What Is Pop Warner?

What is Pop Warner? And when is it usually?

We are planning a November 29 - December 6, 2008 trip, will this be a problem?

I have been during this time before and had great luck with park crowds and prices, and I was hoping to have the same luck again.....

I don't know when it is but what it is a children's football nationwide league. It gets NUTS when they are there. Someone should be able to give you the dates.

The Pop Warner 2007 National Cheer & Dance Championships will be there 12/3 - 12/7 or 12/8.

Before anyone posts about how horrible it is at this time, with all those kids running amuck.....let me say that I've been there, at the same time several times. One time I was actually at AllStar Music with a bunch of the girls. They were not a big issue. Yes, the food courts got a bit crowded and crazed when they appeared, but if you eat earlier you will have no issues.
They can get a bit rowdy on the buses, but that is going to happen whenever you put more than 3 or 4 girls together!!!
I found that for the most part, the parks weren't really impacted, especially during the daytime hours. The kids are in competitions then. But, they do come out at night. And they can be a bit rambunctious. They don't seem to have a lot of adult supervision in the parks, so they run about, sometimes bumping into people.
But, all in all, it isn't a 'deal breaker' for me. In fact, I'm heading down again in early Dec....two days before they all leave. No, I won't be at the same resort they will be at, so my thoughts could be colored by that. I just didn't have any bad dealings with them the past few years. Or, maybe I just got lucky.

Yes, Moosey is correct for the cheer & dance (thinking it's actually like the 10th...it's usually the 2nd week of December). Our squads placed 2nd & 7th last year....hoping for a trio this year, with our newest squad!

Keep in mind that there is also another Pop Warner week for Football championships....separate from cheer/dance.

My DH and I have been there during this week in 2005. We have no children, just us two big kids and we had no idea when we had picked that week that there was anything special going on. We did not find the crowd of younger kids to be a bother to us at all. Okay, maybe hearing the same cheer over and over on a long bus ride wasn't the most fun I had during the trip but it wasn't the worst thing either. For the most part, I found the high spirit/energy levels to be kind of fun and the parks were not affected during the day. Parks and buses were more crowded at night but it wasn't enough that I'd avoid being at WDW during that week.

if we are there the week of the cheer/dance comps that may not be all that bad.......as i used to be a competition cheerleader myself

But I am not familiar with pop warner? I usually competed with the UCA or NCA circuits....

we may just stay at a moderate resort instead of a value if that is the case

i may even have to pull hubby to a competition one day

he would LOVE that

we were at the ALL Star Sports one year during the pop warner cheerleading championship (i think it was high school kids)...
the kids were adorable and it was a lot of fun watching them practice during their spare time at the resort....

Please keep in mind that there are 2 competitions...one for football and one for cheer/dance.

Pop Warner is a National League that promotes children (not in High School K-8) in sportsmanship and education.

We are in NJ, we have a competition (qualifiers) 10-13. From here, if we place, we move on to States. If you place at States, you move on to Regionals (all within the state of NJ...confusing, I know), and if you're fantastic enough to place at Regionals, you go to Disney for National Competition. Our girls were thrilled last year. Our town got special signs made indicating that we placed where we did and it's at the all entrances to the town....it's good for the kids. I know they can be bratty...I've got one, but you hope that parents and coaches alike, will keep the kids in check.

We've been there before during Pop Warner and I'm going again this year. It's definitely NOT an issue.

We were there last year for the entire time of Pop Warner and there was no problems with additional crowds, etc that we experienced. Remember that many of those who are there for Pop Warner are at World of Sports competing

I have heard that the home resorts, All Stars, etc. can get a bit loud, especially in the food courts.

I believe they are at all the Values and POFQ. I know Dec '05 they were at POFQ and Dec '06 they were at POP when we were there. We arrived on like their last two days. The buses at night and the food courts were horrible, but the parks during the day were fine. We couldn't even tell they were in the parks during the day, but at night run the other direction if you see them. Loud, obnoxious, rude, totally self centered, running into people, breaking out into loud cheers unexpectedly, cutting lines, screaming on the buses late at night, and pushing everyone out of their way as soon as the bus stopped and the doors opened. The only positive thing I can say about them is that they make the Brazillian tour groups look good.

Regionals are traditionally held the weekend following Thanksgiving, with the Championships at WDW held starting c. a week after the regionals.

So, for 2008, this should put Pop Warner at WDW during the week of Dec. 6th-13th.

Pop Warner will be there from December 2 - 7th this year. I know because I'm hoping my team will qualify. The Regional competition is Thanksgiving weekend and the top two teams from each division will move onto Nationals!

Would I be mad to stay at Pop Nov 30 - Dec 3 before we move on to POFQ? Just in the process of juggling the hol. round a bit and the Pop prices look tempting!
How bad do you think it would be on the day the Pop Warner kids check in??

We always take our vacation 2nd week in December to avoid this. We get there on the day they all leave.
