What is one week?

Is one week considered check in on Sunday and out on Sunday? 7 nights? Seems like a stupid question, but I am new to the DVC rental thing.

Also, does a weeks rental have to start on any particular day? We are thinking if we come in late on a Friday, it may make more financial sense to stay someplace else Friday and Saturday night, then start our rental on Sunday.

One week means 7 nights (and thus arrive Sun, leave Sun). When reserving a week you can arrive any day of week, likewise if reserving less (or more) than a week.

A "week" is 7 consecutive nights, no matter which day of the week those days begin.
When you say that you'd come down Friday and stay somewhere else until Sunday, does that mean you would rent just for the next 5 nights and leave the following Friday? If that's the case, your rental cost should be less, since the Sun.-Thurs. points are less/night vs. the points required for Fri. & Sat. nights.
If you're saying that all together you'd stay both Friday & Saturday somewhere else and then begin your week's rental, the points (cost) would be exactly the same for the week's rental as a week starting on a Friday (as long as the DVC "season" remains the same).

Right now I am still trying to figure out the exact plans, but I am thinking that we would stay onsite at the cheapest 5 person room available, then start doing DVC Sunday-Sunday. I have kind of been thrown for a loop as our TA does not think that they will extend free dining any longer. With 5 people and 4 being considered Disney adults free dining was the way to go for us.

My thought process is to do the split stay, do UT tickets and do the DP once we start our DVC rental. Just pay OOP for meals for the first Saturday as we won't be getting in until late Friday anyhow.

The points aren't any cheaper by "the week." They simply added up the total of 7 consecutive nights for convenience when planning. If you change seasons during your stay, the totals for the week do not apply, DVC is always booked based on the nightly amount of points.

Yep I know that, thanks! With a family of 5 that's the cheapest discount for us. But since its looking like FD won't be extended, then a 2-bedroom DVC rental with DP and UT tickets looks like the way to go. Well, technically 2 value rooms would be the cheapest, but we aren't interested in the value resorts.
