What is offered at MNSSHP??

Just wondering if we should consider taking our kids to WDW the first week of October to attend MNSSHP... They love Halloween, so I am thinking of switching from a 1st-week-of-November trip (NJ teachers' convention week) to early October. I'm concerned about their missing more time from school, but if this is really a not-to-be-missed event, I'd reconsider.

If your kids love Halloween, then they will love MNSSHP. The characters are all dressed up in non-scary costumes, and many of the guests (kids and adults) dress up as well. The park is decorated, and really looks nice.

IMO, it's worth it just to see the decorations and the costumes.

It really is for kids of all ages. I wouldn't hesitate to take the children. I attended in 2000 and the little ones were having a blast.

We took our little boy in 2001 when he was just a year and a half and it was great. We plan on doing it again this year and take his little sister too. Its so nice to walk around the park, not too crowded, get your candy and go on rides. We also got a nice souvenier photo of the family. We have been to WDW many times, I even did the college program, and this was by far our favorite memory of any trip!

There is also a special Halloween parade which is only shown during the party. The fireworks display is also different during the Halloween party. The year we went there was also a DJ in Adventureland that played music and we danced with Timone and Rafiki. We enjoyed the party and we didn't even have any kids with us.

Trust me your kids will LOVE the parade...although my son was only able to stay awake long enough to see the headless horseman ride by (which he still talks about).

There is trick or treating, costumes, etc....it's great and I plan on going again this year.

Also if you go don't forget to get your MNSSHP pins (1 per person). You can ONLY get them at the halloween party.

Oh, quick tip

If you want them to see the firworks/parade (or special late night event like MNSSHP) DON'T get up at 7am...hit animal kingdom..Hop to Epcot for a "quick" Mission Space ride and meal...the Hop to MGM for another "quick" RnR ride....Then Hop to MK and expect them to be able to hold their eyes open for the fireworks/parade. My son just barely made it long enough to see the headless horseman ride by ...This year the night of MNSSHP we are going to lounge around the motel all day, take a nap and get there about 5:30pm.....

if you are already in the park then you get to stay and ride during the hour they are closed getting ready for the party!!

How do I get info for the Party? Don't you have to buy extra tickets? If you stay on sight does that give you free admission to the party? Also when is a good time to go and when to busy

Yep, you have to have seperate tickets (I think they were around 25-35$ each). You can order them off of the disney site although I don't think they are available yet because they haven't set the dates yet and you have to have tickets for specific dates.

Last year we went on a Thursday and it was more crowded than I expected. This year we are going on a Tuesday. I was talking with others who went on Tuesday last time and they said the park was nearly empty and they were able to walk right on to any ride they wanted. I suspect this is becuase almost all the people start their vacation by arriving on Sunday or Monday and hit the MK park heavy on Monday. Then on Tuesday they do other parks, then towards the end of the week attendance picks pack up at MK for the weekend crowds.

I have to put in my vote for YES! I loved MNSSHP - it was a BLAST! MK is not my favorite park but I was skipping through the park during the party! My only regret was not getting to go twice!

By the way, October is a good time of year to go, IMHO.

We (myself, wife, and 3 kids) did MNSSHP on our last trip in October 2003. We had an awesome time. Just like everyone else had said, kids and adults alike are dressed up in costume. Also, there are specific locations where the candy (bite-size) is given out. Just stand in line--the lines go fairly quick. Also don't worry about not getting enough candy, by night's end, they are putting handfuls of candy into your bags. Also the most memorable event, was we were sitting right in front facing the the Castle on the street when the Headless Horseman rode on by. That was very cool.

Most importantly, there are a few picture stations throughout MK where they will take your picture in front of a Disney Halloween background and will send it to you in the mail for FREE ! That's right f-r-e-e ! We went to a few different locations and got our pictures taken in front of different backgrounds. The pics arrived a few weeks later, and they came out great.

I would definitely recommend MNSSHP !

... for all the information!! Sounds like MNSSHP has quite a few fans!! We're still trying to decide between Oct. and Nov. -- it's tough because my kids would only miss 1 day from school if we went in Nov., but 3 if we went in Oct... MNSSHP seems like it's worth it, though!!

I heard there was a time in Oct to avoid because of some golf tornament. I would be visiting other parks and like my sept days when its all walk on.
