or have not ever been to the parks to do the quests in past or future , then they may consider for them a quest item being very rare . Where those of us players who get to the parks to do the quests may consider them fairly common items. Same with those things we buy in vmk, if the player does not have alot of credits ( for one reason or another ) then something that comes out for a short time and then is taken off sale option . those things could be rare to them, but for those players that play alot of vmk, save the credits earned and purchase what ever they want when they want , again those items would be fairly common.

When some one asks me about a "fair " trade with items I just usually tell them it really up to between the traders, my opinion would/ could be very different on "value" of items between players .
Everyone values items different , do some research on when items were released and original cost and as long as you are both happy then so be it. or if you really want something how much ( set a limit) on what you are willing to trade for it.

Maybe if players would not emphasize the need for "rare" , or the trading of " rare" then there would not be so much effort in stealing items or as many scams trying to get the most sought after items in game .

It is just a virtual game...things are not for real and Have absolutely no value in real life......just have fun with the game, have fun with the trading , and dont stress yourself out on the "rare" part because thats constantly changing day by day

I would consider myself a fairly active trader. I have to say that THE number 1 answer that turns me away from even bothering with a trade is when I ask what someone is interested in and they reply, "rare."

That is possibly THE most ambiguous answer anyone could give and it tells me they have no idea what they really want.

Rare is different to everyone.

Ex: To me, purple monster doors are rare. I have been looking for a set for a while now. To someone who has played since they were released and had easy access to Disneyland, that item is probably not rare at all.

Stitch hats are sometimes referred to as rare, but I would be willing to be that there are more stitch hats in the game than MANY other items that would could list.

I think people use "rare" as a catch all for, "I want good stuff." Since everything in the game is fake (no, really, it is!), "good" is a matter of what someone likes.

As for your specific list, I dont think I would classify any of it as rare, but you do have some items that people will trade nicely for. As with everything, though, it's if you find the right person. :)

Hope that helps some....

Dreams, as we both love purple, I just wanted to let you know (I was here when they were released), you are right purple are the rarest of the three colors. Their rarity is because they were only given out in VMK by staff in a few host games and one "maze event". It is the gold doors that came from Disneyland, and actually are more plentiful. (The pink were by an "outside VMK" game and flooded VMK.)
